    "I have used Action Plumbing exclusively for the last ten years but their latest effort simply beggars belief. I booked them three working days in advance to do a simple job, change over my Methven Sink Mixer with another of the same model. They've done this before, it takes 30 minutes to do. Well, this time not so lucky, the plumber took two and a half hours, most of which was spent tripping round town or sitting in his van in the driveway. Then when the job was finished I try the mixer and what do you know? It's squealing its head off, so I ask the guy about it and he says the water has been off and that it will wear off. Then he presents his invoice, and the times he has show him arriving earlier than he did and finishing 20 minutes later than right then as we stand there looking at one another. I called their office about this and get the run around, so I dismiss the plumber without paying him. Later that day I call Methven Technical about the noise and the guy there says the non-return valve has not been removed, we are on mains pressure and the valve should be removed. He promptly offers to have their authorised plumber come round and do the job properly. They arrived three days later and did the job in 35 minutes. Everything had to come out of course. The whole job done again. The day after this debacle I called Action Plumbing and got nowhere. They simply demanded payment and would not discuss their error. My call was followed by two further calls from them variously threatening debt collectors and to come round and take the tapware away. A month has gone by and now Action Plumbing are threatening legal action. I maintain that the work was not done satisfactorily, that what they did amounted to a complete waste of time and that only the hardware should be paid for. Methven's plumber did the installation. Action Plumbing are unprofessional and unreliable and I cannot stress highly enough just how much consumers should avoid these complete cowboys. Their previous work was nothing more than a pass mark and it now looks like they've gone backwards in a big way."

    "A little bit steep at 1k for a bathroom fit out (excluding fit off) but that's not my main gripe.
    I had booked a plumber to come in the next day which was really great until they didn't turn up until 4 hours after they were due, this delayed my builder and ended up ruining my day waiting around 4 hours so I could let them in. The receptionist lied to me and said their truck broke down which was not true according to the plumber who turned up and told me they messed up the bookings. Once my bathroom was ready to be fitted off which was booked a week in advance I was told on the day they couldn't make it because their plumber rang in sick which also messed around my builder. I didn't know whether to believe that or not so I cancelled the fit off and got another company to finish the job. On a positive note their plumbers do a great quality job.

    "Got a Bosch instantaneous gas hot water system installed by Action. The main contact left between quoting and job getting done and communication was a bit haphazard - I think they were a bit swamped with work, but James who installed the unit did a good job. They did mess up a little bit when cutting a hole in the floor to gain access but this was in a cupboard so not a biggie."

    "Installed gas from external bottle to new gas oven. Workmanship was okay BUT... they burnt a hole in the brand new lino floor laid the previous month and left the ceiling insulation all piled up in a corner. The burnt hole was obviously a gas torch and happened when they were there. They do not return calls so Insurance company is taking them to court to get their costs and my excess back! "

    "first person to check the gas fire was ok and the fire was working inspection cost of $250, the second guy to replace a flew where the chimney once stood was not competitive but he was able to do the job within a week so I agreed $1500. Then there were delays waiting for parts etc. Also he found other work to be done ie needed new regulator, so cost just got added to $390 and this completed without my permission. Then the fire wasn\'t working and needed parts yet it hadn\'t been used since the first check Told him to stop and go away. Another gas guy from Alectra fixed the fire for $125 (will use Alectra next time- excellent). Paid the Action plumbing bill because couldn\'t be bothered arguing the point. Wouldn\'t go near them again and have since heard other not so good reports. Haven\'t spoken to the company regarding this due to to many stresses from the earthquakes, so I\'m sure they have their own opinion."

    "Thank you for your comments. It is sad that you felt you couldn\'t bring this complaint to management to properly resolve. From what I can take from your comments, it would appear that your system needed maintenance carried out so that it could be used again. We have needed to replace flues due to the earthquakes making brick chimneys unsafe. Some of these installations haven\'t been used for quite some time as a result of the regulator sticks don\'t operate properly. I am disappointed you weren\'t informed that it was required and it sounds like Alectra just had to replace a small part to get it going. We have done all the hard yards with Alectra taking all the credit."

