"I booked in for a warrant of fitness and was given a time slot to attend. When we turned up with the car at the agreed time everything was locked up and the people next door said they'd been closed for a month. All very strange and very annoying."

"My clutch needed replacing (slipping at high revs), so I sourced the correct OEM parts (clutch plate, cover, bearing, crankshaft seal, pin ball lever and pilot bushing) and asked civic automotive to install them. Five hundred dollars in labor and the job was done - or so I thought! After funny noises and a difficult to select 1st gear, I took the car back and they checked it out. The pilot bushing had perished and the crankshaft seal was leaking - huh, didn't I provide these new parts and ask for them to be installed OK, another six hundred dollars and I'm back on the road, but now the gear shifter is all floppy! Upon investigation, they did not reinstall the shifter bushings and dust boot. Couldn't find the parts in the workshop, but they promised to replace them. Six weeks later, many calls and excuses (blamed on Japanese tsunami) I got sick of dealing with them. Another $80 to replace these lost parts. My clutch has not been the same since and has begun to leak oil again. Very bad service, with incompetent mechanics."

"AVOID this company at all costs. My car wouldn't start so the AA towed it to Civic. Once towed, you are stuck, and boy dont they know it !! They charged nearly $1,000 for a starter motor and battery. Look in Trademe, starter motors for less than $200, batteries for around $100. It didnt end there though. 3 weeks later and more starting problems, take the car back and they suggest leave overnite so that they can test it. In the morning they say they've cleaned the throttle housing and the car is even worse - it now needs a new throttle housing ! Apparently these can cost $1,500 new, but they will find a recon for $299. I retrieved the car before they could cause any more problems ! Later is find new throttle housing for $220. These people are a disgrace. AVOID AT ALL COSTS"

"Brought my car in since it was having problems starting up and was told that it would be $100 for testing, picked up car later- $200 on the bill. Told that it 'may' or 'may not' be a certain part, advised that I get another part to replace it, the part was not terribly expensive but I was charged a huge amount to get it put in and gauged correctly. After paying $650 (for the $150 part plus labour and 'sundries') I went to start up my car- it still had problems turning over! This was late December 2009, I have since found another mechanic. Yesterday (23/12/2010) I received a text from these losers saying that I was 'required' to bring my car in for an emissions test. Total BS, have rung NZTA and am putting in a formal complaint. Have had 2 WOFs since dealing with Civic and both have never come up with any emissions problems.

Like everyone else, I cannot believe these people are still in business. I have heard several stories similar to mine, overcharging, incorrect parts sent/installed, etc.

"i brought my car in to have an oil leak fixed, which they identified when i brought it in several months before for a tune-up. they told me that so and so had to be replaced and would be ready on monday. when i checked with them on monday, it was as if they haven't even touched the car, tuesday they received the wrong parts, wednesday it still wasn't ready, thursday they received the wrong parts again, and friday they put in the parts but now the car didn't want to start. the work ended up taking 2 months to get things going and even after that, the engine would still have an oil leak. the best solution ended up having to have a 2nd hand engine put in.

i'm amazed how they can still be open for business

"Had to get a WOF for my car. They told me that I needed new engine mounts - a job which will cost over $700 to pass my WOF.

No way. I took it elsewhere for a second opinion. A CV boot was re-fitted and headlights were adjusted. That was it.

    They are liars!"
