He swindled me and he ****ed my car. i spent over 5k with him. Now im left with more repairs thats going to cost a **** load.
HE CHARGES 460+ for a service which is INSANE. he doesnt even service it. he changes the oil and thats it.

"My husband took our 2010 Golf to Jan for a quote. Having previously used Jan to service his company cars he was cautious but our preferred service company couldn’t see our car for a few weeks. A diagnostic scan was run and he was quoted $3000-$4000 to replace Megatronics (a known fault with this era of Golf). He went and got a second opinion, and was charged $121 to remove stones from the brakes. Diagnostic scan showed no fault code."

"Went in for break pad replacement and a service for my old BMW X1. Thankfully I asked what it's going to cost just before dropping off the keys and was told by Jan it's going to be $2250 - was shocked at that price and phoned my my local garage, they will do it for $723 ... that's $1,527 cheaper, 1/3rd the price. Haven't asked BMW dealer how much they would charge for this, but have a feeling still much cheaper than this place. Can't really recommend anyone to use European Car Specialist, Jan the owner is ripping people off!"

"Yup these guys are rip offs, stay away at all costs. Jan has his son as the head mechanic and they clearly don't get on. Ive spent over 7K there and got my vehicle back with damage done to the grill and underneath where they put it on the hoist. They did the cam belt and there is masses of silicon all around the water pump which it shouldn't have needed. The water was over filled, the main electrics plug by the radiator was just dangling and not sending any information anywhere and they left a squeegee bottle under the bonnet! Quite unbelievable that they can't even get the simple things right."

"Avoid at all costs. I took my late model car to them for various things, brakes included. I complained that they put the wrong brakes on and this caused some bad feeling. A few months later my $45000 car started leaking from the cooling system, not in one place but half a dozen different places, effectively destroying the engine. Experts tell me that this was caused by someone sabotaging the coolant, probably with battery acid.

So unless you want your car ruined, keep away from this highly dubious business"

"I decided to book my XF Jaguar in for a service at European Car Specialists some 6 months ago.

After a diagnostics scan Jan advised me several codes had come up that needed attention. No call was made for the repair quote I just got a bill for over $4000. While the lack of a call prior to proceeding was not all that troubling it was unusual.

Jan also advised me prior to collecting the car he had also discovered a turbo problem, this was to cost $7000 to fix.

I had a sneaky suspicion not all was well so decided to take it to Archibald and Shorter to check. The car did have a minor turbo problem but not to the extent Jan indicated.

Archibald and Shorter only charged $4300 and not only that they subsidised the repair by another $2000 as the part was just out of warranty.

I phoned Jan after to getting it repaired at Archibalds and asked him to explain the massive price difference he claimed that had he found the repair did not require the extent of repairs he had assessed he wouldn't have fitted the part.

I wasn’t going to post this until I discovered another post. Ironically this person also wasn’t going to post there concern until they too read another post that was similar in nature.

Jan perhaps your error was genuine in my case and as you claim you would have charged less had the part not needed replacing once you started to fix it. I will however leave this post and if other posts continue to show the same pattern we will know there is genuine reason for concern.

"Service provided was the worst ever received.
    * They didn't fix the fault with the car
    * They charged us for work they didn't carry out
    * They took the vehicle in to another outfit to have the fault diagnosed and charged us for it.
    * The car went in to limp home mode the day that it was released from their garage.
    * The ignored the complaints made
    DO NOT USE THEM.

"I went with European Car specialist because I have a VW.

First initial contact was good, got car straight in to be looked and got back pretty quick with a quote for the work.

Quote was over priced but I was told it was a brand new genuine part so I was happy to pay the extra.

Job was done quick but hen a friend mentioned theyd be ripped off by this company in the past to a tune of $25,000 for repair work to a BMW and Dodge Ram.

So when I paid for work I asked for the faulty part, which they gave me. When I got back home I still had this niggling feeling about what my friend said so I check the park they had replaced,

The part was covered in dust and definately NOT brand new so I took car back, owner Jan van den Berg blamed one of the boys in the workshop and offered to but in the brand New one but I opted for a discount, which he was reluctant and the funny thing was he said he didnt want to see me back as a customer. Now that makes me Laugh, even with the money I managed to recoup still an expensive lesson in doing some research and finding a mechanic that wont rip you off.

Labour charge is $75 an hour so beware and get a quote before you commit to any work, as my friend made that error.

Hopefully this will be of help to someone and I feel I little better now that I have sat down and done this.
