"This involved a major problem at the Avondale Baptist Church hall where the external end wall of the two story building constructed in 1936, had sunk by 73mm due to rotting bearers and timbers. The floor clearance of 250mm and all covered by a large concrete step that needed to be broken out to gain access. The quote, "How long is a piece of string. The crew arrived on the designated date they were professional and approachable and presented us with a job to be proud of and at a charge up price that was totally acceptable"

"When quoting Mike gave the best impression that he knew what he was doing and I think he does. However from start to finish of our job he seemed to be in a rush to finish.

I can't comment on the precision of other repilers but when Mike quoted on the basis of a 10 mm tolerance to datum I expected that would be within a room not 10 mm above datum and 10 mm below datum in the same room. Consequently even after leveling there were variations well in excess of 10 mm within rooms.

We had builders arrive as Mike was finishing the job to install sliding doors. They were unable to fit the doors because of the variations within the room and so we had to get Mike to return to undertake further leveling. This was I think a function of Mike taking too few measurements as was illustrated by one room being level in two corners and having a 15 mm hump in between.

On a number of occassions we asked Mike about things were told they had been done only to find they hadn't

Subsequent to paying Mike we discovered a further hump in one room. We contacted him requesting he return to correct this. We are still waiting a response.

On pricing Mike was the most expensive quote we got and so I guess we had high expectations of him which at the end we felt where not met. And I would recommend avoiding getting extras outside the quote as the mark up was not small.

Maybe ours was a one off but best strategy would be to have someone who knows what they are doing supervise.

    Toni Field responded:
"We secured David Cameron-Browns job because he was unhappy about the calibre and look of the other contractors that arrived to quote the work. Things were quiet at the time so we discounted his job heavily and then discounted further for him upon his acceptance. David told Mike on numerous occasions that he was happy with the way the work was progressing and he was comfortable with him and our employees working at his home. The job was not rushed but we were made aware that the builder was eager to get started. We completed our scope of works and then the payment to us was short a few thousand dollars and no explanation forthcoming. I contacted David who resent an email we had not received that outlined some concerns he had, with an offer for his builder to rectify and no further funds would be forthcoming to us. Mike immediately called around to see David and made an arrangement to meet Davids engineer and builder on site and have the job inspected and signed off with all 4 present. Th engineer completed his inspection, ok\\\'d that everything had been done properly and to specification. David then had no option but to pay the balance of the account as he had received sign off from the engineer that he had engaged. It is possible with 100 year old houses that even after completing a repile and relevel that the floor can be a bit uneven in a place. Sometimes this can be the result of a bearer or floor joist that needs replacing. It is possible that this is the situation here and David did indeed contact us to come back and rectify. However to rectify it would involve additional costs on the clients part and we were not prepared at this stage to undertake the extra work for him. We notify the client as we go if there are any additional costs and we do not commence them until the client has agreed to them. We price our building work at well below the rates that other qualified builders charge and we usually pass some of our discounts on materials to our clients. At the end of sign off by the engineer David was asked by Mike several times if he was happy with everything now, especially in light of being vindicated by the sign off and David said yes he was happy. He was so satisfied that he paid the money that he had witheld. It was sometime later that he contacted us to come out and have a look at a the uneveness that had appeared in his sons bedroom when he moved the furniture out to do further renovation work. As we knew that to rectify this would mean further costs to the client we decided we did not want to undertake the work. When we completed the job the difference in levels was 4mm over 4 metres, certainly not the variation claimed by David. David was given the opportunity to contact our many satsified clients before engaging our services and it must be noted that we have not had written contact from him since 24th November, 2010. A fair bit of time to fester over a job that was completed on time, to budget and to the clients own engineers specification."

"I cannot commend the work done by Mike and his team highly enough. They turned up when they said they would. Mike organised the permit for me and the design of the foundations.
Their price was competitive and I am extremely happy with the work that was done.
Mikes carpentry skills meant that he was able to do extra work that his competitors couldn\'t.
They cleaned up their mess as they went and I would recommend them to anyone that needs this work done.

"Grace Repiling\'s core work is top-notch and Mike and Toni have been great to deal with. I can\'t say how much I\'ve appreciated their services.

When a simple repiling job spiraled into a full-blown renovation Mike was able to help me determine the best way forward, assist in the more straight-forward repairs, and direct me to skilled tradesmen to complete the reno.

Enlist their services with confidence. Thanks for everything, Mike!"
