"We would like to give feedback on our recent experience with using NZ movers from Auckland to Christchurch, so that hopefully you don’t use them and have the same bad experience we had. We had a big lifestyle block that needed packing up and relocating. Their quote was reasonable, but not hugely different to other companies, their insurance though was very costly, and as our current insurance would cover our move - we didn’t take theirs, which turns out is not helpful at all, as when we brought up all of our concerns with them - we were basically told bad luck, you didn’t insure with us so we can't help you! They have not taken any responsibility for the damages and their communication after the move was terrible.

Firstly, all the guys that worked at both locations were very friendly and helpful enough, but that is where the good experience ended.

On the packing side, we did have some well packaged and labelled boxes, but unfortunately there were too many boxes, that were very badly packed and poorly labelled; for eg - a box labelled linen, when I pulled out a duvet, a glass vase and base came flying out - not wrapped/labelled - just shoved in and amongst the linen, and it was very lucky they didn’t break. Multiple boxes had dirty tools "thrown" in with clean gear, items that were clean, carefully laid out and folded were squashed into boxes with unsuitable items dirtying and lightly damaging them; rat traps were put in with animal feed containers, nicely folded linen and clothes just chucked into boxes. Lots of items were poorly wrapped, including items we had asked for extra care to be taken with as they had value, both sentimental and cost wise. Lots of our bigger items were not wrapped, nor care given - so have some surface damage, for eg our outdoor table and chairs that had just been sanded down and varnished, now have unsightly gauges and scratches on them. Our beds mattresses have come apart (yes they were older, but due to poor handling are now quite damaged). Our (also older) but recently refurbished pool table also has multiple scratches and marks, along with the majority of our furniture actually. Our fridges arrived covered in mould - no instructions were given on them, they were just packed as is. Also the 1 fairly new fridge does not work now after the move, our chest freezer vent was buckled in, handles were broken off cupboards, plastic storage boxes cracked; the list can go on. There were random bundles of little screws/nails etc with no labelling in different boxes. We are still missing the key to our sideboard - which greatly hampered our unpacking, and made life very frustrating. Despite multiple attempts to contact the movers in this regard - no care was given, and after 2 weeks we had to get a locksmith as the key has not surfaced, nor have they replied about this matter.

We then asked if certain things could go to our house and the rest to a storage unit - which they said was fine, but at an extra cost. When you pay extra for that service you would expect that it would be a decent service - but no! There was so much confusion of lots of incorrect things coming to our house instead of storage and vice versa, and again due to poor labelling or things not even labelled or not even on the list (makes me wonder what we are still missing that we haven't realised?!) that made the experience even worse. We even had some things delivered that weren't even ours!!

We look after our contents, and a lot of our stuff is older but well cared for, and most of the damages have not rendered them unusable (despite the fridge etc) but now are very unsightly and hard to claim insurance on or replace (and will take us countless hours to try and patch). This is very disappointing as this was not a cheap move, and to have so much damage done to one's property without a care given or even an apology is very disheartening. I do know for sure though who I will not recommend or use again.

"We selected New Zealand Micers from rhree quotes, to pack and move our house lot from the Kapiti Coast to Arrowtown. The difference in the quotes came down to the trust that Helen demonstrated from the outset. As an example she telephoned us on the uplift day to make contact and to confirm the arrangements...exceptional! We are delighted with their work with superb sevice and care with the load being packed to overseas packing level. Nothing was damaged or broken.
The packing and wrapping team led by Liam and Katia were great professionals who took excellent care of our more fragile items, and our framed art works.

NZ Van Lines did the actual delivery and uplift of the packaging within an hour of our call.

This is a truly professional company that we commend without hesitation.

"This is the worst experience I have in New Zealand. We contacted NZ Mover in Dunedin to move our belongings to Hamilton. They said it take 10 days to 2 weeks. It has been 4 weeks and we have to keep calling them. The first 3 calls they said "We will call you back later after we get some updates" => They never call back. Then, we had to call them again and again. Then the lady finally told us that our boxes will come today - Friday [after 4 weeks]. Nothing arrive, no call, no information while we desperately want our stuff to use. Their contact number does not work after hour or weekend, which mean I will have to wait until next week to see what happen with our boxes. I would rate this business lower than 0 in terms of everything!!!!!"

"Moving from Dunedin to Belgium and was looking for a moving company to ship my personal belongings. I am still waiting for the quote from a survey, which was nearly 2 weeks ago. Even though I contacted Rachael several times by now, they do not give me any updates. They instead blame the slow response on the company on the other end. How is it possible though that other companies were able to give me a quote within 24-48 hours? If they cannot give me a quote in an appropriate time, I do not trust this company with my belongings. Will not recommend using them!"

