My concerns are:
(1)in June 25th 5Star recommend; at a fee; that there was a requirement for a CCTV inspection of the 30mm water line.
This is an intentional deception ….. as a CCTV a camera cannot access a 30mm line
(2) clean up: repeatedly shoddy and incomplete …. Ultimately I had to complete the clean up myself
(3)The 5Star thrust… smashed through the 100mm common (6 households) septic line causing costs, inconvenience and health issues to all 6 households
5Star promises to cover all costs have not been kept, there have been no reply from 5Star to our emails for months at a time
They blame “tree roots” and “old pipes” for their incompetence BEWARE of 5Star !!

Dishonesty has never been a trait of ours, hence why our business has now been going for a successful 9 years in Auckland. When we quote to install new 25mm water lines Health and Safety requires that all underground services be inspected prior to drilling. Mapping Services are included in all our quotes ie; private line inspections for gas, electrical, storm water, sewer incl Council services. This is not intended for any type of deception. Camera inspections are done on stormwater and sewer lines that are 100mm in diameter or greater, why it can not be done on lines smaller than 100mm. Cameras can not test water lines due to its size. X-rays are done on fibre, gas and electrical services. 30mm water lines are mostly found on commercial sites in Auckland and not in residential areas. Water lines can be traced by pushing a copper trace wire into the pipe from the one end to the other end. This is usually only done when a client does not know where their water pipe enters the building. Our Terms of Trade states clearly “ If you are unhappy with the work we provide, or have any problems or comments, please let us know immediately” Communication is the best, there are so many different forms that we can use to relay messages with today. The telephone works very well. “We will do our best to fix any problems right away.” We keep to our promise and this is what makes our small family business a great team! When we do underground work and damages occur it is never our intention to do this. Unfortunately the drill did damage the sewer line of the one unit and damages were not visible until there was a sewer/drain blockage. However, we were able to tend to this as soon as we were made aware of it, at no extra cost or inconvenience to the client. It is so sad to see such a negative rating, but everyone has a right to their own opinions. 63%"Needed a leak investigated, and Water Leaks was available to seek it out the next day.
Michael was very helpful, identifying not only where the leak must be, but also pointing out a disconnected waste pipe that was discharging waste water under the house!
Michael said 5 Star Plumbing could come the next day, and he offered to ask the plumber to reconnect the waste pipe in the same visit.the
The plumber was not able to come until a week after Michael's leak detection visit.
In the mean time… I needed the laundry and temporarily gaffered the diconnected laundry waste pipe.
A week later the mains leak was fixed, but as far as I can tell the waste pipe under the house was not touched.
I've emailed and called several times to find out, for sure as I am post-surgery and cannot get under the house myself at the moment. No response by email and no call back after raising the question on the phone.

Mike re-piped some incorrect piping of the water supply to both the main house and the minor unit, to correct what our tenant in the minor unit had illegally done some years earlier when he connected his laundry, toilet and outside tap to the meter of the main house. The main house has therefore been paying for a lot of his water. 38%"Michael came onsite to detect the water leak. Before Michael came we had one leak under a lemon tree. That was fixed. Because the water meter still increasing highly after the first leak fixed, so Michael was here to detect if any more leaks. As a result he said he found 2 under our drive way and gave us a quote about $5000 to change a new pipe. Because it is a big project to us with that amount of money in quote we found another plumber to double check the leak from another company. It turned… out the second leak is just close to the first leak under lemon tree. 10cm away but Michael didn’t find. So we fixed that leak. And all fine now. So there is not any leak under drive at all. I emailed back 2 weeks ago to 5 star about this result. Till now no one replied, then That’s where the rate came. 55%"At first we were please with the service that 5 Star Plumbing gave, they came quickly to examine a potential water leak (within two hours of being contacted). Michael came and told us very quickly where he found the leak to be and that it was very loud 56db and that was it. Upon being asked if there was a second leak elsewhere he said no, and advised directional drilling the length of the drive to rectify. The total length of time was less than fifteen minutes. There was no physical probe used,… only auditory. Subsequent to being informed of the cost of this, we sought a second opinion. The second opinion dug where Michael said the leak would be and not only was there no leak near that area, there was not a pipe. The pipe being within a reasonable margin of error (approx 1m) away but there was no leak on that section of pipe. A leak was found approximately 25m away. 40%"Have had 3 jobs done by 5 star. First was a bath tap re positioning which was done well. Second was a pressure fix that ended up causing a leak which they needed to be called back for, though that was done free. Third was a kitchen fit out which initially looked good but ended up failing within a year.
Started off reasonably well but I won't use them again. Secretary is sometime difficult to work with. Michael did all our work.

Some products from the latter suppliers are imported and do not hold the water mark logo therefore fails shortly after use or installation simply because it is not made for NZ Standards/uses. Our Terms of Trade clearly states that when you supply imported products we do not guarantee anything for that matter. THe invoice however was higher than i expected (1.25 hours charged when he was there for about 45 mins. I expected 1 hour) and when challenged I was told I'd already received a "discount" of $30 travel charge that I wasn't initially informed of. Also $15 + GST for about half a metre of standard polybutelene pipe!! what the!
Shame about the invoice because the… plumber/plumbing was good but i won't use again.

