"Beware of using this plumber as it was the worst trades experience! Anslow initially seemed helpful although once the job was secured he sent an apprentice (at full rates) to work unsupervised; then another employee who lacked knowledge of how to do the work required. Their inability to turn up at an agreed time causes inconvenience, as do the many call backs for him to fix the problems. Anslow consistently disputed what was to be done - even though the job was in writing, costed and signed! DO NOT AGREE TO PAY BY CREDIT CARD and do not pay until the work has been satisfactorily completed. Advise anyone to check feedback here and registration status with Plumbers, Gasfitters, Drainlayers Board before employing a plumber!"

"Absolute crooks. Cold called (doubtless related to the fact that their registration for plumbing jobs is currently suspended), mucked us around (two visits for the simplest of repair jobs - putting up guttering that had come down in a storm), then blatantly HUGELY overcharged us by hundreds of dollars. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER.

It is obvious that the positive reviews on this site are written by them - activity I would describe as fraudulent and therefore not surprising.

Don't touch them with a bargepole.

was very young and did not look old enough to be a fully qulified
plumber.sure enough when i looked him up on the pgdb database
he was on a limited licence and needed to be supervised at all times. When i spoke to Gordon about this on the phone he muttered and mumbled and hung up on me.Having read the other reviews here i am glad i checked up on them and i suggest you do to.
p.s the boy they sent round is called Tom.

"I had one of the plumbers from absolute plumbing come round and replace my hot water cylinder, my kitchen faucet, also do some alterations on my bathroom including replacing my bath, vanity and toilet. They sent a lovely young man; Tommy around to give me a quote which i was happy to accept as he gave me a break down of the whole job, each day as he completed the work i asked for.
by the end of the third week he had the whole house in fit condition! he even did small building work to tidy things up in time to sell the house, i sold the house for alot more than i was looking for. the state-of-the-art bathroom he created impressed me so much i didn\'t want to sell!

"These guys are a riff-off please don\'t use them. My son called them on a Publci Holiday as a pipe had sprung a leak on the outside of a property we own. Our sons live there, we were away on holiday at the time. The guy turned up quickly and quoted a price of approx $200.00 to fix as only a small job. Took him approx 15 mins to fix. Once finished he said the price was $580.00 after adding on all sorts of extra charges. He then refused to leave until he was paid his money. My son just wanted to get rid of him (he was young and naive) so went to an ATM close by and drew out the cash to get rid of him. If we had of been in Wellington at the time we could have fixed the leakiy pipe ourselves as that how small a job it was."

"We first contacted absolute plumbing on sunday 13th dec to fix a water main leak in our driveway we already had the hole dug up for the person to come. When Raymond singh arrived UNSUPERVISED when he wasnt a registered plumber took 3 hours to put in temporary fixtures in until the monday when the shop opened for the permanent fixtures. My 70 year old grandmother got a bill for 900 dollars and raymond was demanding all the money up front. Then 5 days later on friday 16th raymond singh arrived on our doorstep again but this time raymond had my gran bailed up in the doorway demanding more money and harrasing her for reporting him to the plumbing and gasfitting board. ABSOLUTE PLUMBING AND RAYMOND SINGH ARE CROOKS AND YOU DISGUST ME FOR HARRASING AN ELDERLY PENSIONER IN HER OWN HOME. LEAGAL AND CRIMINAL ACTION IS BEING TAKEN!!!"

"PLEASE heed mine and others warnings and DO NOT USE this plumber (has also traded as Absolute Plumbing, AAA Absolute).

Refer to the web sites below for supporting comments.

We contracted to them to replace a water cylinder in a flat (we had already removed the old one and organised the replacement cylinder). While away on business, he called wanting $1200.00 by end of day for labour for 2 staff.

No breakdown or invoice supplied, when questioned about the amount charged to date, plus the extra days charges pending, we paid $750.00 to get job completed & would finalise up on return to Lower Hutt.

They called the next day wanting more money, with yet a higher estimate.

We terminated his employment & replaced with a local Hutt Valley Plumber, who had job completed next morning.

