"We needed a replacement internal gutter on a former double garage now configured as a workshop and gym plus a modification to a downpipe on the house.
Our regular plumber of 15 years had a staffing shortage and suggested Brockelsby's.
Brockelsby's have been around for a long time and had a good reputation (or so I thought) so we made contact with them.
In short, the job on the downpipe was excellent.
The replacement internal gutter with new head flashing proved beyond the abilities of the two men doing the work.

Upon completion of this job both the roof and the new gutter leaked (as bad as the old gutter).

Several call backs ( 3 or 4) were required to complete the job to a satisfactory standard, transitioning from gutter & roof leaking to roof leaking to no leaks.

Along the way the two men chose to break a piece of our timber with brute force, our timber by the way, and jam it between a truss and the new gutter (why?).

They also used a pile of sealer around a downpipe coupling when this work was not asked for.

A Dux coupling should have been used and again, this tiny job was not even asked to be finished.

We got to the point where legal action seemed to be an option.

Finally our leaks appeared to stop.

Brockelsby's said that we needed a new roof but we would dispute this.

The roof had never leaked until Brockelsby's came to visit.

Much sealant was used to fix the job.

This business appear to be real cowboys and we would not recommend them to replace a tap washer!

The new internal gutter has no fall at all so water just sits on it.

Brockelsby's have stated that this is standard for internal gutters.

I would doubt this and will get a second opinion form the next plumber that I speak to.

"We needed a bathroom basin tap attended to and we ended up with two persons (plumber & apprentice) calling. Charged for apprentice to watch! Company quoted Health & Safety considerations for the apprentice to observe. Wouldn't use them again. Failed to offer options"

"(1) they missed the initial appointment due to too busy which was understandable and made another appointment with us for the next day by 8.30, and the guy showed up at 7.30am which was a little surprise as I was away from home at the time, but I appreciated the effort.
    (2) I told the guys what went wrong to the gas heater (was able to start the fire but it would go off after 5-10 mins). I went home after 15 min and found he had taken the unit apart and was vacuuming the dust. I asked if he had tried to turn on the unit, he answered he did not bother because the unit was so old and needed a "service", I asked how much the service would cost, he answered about $150, then I gave him a go ahead. ---My comment on this is: how can you not bother to turn it on when you know that you can only see the problem after you have done so?

    (3) He cleared some rust with sand paper and accidentally damaged the thermocouple, he claimed that was because the unit was too old, which I could not find any reason to argue about. As a result I now can’t even light up the fire which had made the situation worse.

    (4) The "service" he did to our gas heater was purely vacuuming and sanding off some rust, nothing else.

    (5) He assembled the unit and went out making a call asking for parts, and I found a screw was left behind in the fire chamber, I then asked him to remove it when he came back.

    (6) After he left I found one of the brackets that secure the glass screen was not attached property as I could easily pull it out with my bare figure. So I had to get my screw driver to take the front panel out and reassemble it.

    (7) Before he finished I asked how much the bill would roughly be for the day he said I better call the office lady and asked her because he didn't want to tell me a figure and then she invoices me for another amount (this got me alerted as he told me $150 and that was why I asked him to carry on). --------- I then called the office lady about 1 hour after he left and she said it would roughly be $270-300 as it also included 2 hours of labour of $70 per hour.

    (8) After a careful consideration I called them back saying their service is no longer required and asked her to send me the invoice which I would most likely be disputing. She agreed and we ended the call. She then called me after 5 min saying they have reduced the invoice to just below $200 and I had 7 days to make the payment. The lady also said that I was a difficult customer to deal with (but hey, look at the work you’ve done!) The invoice was emailed to me on the same date and I have paid it today. I paid it just to keep my promise as I agreed to pay $150 (yes it could be including or excluding GST) and this amount was within the acceptable range. BUT I don’t think they deserve the payment due to the quality of the work.

Overall I was very unhappy about the service as first of all they didn’t even try to turn on the gas heater to identify the issue, then the work was done unprofessionally as they left a screw in the fire chamber and didn’t assemble the unit property, and lastly I personally felt that they were trying to rip me off.

"Called Brockelsby's Plumbing & Gasfitting to get a leaky pipe (minute hole) fixed under the bathroom. They sent two guys, both pleasant, and just one man did the work, job finished and both gone within 20mins.
But on seeing the bill (for hundreds!) I requested an itemised copy to see where all the charges came from and felt quite ripped off to see that I was charged 0.75 hours for both men, and that the total cost of the parts came to just $39. When I questioned the time of the labour, I was told that I must be wrong as they have a GPS on all their vans (!) and that both men were full employed the whole time (!) and during another phone call was told that they charge from when leaving the last job. Plus there were charges for a Service Call (another $70), health & safety, sundries etc,

I'm surprised they didn't add on charges for petrol, lunches, holidays...

We are left feeling rather ripped off by Brockelby's.

When we tried to discuss their high prices they weren't willing to discuss or negotiate and instead threatened with debt collection. So I reluctantly paid for daylight robbery and so here I am writing my first ever negative feedback on a company.

I will never return to Brockelsby's and I never recommend them.

A month later we had our whole bathroom re-plumbed (by a different independent plumber, recommended by our builder) and were so impressed with his work and his competitive pricing, it just enforced the feeling that we were fleeced by Brockelsby's.

"I called Brockelsby to arrange a quote for a job on the advice of my builder. Their plumber arrived a few hours late, but was friendly and helpful and knowledgeable.

After asking me for the same info on the job I had provided their office staff, he suggested a course of action using a third party and gave me a verbal quote for that work. This was undertaken, ultimately resulting in being told the same thing I'd relayed to them from my builder in our very first phone call.

A bill then arrived for this third party's work at well over double the quoted price, when questioned I was told that the person who gave me the original quote had no authority to do so and I'd just have to pay it.

After prodding over several weeks about the job I'd originally asked for a quote on, I eventually got a call from yet another third party. Faced with paying yet another callout fee for the same information I'd already paid a builder, Brockelsby's, and then their contracted third party for, I gave up in disgust.

    Would not use again.

"The quote for removing our HWC and replacing with Gas Infinity system was fair, and the job was undertaken quickly. They completed it on time and efficiently, leaving no mess behind. It was a very good job and would happily recommend. We would use them again given the opportunity."