    "The first thing this company tells you on the phone is that they\'re going to charge you this per hour, this much for just coming to your house, this much for something else - I found this very off-putting, but as I wanted the job done, I agreed for them to send a man out. He arrived promptly and I had no complaint with the actual tradesman.

    LIke the other people who have commented, I was asked to sign a blank invoice but the tradesman did write the hourly rate in. I asked what I was signing and he said it was what I had been told. Beside the hourly rate it said \"per hour or part thereof..\" so I signed. I didn\'t read further on where it said there was a minimum charge of an hour, nor was I told this on the phone. The job was a simple washer replacement, and took a few minutes. The plumber took longer to write the invoice than to do the work. I was shocked to find I was charged $121 for less than 10 minutes\' work. I told the plumber I wasn\'t happy but I gave him a cheque anyway. He was just an employee, so I rang the company to complain. The owner (I assume) rang me and said this was their policy, according to her records I was told there was a minimum charge. I said I had not been told this and would not have proceeded on that basis. After I said I was going to give them a poor review online,she changed tack and said she would talk the next day to the girl who spoke to me originally and call me back. This didn\'t happen. Clearly, she did not believe me. I was totally underwhelmed by this company, who are only interested in money and not their customers, and would never use them again, nor recommend them."

    "My husband called them from the office on a Thursday morning, for a job of unblocking a waste pipe. he was told the price on the phone per hour and plant hire (aprox NZD 189 if done within an hour) and said his wife would be home. They arrived and I was prompted to sign a blank tax invoice, where no cost of labour written on it (blank space) and agreeing to terms and conditions on the back of the page. When I hesitated and started looking for them, the employee said "are the same terms and conditions your husband was already told on the phone", so I signed without turning the page, assuming there was no need to read them then. He didn't give me a copy of what I have signed. 20' after starting the job, the tool got stuck underneath and he came back saying that we would have to dig, probably a root. Only then he said "these things some times happen" The plumber first called a mate to see if between the two would be able to pull the coil out. We digged ourselves (my husband rent a digger and took the afternoon off to do it) Next morning the plumber came back and I asked him to show me once he knew the cause of the problem. He only showed me the root (once was already cut and out of the pipe). He changed the clay pipe piece for a plastic one and called another mate to put shingle on it. Then we put the soil back ourselves. Next week we got the bill for $ 864.28. We expected to pay less, to our surprise there was GST on top of the per hour cost which was not informed at the time it was quoted to my husband on the phone so we had assumed the price given were inclusive of GST. I then read the terms and conditions on the back of the invoice for the first time, which are in fact in small light gray print covering the entire page, and took me 20' to read them. My husband said he was never told anything about the need of signing terms and conditions before starting the job, neither were read on the phone. So it is clear to me the plumber lied to me to stop me from reading them. We had contacted the owner of the company and complained about the bill size and the procedures described above. He does not acknowledge any wrong doing on their side. We paid most of the bill already, but is still discussion on the GST which we were not told and the fact that while the machine was stuck underground we were charged for the hire time, and specially about the procedures related to the terms and conditions. We find the conduct of this company misleading and we want the public to know about our experience and take any measure to avoid getting into a similar situation. MAKE SURE YOU READ AND DISCUSS THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS before saying YES to any job, no matter what the plumber says to you to minimize the importance of reading them or if as happened to us, said your husband or wife already were told them on the phone. Action Plumbing directo said they wouldn't have charged us for the time spent reading the terms and conditions. However the very terms and conditions says that the "labour charges are calculated from the last destination to the customer's premises to the point of finishing the job" So is likely that if I had sat and read the terms for 20-30' and make questions, we would had paid at the very least NZD 37.50 for this!!."