They charged for items I had already supplied, removed tools and parts, left a mess and did not return keys (had to get lock re-keyed for tenant). They were trying to charge for 2 staff on a job, when only 1 person can fit in the confined work space!!

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. This is the worst plumbing company I have ever used. The owner failed to say how much the call out would cost. When pushed all I could get was \"we\'ll look after you\" That should have been a warning sign. The add on charges were never disclosed. He asked for a billing address then called back for a visa number. If this happens again from any other tradesman, I will say stop work now. The charges were double what I was led to expect. The work was less than described. The experience left me feeling ripped off by a con man."

"it was a job for my rental
I asked for the pricing\'s labour rate for after hours and being a tradesman myself i don\'t mind after hour labour rates for an urgent job.But find there way of explaining there after hour prices was not very clear.
they charge for after hours $90 for servcie call vechile which =$135gst and this is only the vechile to the door not including the man: so they charge labour on top to get to the door.
so not only you pay $135 gst you also pay say 30 min labour of $45gst and haven\'t done anything yet labour for the job

to tehedoor real prices are $180gst which is $200 to the door including the man(tradesperson) with nothing done

I being a tradesperson and also do after hour calls i am very clear in what my call out rate is which would be $100 gst including vechile and man then a minium of $75=gst per hour this is for after hours . as originally i was told $135 the man to the door NOT TRUE

They also advertise as AAA and they tell you they are local but they are not and they also charge from what job they are on.

To me i don\'t like companies like this as they give trades man bad names

**** very quick at getting money of you.

    Be very careful

The work was carried out very fast and he even changed and greased a few tap washers while he was waiting for the hot water cylinder to empty.

Being an old house we have had to do several repairs over the past 3 years, but we are nearly done now. Absolute plumbing were able to finish the job over a 3 day period and we believe that they provided a good service at a reasonable price. We would be happy to recommend them again to other people."

"My roof sprung a leak, I organised with this company to put up some flashing from the house to the roof.

On the first day of work, when they turned up to the house there was admittedly a bit of frost on the roof, they left and arrived back 4 hours later around lunchtime. When I got home from work, I found 1 sheet of flashing installed only and this was incorrect.

Spoke to Gordon; he assured me that he would be around first thing in the morning to “sort it out”. His crew turned up at Noon and Gordon 2 hours later. At one time, 5 people were on my roof discussing how to do this piece of work. My neighbour overheard these workers talking stating they had never done this kind of work before. I arrived home from work on the 2nd day and found only 1 sheet put up & once again it was incorrect.

Was starting to get annoyed at this point and decided to do a closer inspection of my roof to see first hand the work what these guys had done over the last 2 days.

I found a lot more dents in the roof; they had cracked in numerous places the Hardie Board on the house, not something I would expect of a so called professional unit.

Around the house, there was shards of metal, nails left on the roof etc.. You get the picture.

In the end, I had to seal up their holes left in my Hardie Board / Roof as they left for the day, rain was forecasted that evening. Not Impressed!!

Thankfully, I managed to get a replacement Hardie Board from this company, which was dropped off outside my premise over 1 week later. I had to chase Gordon to get this mind, whom almost put the phone down on me, silly me, thought they would front up with the board without any persuasion.

They didn’t even have the curtsey to advise that they had delivered the board, we just found it on our premise one evening and just by chance as we had to pick something up from the shops, this really annoyed me.

Certainly would not suggest to use this company for any work. When Gordon came around to quote, almost immediately before even looking at the roof, he suggested we replace parts / all of the roof while he was doing the flashing, would even go and say that he deliberately sabotage the roof with the amount of people walking across my roof.

Refused to let him or any of his crew near my house again, found one of his crew wondering out our back section the day after I told Gordon to stop working on my house. (2nd day of their work)

There was no knock on the door to let us know that they had turned up, just walked down the back section.

Threaten Gordon with legal action if he or his crew, so much as put foot on my property again (excluding dropping off the replacement Hardie Board)

You will certainly regret it if you use this crowd, certainly not happy with their professionalism, lack of general respect for the client and the work they almost produced. This site states, “No Cowboys” I’ve changed that for this crew to “What a bunch of Cowboys!!