"Exceptional experience until I received a call from the sales consultant, Matthew, saying that our volume was more than he had estimated. His manager had "pulled him into a meeting" advising him of this and now they needed to "recover the costs." They tried to overcharge me because they would need to send another truck - as if it were my fault they had estimated wrong. Originally sent a 45 volume truck for 44.9 volume worth of stuff. This would have been fine had everything been packed as per the quote but this was not the case and found some boxes were only half full. We also got rid of a corner suite with ottoman and packed several items to take with us that didnt even end up on the truck!!! When I emailed Matthew to let him know I had paid the additional cost (because they couldn't organize delivery until we paid) and I would like this looked into I got no reply and no apology. Also made him aware of boxes only half full. The entire blame was put on us for his mistake. I feel this is a normal scam by this company as have read several reviews stating the same elsewhere. The guys that did the actual hard work and came and packed our things, loaded and unloaded the trucks and the driver did a fantastic job. Also need to mention Kendra, who was left to bear the brunt of it and did a fantastic job getting the remainder of our things delivered. I was going to use this company to move my things from the US but will not use them or their affiliates (The Moving Company and NZ Van Lines) again."

"I booked NZ Movers to move my personal items and furniture from Auckland to Canada in November2017. I mentioned immediately I met with them to quote that I had an antique vase that was very important that it arrived safely. It arrived packed under a lead crystal vase broken in many pieces. I had damaged some to my Auckland home with lunch wrappers, bottles and cigarettes butts left lying over the grounds. The porch light was broken beyond repair with the movers throwing the smashed light bulb in the garden. I only realized it was broken when the sun reflected on the glass. This took 4 months and many emails before they agreed to repair. Once I received my items in Canada there was many items missing, broken and damaged. The beds that I had paid for to be installed were not done with NZ Movers saying the insurance company would refund but they wouldn't. Vero Insurance which I booked through NZ Movers asked for a list of items with a photo of damaged along with a value of each item this i sent through to Vero in March 2018. After the documents were sent to Vero they have ignored my emails and I am still waiting on a payout.

Reflecting back on NZ Movers service I never saw or heard back from anyone from the NZ Movers after payment was made. No one from NZ Movers checked on their packers at any stage to what standard of work they were doing.

One if the main concerns was how much was stolen, how much of my personal items that didn't make it to Canada.

NZ Movers advertise that they have packaging for art work or fragile items etc but they never use them.

There has to be a moving company that will take care of your precious belonging.

    STAY AWAY FROM NZ MOVERS.

"An extremely poor service. Despite contracting them to pack and move personal properties for a house move, there was inadequate packaging and care. As a result, significant damage was inflicted to furniture and various other damages were inflicted to other personal properties moved.

These guys don't deserve your business. Don't bother unless all you are moving are plushies or you personally enjoy visits to dispute tribunals/courts."

"Wouldn't recommend this business. Lost 19 boxes out of 419 in storage for 3 months and didn't receive explanation, apology or acknowledgement of liability. Received payout from own insurers (AMI) but only for market value not replacement cost. Number of items damaged by poor packaging. Company did not follow own procedures. "

"DO NOT USE. NZ MOVERS ADD HIDDEN CHARGES WITHOUT WARNING.

Booked to move a small amount of things from Dunedin to Wellington. Cost over $450. They also charged me another 1.5% on top as a credit card fee, even though I was using EFTPOS. Was told by the Dunedin staff that because I was waiting to move into a new house in Wellington, I could store some stuff after it arrived at a rate of around $20 per week.

When it arrived, the Wellington branch called me to let me know it was there. I told them I'd need to store it, and they said they'd be in touch with billing. Today I got an email that provided around the quoted rate of $20 per week, but added a $50 handling charge - the total cost was nearly doubled by this charge.

I'm picking my stuff up tomorrow and using a storage service where the charges are upfront. I won't ever use NZ Movers again. Adding hidden charges when you're holding someone's possessions is tantamount to bribery. Deeply untrustworthy.

"It would appear that their practice is to quote low and then claim there were additional items.
The contract allows them to do this. I am currently involved in a dispute with them

"We have just used New Zealand Movers to move from Paraparaumu to Cromwell. Their quote was excellent, and it included boxes and packing material and tape, and when the team arrived on move day they very carefully and thoroughtly wrapped all our whiteware, pictures, and fragile furniture (couch, china cabinet etc) - all this was also included in the quote.
The team on move day went above and beyond - even helping to trim a tree so we could get the truck up our drive and save ferrying our treasured things. They cheerfully worked quickly and carefully, communicating constantly with our truck driver (and puzzle whizz if the work of art he created as he loaded our things into the truck was anything to go by).

Our things arrived in Cromwell 4 days later as promised, without a single breakage or any damage to anything.

I would highly recommend NZ Movers - especially Koolio and Phil the movers, Richard the truck driver, and the office team who supported us every step of the way.

"Again they started off well but their communication dropped to poor as soon as we had paid. They were 3 hours late for pick up and then damaged a lot of our stuff, clearly by just being too rough with it. They are reasonably priced but you get what you pay for. In saying that, our problem was with the Wellington staff as the Dunedin staff were brilliant."

"New Zealand Movers (Formerly Allied movers) started off well with good communication and a very reasonable quote.
Unfortunately, they damaged lots of our property.
Our house lot of furniture was loaded into a truck in Christchurch, and unloaded from a different truck in Auckland - so had been unloaded and reloaded somewhere along the trip. The insurance we took only covered us if the entire consignment was lost along the way, and so the company took absolutely no responsibility for the furniture & possessions that their staff wrecked.
