"This has been the smoothest experience I have ever had with a trades company. Fast and clear communication with Dan who answered all my questions and concerns with clear and prompt communication. Dan walked me through our options without pushing for a sale with clear and trustworthy advice (replacement of a valve vs. replacing the cylinder). We had Troy who did the replacement itself and he was fantastic also - thorough and efficient job and took the time to explain how to change the temperature, pressure and stop the water if needed, as well as shared various self checks we could do if something went awry (which I had the confidence it wouldn’t and everything has worked perfectly).

"Highly disappointed. They were very efficient in getting the sale. They upped their original quote by $500, but when I baulked, they dropped it back $360. Then they were very efficient making sure they were paid. Fast invoices. But now, after Rinnai gas has been installed three weeks, it has failed completely. I rang the 0800 number and was assured that someone would contact me quickly, as it was urgent... and after 56 hours and counting, no contact! I'm going to have to get a real plumber in to see what's wrong."

"The brand new Rheem cylinder that was installed started leaking from the element very badly as soon as the water was turned on. Large amount of water spilled everywhere, including the insulation of the cylinder itself. The leaking element was tightened by the installer a couple hours later once they found the tool.
The cylinder continued to leak from somewhere else for a couple of days, but stopped itself later on.

There is no more leaking now but I'm unhappy with the fact that the insulation was properly soaked, and therefore affects the energy efficiency of the cylinder. I paid $5000 for a brand new product, not a faulty product that was fixed, with worse energy efficiency.

The response from Rheem and the Cylinder Guy is that "it will not affect the performance of the cylinder", and they offered nothing for the situation."

""Our re-roofing job had just begun and the roofer asked that I confirm that the vents on the roof were still required. We noted that one of the vents was for the hot water overflow and decided if we could, to upgrade our hot water cylinder before the new roof was put on. I contacted The Cylinder Guy (who turned out to be Craig) on Thursday the 19th Jan. and explained the situation mentioning that we were very short of time as we didn't want the people living upstairs to be without hot water while the new roof was sorted. The following morning, Friday the 20th Jan, Craig had sent me the options available with estimates and we discussed the options over the phone. Monday the 23rd Jan was a public holiday and so installation and replacement was completed on Tuesday the 24th Jan. We were amazed that the best service you could ask for was provided and that the new cylinder was installed with less than 4 hours inconvenience to the tenants upstairs, and without causing any kind of delay to the roofers. I definitely recommend the Cylinder Guy without any hesitation. Craig is efficient, extremely effective and extremely pleasant to work with. Thank you!"

"I know nothing about hot water cylinders. Thankfully, when I called The Cylinder Guy, I didn't have to worry about that at all. Dan talked through what I needed and spent quite some time walking me through the options that were available to me. My case wasn't quite as cut and dried as just replacing a cylinder - I am outfitting a building to cater to a dog groomer. I had been brushed off by plumbers (one still hasn't called me back!) and no-one seemed to care enough to help. Dan was excellent and we came to a conclusion within a day or so. I will be highly recommending The Cylinder Guy to everyone in future - who were not only the best to deal with, but also the cheapest I found. Well done Cylinder Guy."

"Woke up this morning to no hot water as our 28 cylinder had finally gone Kaput. Rang around to find an available tradesman and third time lucky got the lovely people at The Cylinder Guy. From the receptionist to the contact person Dan and to the installer we experienced nothing but professionalism, friendliness and competence. Contacted the firm at approx 7:45am and we were contacted by Dan at 8:00 who was able to give such knowledgeable advice over the phone and talk me through what was possible with possible costs and timeframes included. We were able to make a decision based on our specific requirements and by 8:30am a plan was confirmed. Installer arrived earlier than expected at 10:30am and in the words of my husband "could have done the work blind folded", as he was so impressed by his knowledge and skill. Everything installed, working and tidied up by 1:30pm and HOT showers by 4:30pm. Would highly recommend this company to anyone."