"Absolute Plumbing came out on Christmas day which was fantasic considering the plumber who attended had a 1 year old baby at home. They gave me a fairly decent quote for the emergency job on the public holiday which turned out to only be $350 including all charges. In the end the job was finished quicker than expected and the job was reduced to $320 as it was completed in a much shorter time span than first anticipcated. I have had them back again to fix all my guttering which was leaking and I was impressed with the work that was completed on my house."

"I used Absolute Plumbing to install a new bathroom in my house and I found the job was done well. There were some major challenges with re-doing the bathroom as our house had some major water damage 6 years ago which was not fixed correctly. We had a small budget to do up the bathroom and had not expected to have to fix some of the walls and flooring due to the previous water damage. Absolute Plumbing were able to provide us a cheaper solution to get it fixed then some of the other companies we had quotes from, overall the job was done well and we saved a fair bit of money."

"Do not use Absolute Plumbing (were ABC Plumbing). Called out on a Sunday and I agreed to pay call out fee, but this was about the only reasonable price paid. Gordon arrived late each time he arranged to cal. Due to bad weather he had to return a couple of times, but charged full half hour travelling for each visit for him and an assistant when they were just around the road. Charged for assistant when he wasn't on site. While he comes across as friendly, this seems to be a ploy to charge extra time. Queried the account which was over the top for a relatively simple job, but Absolute Plumbing has not been forthcoming in trying to sort this out. I won't use them again - and suggest no one else does either."

"Moved into a new house, alone, heavily pregnant, with toddler, to discover major gas leak. At least these guys turned up (no one else did - Xmas time) but they then said all appliances leaking, I agreed to having an Infinity installed. However they didn't come back to do it, left me without hot water for five days! Then told me they were going to put it on one wall but actually put it on another where we intended to install a sliding door. Was told "well you aren't now!" when I pointed this out. It was a complete eyesore. Had them back to check why there was a strong smell of gas and extreme vibration everytime hot water running, was told that this was normal. Subsequently had the Infinity moved by another contractor who informed me the joiners on the pipes hadn't been crimped, hence pipe was vibrating and gas leaking. Don't trust them."

"Came late, charged for travel from some some far away place, total price for a small leak was an incredible amount, still we paid cash on the day and was given receipt

The real problem came a year later when their accounts people rang us to get us to pay again. Their records didn't say we had paid, and they couldn't even tell us who did the job. They started threatening us with collectors. Eventually someone there figured out their computer system and they talked to the plumber who confirmed we paid.

They then rang another year later asking us to pay again. Luckily the person remembered the case I think it's sorted now. Although I'm half expecting another call at the end of this financial year.

"In Dec last year I had been trying to get a plumber to fix my hot water cylinder for over 2 weeks. Wellington seems to be short of any plumbers around xmas time and I couldnt get anyone to come around after hours. Absolute Plumbing came out to see me at 10pm one night as I was so desperate and were able to fix the problem within an hour. They did inform me that I would need a replacement as it was near the end of its life.
When the it packed up this month they did a great job of installing a new water cylinder, however I found the cost a little expensive. I decided to call a few other plumbers because I thought I had been ripped off to see how much they would charge for a new one with installation. I was shocked to find out that all the quotes were just as expensive as Absolute Plumbing. It seems as if the price of living in New Zealand is catching up to my home country England..!

"Absolute rip off! Came as asked in an emergency and solved the immediate problem. But remedial work in next few days was done without adequate information, impossible to get the information we needed including any idea of possible cost. Outrageous charges for simple digging labour which took way to long for the job. City Council staff called in to check their responsibility for a common pipe stated the job had been done illegally and queried the extent of the digging. Patronising manner from Gordon and came to the house at night toget payment when legitimate businesses post invoices and give you a week to pay.

