There were numerous issues identified on the way home and several more identified over the next few days. Some were cosmetic, where trimmings had been damaged in the workshop. But the most concerning were mechanical, exhaust… not refitted correctly, earth strap not secured, front end not bolted on with factory bolts. The critical one then was a tie rod end that was not secured to the steering arm. Then there was the overheating issue which was related to the shop mixing oil and water in the system, not flushing it correctly and then putting incompatible coolant in. This has resulted in issues with the cabin heating system.
Why the delay in posting a report you might ask, well two recent events saw the car towed to another workshop for repairs. The 1st instance was a waterpump pulley that had come adrift, shredding a fan belt and leaving me stranded on a Friday afternoon.
The 2nd event was the following Thursday night was the more frightening event, that was when the aforementioned tie rod end separated from the steering arm whilst traveling at close to 80kmph! Let that sink in for a moment. This meant that I only had steering in the left hand wheel, while the right was flapping about wildly. By the grace of God, I was able to get the car across to the shoulder of the road without catastrophe. It was then ascertained by workshop I had the car towed to, that a non factory clamping bolt had been used in the previous repair job and that another locking bolt was absent from both left and right sides. The tech reported that it was just a matter of time before the left side failed.
My wife and I are just thankful the problem happened when and where it did, and not when coming over the Kaimai Ranges just a few nights before.
To date I've borne the additional expense of getting issues remedied, as I'm not sure I could trust the workshop to do any further work.
I have reported these experiences to both NZTA and also AA, both whom are represented by this business.
The quoted price seemed reasonable, but when the time without my vehicle and the quality of workmanship are taken into account....mmmm....not so reasonable.
Communication? I lost count of how many times I was told the car would be ready on a certain day, only to arrive and be told 'sorry, tomorrow', and then be let down again the next day. The workshop failed so many promised delivery times, the receptionist eventually refused to talk to me, insisting that I wait to speak to the 'boss'. I'm still awaiting promised return calls from February.
The moniker 'no cowboys' does not apply to this business."
