Liz came and did the quote, it wasn't the cheapest quote I had but it was obvious at the time, the job would be done properly and to a very high standard. (The cheaper quote I had was not doing any of the brick work which most of the house is.) AWL went above and beyond what was asked for by doing an extra path and retaining wall also. The job was done very quickly after I gave the go-ahead and I appreciated the prewash checklist that Liz provided so that I could be prepared and knew what to expect. We also used AWL to do a complete house wash at another property getting it ready for sale, and again, fantastic job. They washed the entire house (with very steep roof pitches) with decks, retaining walls, fences, and cobbled paths all done to a very high standard. Neil says: "I am extremely disappointed with my dealings with AWL Housewash. On Sunday I emailed a request for a quote - on Monday I got a phone call saying that they would call the next day (& I understood - maybe incorrectly- a quote would be left in my maibox) when asked if access was available I gave a security gate code to the rear of section.
When we arrived home late Tuesday the side gate to our house was left open - so much for security.- a sheet was in our mailbox with a quote number and that we would be contacted shortly to give us details of quote.
We didnt hear so rang and got (I think her husband) who advised she rings in evenings so must have missed me but should get a call that night. No call the next day either so rang and left an unhappy message on voice mail expressing frustration at lack of contact.
The real blow and reason for this note was the next morning Liz rang and apologised as she had been too busy to ring and anyway they would not quote on our house as it had tiles on the roof and they would be slippery and unsafe.(until then I didnt even know they would be on roof as no mention made previously) I expressed my disappointment at the time it had taken to convey this information to me - thus probably making it too late to seek another contractor before xmas.
As you can see my real complaint is the time it took to convey they were not able to do the job - a phone call three or four days earlier would have fixed the matter"

Liz replies: "Hi Neil. I would like to take this opportunity to reply to your comments. When I spoke to you initially I did confirm that I would view your property for you on the Tuesday. It was the only day of the year that I don't normally work (my birthday) however since I had 9 quotes that needed doing I forfeited my day off to quote. I never leave a quote in the letter box as that is totally impersonal, I always leave a pre-wash checklist and then call back to discuss .
The next point you mentioned was the security gate. You told me over the phone the code and then went on to try and tell me how to open the gate, but then said "oh you will work it out.: Your 3 ft tall security gate took over 5 minutes to get it to accept the code and truthfully it would have been easier and quicker for me to have jumped over it. I was not aware that it didn't latch properly when I left.and for that I do apologies.
In regards to my delay in getting back to you to discuss your property, the delay was a a day or too longer than normal, at this time of the year I am dealing with new enquirers, contacting people with their quotes and also washing 5 or 6 days a week which can lead to a few delays. I am sure that one of the chemical companies still had time available for the type of work you were looking for.
To answer your question about the reason we turned down the opportunity to wash the property: You have a very large property that is 2 storeys high and at either end you have double apex's above lower roofs . The pitch of the roof and the material it is made of makes it almost impossible to safely stand on when you have 17 ltrs of water flowing under your feet.
No one can successfully wash those 2 storey areas properly without being on the lower roof , therefor your comment as to why would we need to be on the roof appears that you were looking for a budget chemical wash where they just high pressure bleach up there and make the house look clean rather than actually do a proper job. I could not have mentioned this when we first spoke because I hadn't seen the house.
I again apologies for your disappiontment and wish you all the best for the Christmas season.

My house hadn't been washed for a number of years and the outside walls were green in places due to years of neglect; it now looks great - the paint is as white now as it was when it went on and the house just feels cleaner and nicer.
If you are looking at getting your house washed then I highly recommend that you use AWL."