Really passive aggressive tactics about payment and documents and general manner. Do not employ these guys - you will be very dissatisfied

"DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! A simple job of installing a dishwasher was not done and the piping leaked. I had to pay for another plumber to come and fix the job. On top of this I was Grossly overcharged for a simple job according to other plumbers I have since spoken to. I have since taken the matter to the plumbers, drainlayers and gasfitters board. Will likely be taking the matter to court pending the outcome from the board.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Most (if not all) the employees from Absolute Plumbing Drains & Gas are Ex. prison inmates and ARE NOT trade Qualified plumbers. They have been on Fair Go and the plumbers, drainlayers and gasfitters board many times previously known as ABC plumbing until they changed to Absolute and moved to Wellington; (Google: Gordon Anslow to view the latest Fair Go cases) DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR HOUSE!!!!"

"DO NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGE POLE!!! Had a water heater fitted by these guys. Justin (the supervisor) decided that it needed moving which cost more than originally advised due to an extra half a day's labour. Found out later that according to the instruction book this was not the case and the water heater could of stayed where it was. Contacted the office with regards to this complaint, got absolutely nowhere. They also expect payment on the day of the job. Now taking the matter further. Only used them as we were deparate, won't be doing that again! What an absolute disaster. See you in the complaints queue if you do decide to use them!"

"Before attending wanted Credit Card number (i didn't give it to them)! Didn't really want to go in to charges either over the phone, which should have been a warning sign, but as they probably know, in a leak situation, you just need it fixing asap.

They attended a leak and fixed the leak in about 3 hours. Plumber was pleasant, but It would be fair to say he was not in a hurry to fix with many trips out to his van, where it was rather unclear what he was doing. Invited them to 'quote' on on a specificed job to replace cylinder. Apparently, they don't do quotes. They do estimates. The estimate was around 80% more than other plumbers had quoted, and given it was an estimate, probably not worth the paper it was (not) printed on.

You'd have to be desperate to use them, and I would advise only as a last resort.

"These guys are cowboys, keep away from this company. They don't know what they are doing ... didn't finish the job, charged me heaps and I had to get another plumber to come and finish it. The second company took only couple of hours to undo all the mess they made and fix the plumbing. Where as these guys took almost 4 hrs and said they had to come the next day as well. These guys will rip you off and threaten you to get what they want. It was very unpleasant."

    "Absolute daylight robbery!

Overcharged, spent too much time talking and not enough working.

They turned up a week late the second time (giving them the benefit of the doubt).

Still waiting for a quote, not holding our breath on this one.

Still not sure the problem is sorted... but we won't be using them again for any work anyway."

"Beware of this company and do not use these tradesmen - they will overcharge and under deliver. I used Gordon for a standard hot water cylinder only to be overcharged without ever finding out why it cost so much more than the original estimates. I tried to discuss my bill with Gordon and he refused to talk to me so I went the disputes tribunal for them to sort out what would be a reasonable cost. Gordon overspent on my credit card and I have a complaint with the Plumbers, drainlayers and Gasfitters Board. He is such a rogue he shouldn't be allowed on the unsuspecting public - beware!!! If he is chasing you for money you don't owe - don't pay!"

"This firm and Gordon Anslow in particular are the worst tradespeople I have ever dealt with. In addition to being deliberately given incorrect advice, I was grossly overcharged, my credit card was charged without my authorisation, and the quality of their workmanship was crap. It took Gordon about 4 hours to fix two dripping taps. His staff didn't show for days, (and then four of them would be on site, stay for 30 minutes and disappear) - and I was charged an hour's "travel" each time for each of them. Another plumber told me he didn't believe the work they did was necessary in the first place, and that if it had been, it would have taken him around 20 hours - compared to the 65 hours Gordon charged. Don't go near these cowboys. I am complaining to the Plumbers and Gasfitters Board about them (joining a long queue, I would think) - shame I found out too late they had been on Fair Go three times. You will regret it if you let them anywhere near your plumbing or your credit card."

"Great service with a quality finish. Turned up on time, actually rang to say they had a guy in the area and completed job before they first said they would be able to come. Staff were great to deal with and the deal went through with no problems at all. Would have no hesitations calling them again."

