"We got QRS to reroof our place in Lyall Bay, a little tricky because there were asbestos tiles to remove and at the time we couldn't find a single other company who would do the work. So in that respect Mike arriving at the time he did was a godsend. Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that there were some gaping holes in Mike’s management ability, including liaison with Worksafe that went very awry right at the start.

As for the roofing itself, it has been completed to a high standard thanks to Todd who worked really hard on it. However they did leave large roofing nails hanging down off the edges and when we questioned it we were told we'd have to cut them off ourselves (!) which wasn’t in keeping with the rest of the high standard of work.

The problems really arose in the aftermath during the asbestos cleanup. This process was arduous and difficult. Mike swore that the cleanup was thorough and that you could "eat your dinner up there", however when the testers from Capital Environmental came they could see large cobwebs which indicated that it hadn't been cleaned up well, if at all. I paid advances all along the way (Mike was very insistent at all times that money be paid as we went, which is fine, but was quite pushy at times) and so we had no leverage as I had (naively, and in good faith) paid the final invoice. So we waited for Mike to return to complete the cleanup to a standard that would achieve clearance, and waited…and waited. Every week we were assured it would be “tomorrow”, or “Friday”, or “next week” and that went on for roughly 8-9 months before they actually returned to complete the cleanup.

Our overall impression, unfortunately, is that Mike can be very charming and is an excellent talker, but also full of promises he finds difficult to keep.

After waiting for so many months for QRS to complete the work the final insult was that we have had to pay for our clearance test ourselves (supposed to be included in the job) because QRS had such bad credit with Capital Environmental!

    I would not recommend QRS.

"QRS Roofers have supplied and fitted a new roof to our commercial premises in Petone in 2020. We have had the job independently inspected and received a detailed, written report outlining that the job has been completed to a very high standard. The weather since installation has presented numerous tests to the water tightness of the job and I am pleased to say that the roof has passed them all."

"Everything started out well and micheal seemed really nice until toward the end of the job. We naively paid him early and then he rush finished our job and we found work that was not up to standard. It took months of calling him to get it rectified and this only occurred after both my husband and I suffered through verbal abuse from him on the phone. On one occasion he hung up on my husband then rang him back and continued to yell at him. "

"I recommend Mike and his team for a reroofing job. I went to tender with 7 firms and chose Mike as the one who was most responsive and most focused on my specific needs. I checked out two referees who both recommended him. One was a fellow I know who has used Mike for several of his properties. My roof is on an exposed property in Wellington and I need to be confident that my roof is sound. Thanks to Mike my wife and I feel secure. "

"Very pleased with the job Michael and his team have done on my mum's roof. He was a pleasure to deal with and his team got the work done very quickly. They exceeded our expectations by completing the entire reroof within the space of a week. I highly recommend them for a superb job and great communication. Michael was recommended by our friends who had also had their roof replaced. "

"Over the course of the re-roof, the roof has started leaking in several new places. This includes holes cut around roof pipes that weren\'t filled in between site visits (so the water just bucketed in), and the ridge flashing being left off for most of the project, allowing water down through internal walls. I lodged an insurance claim for the water damage from some of the leaks, and had industrial strength fans and a large dehumidifier provided via the insurance company to deal with waterlogged carpets. Some carpet had to be ripped up to dry out the underlay after a major leak in a room that had already been re-roofed when it started leaking.

QRS claim the problems occurred because the old roof was leaking, but these leaks were in areas that had the new roof on. You could stand inside and see the water streaming in, and go outside, and see the gap in the roof where QRS had simply left roofing material off between site visits.

After reading the reviews on No Cowboys I brought in qualified weather tightness surveyors from two different companies to check the workmanship. Both companies provided a similar response, and raised several issues. QRS refused to accept the two independent reports, so I complained to the Roofing Association, who sent an inspector on site for a third report. The third report also found problems that needed to be remedied.

QRS spent about two months arguing against having to fix anything in the Roofing Association report, however ended up coming back on site when I stood my ground (they have received 75% of the payment and the last 25% is to be paid on completion). However, the remedial work QRS did caused further problems, and I\'m now in the situation where the manufacturer won\'t give me a warranty until the issues have been fixed.

I\'ve gone back to QRS to sort those issues so I can get the product warranty, but have instead received abusive and threatening emails.

Mike made the comment that the No Cowboys reviews are false and not from real customers - I have since heard back from another customer on this site, and they are absolutely real, and ended up having to completely replace their roof after only a few years.

If you use this company in future, and you would like to talk with me, please send your contact details to No Cowboys and I\'ll answer any questions you have about working with QRS.

"We used these guys because they were cheap - a week later there was an article about them on Target because they lied about the products they use. They did a terrible job which needed repairs within six months, but they took ages to turn up to look at the problem and refused to accept that there was an issue. AVOID."