Tania says: "Liz and her son did the job. Unfortunately despite what appears so far to be a reasonable job I won't use this business again and can't recommend them for the reasons below.
First the positives: they responded quickly to the request for a quote and completed the job within a week from the first contact. Visually the decks and house are clean and it appears to be a thorough job. There was a small loss of paint and plants,furniture and windows surrounding the deck were left with a yellow dust covering which we needed to hose down. I can't comment on the deck and roof treatment yet as it takes time to work.
The negatives all centre around professionalism: they arrived at 9.50 after saying they would be there between 9 & 9.30 and came directly through to our backyard (without knocking on the front door) with an unrestrained dog and smoking. Throughout the day there was a lot of arguing and an unacceptable amount of foul language from the son. This may not have impacted on the quality of the job but made it unpleasant to be around and I felt this was very unprofessional. When I said there was to be no smoking nor dogs on the property they did rectify it but not without pointing out that they'd never had a complaint before and that they would have mentioned they had a dog when they booked which was certainly not the case as I would never have agreed to an unrestrained dog on the property.
Finally when discussing the quote they commented on a competing business and suggested their nocowboys score was around the 30% mark. On checking later I discovered the business mentioned has a perfectly good score. Again I think this was not particularly professional.
In terms of pricing it was priced as a whole day job and I was told the roof treatment would effectively be complimentary. They appeared to work hard during the day and the job took 6 1/2 hours (10-4.30). Having checked other quotes it wasn't the cheapest and not discounted as suggested but probably reasonably fair. I did however expect a higher level of professionalism for the price I was paying."

Acknowledgement first that we did arrive slightly late and unfortuntely did not have an opportunity to explain the reason that was beyond our control due to your mmediate reaction to Honey (dog) and the fact that Chris was smoking a cigarette. Both the dog and cigarette were rectified instantly. It really is a shame that you do not recall my mentioning her coming to work with us as all dog lovers know we will never knowingly cause her to sit in a car for nearly 7 hours when she could have been at home with other family members. Putting that aside. Your email to me the same night stated "We have had a look around the property and are happy with the clean and it appears to be very thorough. Obviously we won’t know the success of the roof treatment for a few weeks/months yet but look forward to seeing it." In regards to other comments you placed here I sincreley believe that they are rather harsh so have posted your photo's to our facebook page so you can recall the condition of the deck before and after. My information was correct up until a few days prior however it appears that they called for a review on the really old low ratings and without updated email addresses for those ratings this site had no choice but to take them down if they couldnt be re confirmed. When I suggest that you may like to review other companies performances it is to ensure that you have all the information needed to make a decision, not to ru down another company.This information can be verified by nocowboys. Liz replies: "Dear Rose thank you for your rating. I must say I am somewhat confussed though and feel I need to reply. We scheduled a 12 hour job to prep for painting your very large old villa that was in desperte need to some tlc. The work required in fact took 16 hours but we didn't charge any more than originally quoted. Not only did we wash the house,we restored your decks, emptied your gutters, washed an extra deck no charge, plus all your pavers that were not in the origianl quote. We used citrus for all of the work except for brushing a small ammount of bleach on the badly stained gutters and a totally oxidised section of paint on a few lower boards. When you asked us about it and told us for the first time that you wanted no chemical at all we complied and in fact on day two I spent a large ammount of time hand rubbing those areas with white vinegar that you left with a note asking me to try that for you. Not once did you say you were not happy with our work. I know that budget was important to you however we did everything booked plus more to a high standard of work. We went out of our way to ensure you recieved a quality result and gave you a complimentary roof treatment in addition to all the extra work we did for you. I appreciate that other people have caused you problems in the past doing subtandard work and over charging, however never in all the time we have been washing houses have we ever left a customer unhappy. In regards to pressure, our machines are set at 1000 psi and loose 200 with our hose length. This equates to a soft wash safe for all surfaces. All windows were hand brushed as promised to ensure minimum water pressure on very old badly cared for windows. I hope this answers your concerns. Thank you for your rating. My apoligies for the delay in getting back to spray your roof complimentary for lichen & Algea. As you are aware having been there the day we washed your property, you opted for us not to spray that day as rain was scheduled withing 12 hours and could have wasted your $300 saving if we had sprayed it when we were there. You agreed that we would come back at our expense and complete that free service at a time that would best suite the service and our schedule. Up until the end of December the weather was not guaranteed to stay dry enough on days when were able to detour to your area. As such after returning from our Christmas break this week your roof was treated on the first day we were available and could travel to complete a free service. I do apologies for the delay however over the last three weeks it would have made no diference when we treated it as in fact there has been no rain to start removing the dead lichen and algea.
In regards to patchy communication my many responces to your emails have always stated that we would endevour to treat your roof at a certain time but have never stated a definate date due to weather and other worked book.
Again I apologies for any inconvenience it may have caused you for the short wait you had. You will be happy to know that we have now caught up with the 7 clients who were in the same situation as you." |