0%"I would HIGHLY recommend NOT using this business. Today we paid $600 to another plumber to redo a job done by 5 Star. The new plumber just shook his head at what 5 Star had done. There were so many mistakes there would not be room to list them. The funniest one (if in fact one can even laugh about it) was piping hot water into the toilet cistern and the deadliest one was changing the shower setting from cold to hot and the hot to cold (this wasn't even supposed to have been touched and burnt… the first person into the shower after 5 Star had been). The son who did the job neither had the tools or parts, so there were 4 trips getting what was required. One part was charged out to us MORE than DOUBLE the Mitre 10 retail price. We were charged $1300. The account was to be paid the same day we received it and while we were trying to negotiate about the problems we were threatened the account was incurring 1% charges on a daily basis. They never returned to fix or sort any of our issues and we stupidly paid the bill. They did shoddy work. The son was more interested in his phone than the job and we were over charged on time AND even for a "call out" that NEVER happened. On the initial check Michael was by far more interested in talking of his personal life than the job which got little more than a quick cursory look. If you value your money and your job DO NOT use this company."Michael responded:"We always recommend to our clients to NOT use imported products. These products constantly give problems and parts are not readily available like locally manufactured items. How is it possible to charge a product out double the $'s when our system have set prices sourced from our suppliers, can not change it on the system. With regards to the tools. Once again, locally manufactured products are so easy to use when you have locally manufactured tools that suit. Imported products (depending where its from) are of a different design and use different tools. This means we do not carry imported tools. We only use the best tools for our jobs. Most clients prefer using local products. Legally hot water is supposed to be situated on your left, plumbers rule. With the original pipework in place, this was obviously not so when plumbed. Simple mistakes are easy to fix, we did fix our mistakes without any disputes. Waters should be tested first before climbing in. This job was done as a charge-up. This means, every time we go back it is charged from the 1st hour + travel + GST. We did not charge the extra trips. We gave over $100 credit/discount. All our invoices are payable on the same day. If a client lets us know that they can not pay it the same day, we are fair and flexible in that regard. Our staff rely on their devices to: take photos of the job, communicate with the office, and load materials. This is an essential part of their day. Michael is VERY passionate about his work AND his personal life. If asked, he will elaborate on his personal life. There was a lot of interest from the client there. 0%"Today I paid another plumber to come and replace a tap that 5 Star Plumbing reoaired three months ago. I've phoned Michael twice now and he a. doesn't get back to me, or b. makes a time and doesn't show up. It was his son who did the initial work and every plumber I've spoken to since has said why did they repair the tap, cheaper and much better long term to get a new one. The other tap repair in the laundry also has them shaking their heads. Even though 5 Star have been back to look at it, it… seems it more than likely needs a 'top assembly' and that's why it's still not turning off properly (remember 5 Star a. did the initial repair, and b. been back to 'repair it' a second time and said I'd just have to turn it off a bit harder than the other tap). $400 out of pocket for 5 Star's work and now I've had to buy a new tap for upstairs and pay $120 for the second plumber. I still have to fix the laundry tap. Unfair... Can't understand why other people have had good work when I got such a raw deal. The basins showed clear signs of manufacturing defects and he immediately reported this to the basin supplier. 38%"I called 5 Star Plumbing to get a toilet unblocked. They did come straight away which was at 8.30am. They unblocked the toilet which was blocked further down the pipe so used a hydro machine. Came across as nice guys (there were 2 there). There was mess to clean up however. I have had the same work done at a previous property, twice this year so I thought I had an idea of the ball park cost to get this done. Got the invoice, $435 to pay to get two men to unblock the loo. Plunger was used first… the second guy joined him with the machine. Maybe turn up with the machiine so one person can do the job and not have to charge for two. Really expensive! I had left a message on phone but no reply. Sent an email and got one back soon after which was pretty unprofessional.

95%"I called 5 Star Plumbing at around 7.30 pm on Wednesday night. Our drain from the kitchen/laundry was blocked and so all that water was flooding out of the sump onto the surrounding soil. Mike asked me if I needed him to come immediately, or in the morning!
How often do you get a Tradey offering to come out the same night! We agreed on 8.00 am next day, and Mike arrived on time. I showed him the location and left him to it. Job done, no hassles, s fair charge made, all totally painless, quick… and very much appreciated.
This is the second time we have used their service. The previous occasion was more messy, blocked toilet drain. Mike tried to clear it with normal processes but no joy. So he returned with his son who works with him. They set up their hydro thing machine, which cut through the tree roots without needing to dig up the whole drain. About a year ago, no problems since then either. I have a major leak in my house some where,probably costing me fortunes (possibly leaky house syndrome) although he couldnt find the fault,his advise was to contact a company that could use technics to trace where the leaks might be.. I did this. just waiting for the outcome!!. Ken also kindly fixed my toilet flush......which was a pain......but all good now. I would recommend this guy to anyone...very helpful .