"These guys are great! Recently the old hot water cylinder in my home burst and flooded the basement room. What a hassle! Not a problem to the The Cylinder Guys. I remembered seeing their advertising on television and gave them a call. Spoke with Dan Hellyer, who was a pleasure to deal with and incredibly helpful. He guided me through the steps required to enable the repair job to be done, and that afternoon as promised, a new replacement hot water cylinder was delivered to my door. The next morning Ryan arrived and promptly got on with the installation process. He too was friendly and pleasant to deal with and had the new cylinder up and running within a few hours, despite having to modify the plumbing to suit the new system. Ryan did a great job, even taking away the old cylinder and leaving the site nice and tidy. I found The Cylinder Guys to be friendly, efficient and prompt, and I have no hesitation rating them '10 out of 10'. I recommend these guys - they offer a great service!"

Despite several visits from local plumbers, the issue was ongoing and remained undiagnosed. "I touched base with Dan Hellyer from the cylinder guys about the issue we have with our current cylinder. He explained all the various options and costings to us and sent quote via email. Steve Meadows (The Plumber) came around to check out the job prior to actual installation to view any problems that they may face. I suggested that I would move out all the shelves in cupboard before date of work to give no restrictions on installation.
Installation went a head with no issues. Steve and i discussed the issue with how do we get the old cylinder out without spilling the rusty water over the carpet. Covered cylinder with 2 tarps and tape. moved cylinder down the stairs from the second level of house without spilling any rusty water anywhere. Steve completed the job within the time frame they had advised. Nothing was to much trouble even at the end where there was no power to switch (it was a problem with ripple relay in the meter in the end) they as in Stave and Dan were trying there best to touch base with an electrician. Steve stayed around to we were happy with the job .

With our experience with these guys they are very professional in there approach, support and communications throughout the process HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

"Disappointing experience. Had a conversion from low pressure to mains pressure cylinder.

Didn’t turn up on the day scheduled, had to chase up Jason.
Misquoted the install. Ended up being $700 ex gst more expensive. I wasn’t even called for warning about this - I received two amended invoices throughout the day while they were installing the cylinder. Apparently there is a lowest price guaranteed? But what’s the point if they don’t stick to the quote?
The cylinder leaked twice! Apparently this is common but we were not warned about it prior to install. After the first leak, you think you’d check the possibility of leaks elsewhere. It took a week for the water to start coming up under our kitchen floor boards. Finally fixed. Another $1000 to fix the leaks.
Emailed Jason outlining disappointment and have had no response."

"The cylinder guys sales rep is very dodgy. He didn't send anyone to quote the job first.He gave me a $3000 quote but when the tradies turned up on the day of the job , they told me that there was more electrical work to be done and also replacing the low pressure shower mixer. I paid a total of $4100! I was also quoted for 5 meters of pipework which was only 3 meter away from the cylinder.They also added $100 of extra pipework which I don't know what it is and when I asked the rep about this he he got very defensive used very technical term to try to confuse me .It took over 3 weeks for the cylinder guy to remove the other cylinder .The plumbing company that carried out the job was very good but next time I will used them directly instead of going through the cylinder guy."

"Our cylinder burst on Friday afternoon, 1st November. Our local plumber could not assist until Tuesday or Wednesday. The Cylinder Guy's faster reaction to our call for help was therefore much appreciated. Phil was outstanding. He'd driven from Auckland on the Saturday, arrived at our home in Hastings approx. 6.45 p.m. and went under the house, cut off the water to the cylinder, drained it and set everything up ready for installation on Monday morning. Sunday afternoon we got his emailed invoice and terms of contract. He gave us his cell phone number and gave excellent service throughout the installation.
However, my concern is with the financial constraints. On Sunday, we had 2 1/2 hours to come up with the deposit, or the Monday installation would not proceed. Further, if the deposit was paid, but the transaction was later cancelled, there was a $100 fee plus GST, also notice of debt collector charges and legal fees etc. If installation did proceed, full payment was expected on the the day of job completion. No 'please pay within 7 days' or any such period of grace. How many people, particularly old age pensioners coping with a situation stressful enough as it is, can stump up with 2-3 thousand dollars at a few hours notice?
You wanted a genuine response and that's what i've given - first-class service, but
intimidating financial time frame."