"Absolute Plumbing, owned by Gordon Anslow was formerly known as ABC Plumbing, operating in the Wellington area. Both of Anslow\'s companies and their dealings have been the subject of three Fair Go programmes, for gross overcharging (including debiting customers\' credit cards without their aurthorisation), and poor quality work. My own experience of them is now the subject of a complaint to the Plumbers and Gasfitters Registration Board. "

"Absolute plumbing was terrible - they charged me $455 to supposedly fix a toby that was leaking outside my house when the acutal problem was a leaking pipe in the wall of my house. According to an architect friend of mine, the work they did do (even though it was completely unrelated to the actual problem) was extremely overpriced and took far longer than it should have to complete (although I was at work at the time and suspect that I may have been billed for more hours than it actually took them). In addition, they rang me the day after they had \'completed\' the job to get payment over the phone by credit card - this was before I realised they hadn\'t actually fixed the problem. When I got them back because the problem wasn\'t fixed, they said they wouldn\'t be able to get anyone to look look into it further until Tuesday (this was on a Friday) because everyone was away for the long weekend. I ended up getting another plumber in the next morning who fixed the problem for $320. I would discourage anyone from using Absolute Plumbing."

"We called their 0800 number at 3:30pm on a Saturday afternoon and was told that a plumber would be with us shortly. We rang again at 5:30 and were told \'shortly\' again. Still no-show by 3rd call 7:10pm. We range again at 8:30pm. Shortly after we were told it was too lat and would be tomorrow (Sunday). Plumber arrived shortly around 10:30am but didn\'t have the parts to do the job, and arranged to come back on Monday after 3:00pm. Eventually turned up at 5:15pm. No problems with workmanship (so far) but their commitment to their \"\" advertising and arithmetic in their billing leaves something to be desired. Tried to send a well-worded email explaining the situation (with copy of their worksheet & costs) and request for partial refund but email bounced."

"They are the worst, sneaky company ive ever heard since i was born... They are liers, dishonest and very sneaky. They overcharge because they offer so much things for their employees, and of course they have to get that money from this people. And the people who works in the office are terrible... They pretend they know everything but theyre dumb. Especially the office manager, who thinks that he was that smart, for all we know he just came from somewhere in India and trying to have this Kiwi accent... but still he doesnt fit. Very dumb.... Not recommended at all..... full of bull**** and false advertisement. ........................"

"This business were rung on a statutory holiday and came straight round. The job was completed in the minimum time and I was very pleased with the amount charged for the work. I'm just the tenant, but from what I saw Gordon did an excellent job. He clearly explained sensible options for the work required. Would be happy to use them again for any other job."

"Didn\'t actually use them in the end, as they twice failed to turn up! When I initially rang to arrange the job, I was quoted a call out fee and an hourly rate. I booked someone in, and then I called the morning of the job to confirm. Found out that afternoon that they were a no show - my tiling tradesman had called to find out they were delayed! I rang the next morning to confirm they were coming, and the receptionist then informed me that they were coming and then said they charged daily to my credit card. I said no - the job was three different days (lift toilet, then replace it and lift a second toilet, then replace it on day three) and that I would pay at the end of the job as invoiced. She said they don\'t do that, and could I give my credit card details. I said no, please could the manager contact me. They never did, and they never showed. From other feedback on here (only just found this site) I see that I might have been lucky here. Have found a far more reasonably priced plumber who is booked in, AND who has good feedback on here."

"Useless & incompentent - charges an arm & leg for simple jobs, which they could not complete until advised by owner. Pitch up when they want to and not at time indicated. Will never use them again!!!

Also provide gas and drainage services - probably just as useless!!!

Chances are they will change their name and start afresh - but Gordon Anslow is ABSOLUTELY useless!!!"

"Absolute Rogues.Turned up a day and a half late, refused to give me an hour credit as they advertise on their card if they are late, then insisted on swipping my credit card and overcharged me.Refused to answer my queries on why I was overcharged, finally sent me a bogus letter.Am reporting them to Plumbers and Gasfitters board whom know them very well as con men, and it appears unbeknown to me at the time have had numerous fair go appearances, as rip off artists. Also reporting them to commerce commission for breaching fair trading act, do not go near Gordon Anslow or this firm, they will rip you off and not respond to your queries, I\'m amazed NZ law allows them to still run around operating like the cowboys they are, a disgrace to the NZ plumbing trade."