Brett attended the installation. Very friendly and very knowledgable. The cylinder would just not fit so he personally went and sought out the new hwc. "Finally Hot Water
Last week i had 3 quote from different plumber to see the cost of changing our 42 years old copper cylinder that was leaking. Out of 3 Phil from the cylinder guy did a great customer services. He was quick to arrange someone to come and look and do a quote for a gas cylinder option or a water tank. We had also two other quote from two plumbing well know but the cost was much more expensive but also no contact back before one week. So The cylinder guy were very into it. Business and customer services was impressive and phil was always polite and professional. So Tony you need to look after Phil and Mike lol they are your gold ha ha ha."

"Our water cylinder died on the weekend (of course) after nearly 40 years service. Phoned Cylinder Guy who said they'd get back to me. They phoned first thing Monday and provided a prompt quite and confirmed the new installation for the Tuesday morning. Will arrived on time and after rechecking some measurements headed off and collected the new cylinders. Excellent, friendly service. Will very happy to explain parts of the process as he went along. Stayed and made final checks of the work done. I am very happy to recommend The Cylinder Guy."

"These guys were awesome to deal with. They were my third call after a google search immediately after hearing gushing coming from my ceiling where my hot water cylinder is and the only ones who could commit to being able to send someone straight over for a look. It was no more than 20 minutes after my first call that Kevin pulled up in my drive way. Within 5-10 minutes Kevin had turned off the supply to the old cylinder so that we could have the main back on so still access cold water, quoted the price of a new cylinder and sorted where it was going to go. He was back the next day to install the new cylinder as agreed and everything seems to be going well so far. The old cylinder (30+ years old) was in the ceiling cavity and the new one needed to go outside. I'm not sure about value for money so I'm going to give them a 100% rating as it would be unfair for me to say otherwise not having had to buy and have a cylinder installed ever before and also not having any other business price up the work but the total all inclusive cost was $3,277.50 for them to drain/remove the old cylinder, source/purchase/install the new cylinder in a different location from the old one. Anyway, I'm happy with their work and service."

"The service received warrants a lot higher percentage than 100. I first contacted The Cylinder Guy by their web page enquiry, and received a follow-up call from Craig in a very, very short space of time. This was Tuesday before 12am. The new cylinder was installed, compliance certified, and commissioned by 12am Wednesday. Mike (their Christchurch plumber/installer) was totally professional, friendly, and certainly knew his stuff. So, to summarise, 100% satisfaction for a five star service."

"Mike is fully experienced plumber I have seen. He learns building very much and can deal with complicated plumbing work. Mike is worthy to be respected and recommended plumber. Mike and his guy completed my cylinder installation. They have done a good job. I am very happy for this work.
But a little unfortunately, his guy used my vacuum cleaner to clean the wet carpet because I found the wet wool stuck inside and the tube in my vacuum cleaner was wet,

Sent an email to the Cylinder Guy for a quote that night, received a phone call first thing Monday morning and the new cylinder was installed on Friday. I tried getting a quote from another outfit to compare and couldn't even get a response. "Dan at The Cylinder Guy made the whole process of replacing my old low pressure cylinder with a high pressure one so easy. He talked me through the process over the phone answering all my questions & explaining everything in detail. He gave me an estimated cost at that point which was confirmed when the plumber came round. Everything was up front - no hidden costs or surprises. The quote was also $2000 cheaper than another quote I had! The local plumber Steve from Steve Meadows Plumbing in Tauranga did an excellent job and left everything clean & tidy. "WOW ... Cylinder one day and the power the next ... without hot-water for 36 hours. Email & phone calls to push to get it done. And I had to take a day off work to sort this out ... there goes my $85 for the day. I could have spent $2000 on locals to have this done or I could spend $2500 with the cylinder guy and have it done all in one go (apparently) ... all so I didn't have to leave work and Id have hot water.

"We were really impressed with how easy it was to work with Dan and his team. We requested a quote over the weekend, heard back from Dan on the Monday and had the new cylinder installed on the Thursday of the same week.
