"Never again will I use these movers, their first deception is their slogan that is written all over their packaging “The careful movers”. Here’s our experience moving from Wellington to Whanganui (a 2.5 hour drive) so we utilised both the Wellington franchise as well as Palmerston North.
When they arrived, they got me to sign on their iPad, they said we are signing to agree to the uplift of our goods, they didn’t show me any terms and conditions I was signing for and after receiving my inventory, it appears that my signature was not even used and has been forged next to some conditions indicating a bunch of stuff I apparently agreed to which I absolutely did not. This all should have been signed after they uplift, not before.

They also underestimated the amount of space they needed for our goods and required a second truck in the end, I was told that my goods would be going into the container on the truck and then to the warehouse to be stored and from there onto the train and then on the truck again to my address in Whanganui, basically I was told my goods would not be double handled. however the second truck they brought was not in a container so these goods were double handled, they tried to charge me over $1000 extra on top of a move that was already costing over $4000 for the extra truck, I was in tears, I was moving because I couldn’t afford my mortgage anymore, I couldn’t afford the extra costs and they were threatening to hold onto my belongings which included some very important and expensive medical equipment if I didn’t pay the extra.

The move itself took until almost 6:30pm when they arrived just after 8:30am. They took multiple breaks and seemed like everything took much longer than it needed to.

They were not careful and knocked doors and walls multiple times, I was highly stressed as the buyers of our house are very particular.

All the movers used my toilet multiple times and made a huge mess of it every time which meant I was cleaning it and mopping the floor multiple times after every use because I had my 3 young kids with me including my toilet trained 6 year old using the toilet and for his safety I had to make sure it was clean.

The movers made no effort to minimise leaking water from washing machine pipes or fridge/freezer and I had to literally mop up water behind them to ensure the safety of everyone else around, they ended up dropping my fridge flat onto the concrete outside my house and damaged it so badly that it needed replacing.

Their iPad battery went flat and they borrowed my charger and the second time it went flat, he said he had no time to charge it and would label the rest of our goods the next day and I’d receive the update online, this was extremely unprofessional.

The weather was very windy and they left my glass front door open multiple times for it to slam shut which is not only a hazard for my children who were in and out of the door but also a risk of the glass smashing.

They continually lined up our belongings under the edge of the carport and when it rained I watched my furniture get saturated, I ran out in the pouring rain to ask them to put my things in the truck as it was soaking wet.

They were sticking their labels directly onto my wooden furniture and damaging it. I would have thought they would have been more professional considering the high price I paid for the move.

We were given a tight timeframe of 2 weeks to discover what damages were caused to report to them in order for their insurance to resolve it. They did over $10,000 of damage to our belongings and it was a stressful and drawn out process to claim for these items, I had to do all the work taking photos of each item, arranging assessor’s, estimates and researching replacement values, it was very time consuming and in the end they paid over just half of the value of damages they caused. There was a lot of unnecessary damage caused such a snapping my Christmas tree in half, breaking all my washing machine pipes so it was leaking, snapping hinges and pieces off a shed. They came up with all sorts of excuses not to cover certain items.

Their insurance company is also an international company, but they refused to ring me to discuss anything because my number was an international number ???????????

When we moved in, I had to do a separate insurance claim with the franchise in Palmerston North because they made a slit in my 6 year old kitchen vinyl with the corner of the fridge when they were moving it into place, it was a stressful process that took almost 5 months to resolve because I had to keep following them up literally every single day to get any action out of them, they were just hoping I would forget about it. We had to have the entire kitchen floor redone.

"Totally terrible and definitely do not recommend. Allied Tauranga (TOMA Logistics Limited t/as Allied Moving Services) misplaced an entire pallet of my belongings, failing to include this in the shipment that I'd paid over $20K to send from NZ to France. Now blaming me for this, and disputing they have any liability. Director Todd Morris has been threatening and mansplaining to me (a female lawyer) about how contract law works. Only option now is for me to take them to the Disputes Tribunal to enforce their breach of contract. Disgracefully unprofessional, patronizing and rude, and have cost me thousands due to their mistakes. In addition to them misplacing 10% of my shipment, over 10% of what did arrive was damaged and broken due to poor packing, requiring me to file a separate insurance claim for over $5K. And I have had to request their office staff multiple times to provide me with properly legal GST receipts for the payments I've made for storage and shipping - usually these have been difficult to obtain from them, which makes me question how well their finances are being run and how compliant they are with GST etc. Sad as most of the rest of the team that I dealt with were lovely, but the boss, Todd Morris, is a piece of work. Do not use this company, ever!"

"We've used Toma Logistics (trading as Allied Pickfords) previously and had a good experience, however they moved us between islands this year and the whole experience was appalling. They didnt tell us when they were turning up to deliver, We have some very expensive items which are missing and a number of items which were damaged/poorly packaged etc and their only response was oh well thats what insurance is for. Definitely would not recommend and we will never use again."

"Allied Pickford and SIRVA (their insurance) provided a terrible service. Moved our furniture from New Zealand to Australia in 2022. Many items were broken during the move.Whilst unpacking items were broken and the movers showed no remorse, just shrugged their shoulders. They did not want to assemble items they took apart. I had to leave home for about 30 minutes and when I got back they had left, long before they were supposed to. Many items were not unpacked or assembled. The biggest problem and all beware as this may be the same with other moving companies - The insurance is dealt with through SIRVA who refused to pay for all our goods even though we were covered. They offered a setlement without full knowledge of the cover but refused to include the items. SIRVA and Allied Pickfords then lied about who provided advice and who should be blamed. When Isaid I would go to the obmudsman in Australia (AFCA) they laughed and said AFCA didnt have jurisdiction in Australia. I checked with the ombudsman in New Zealand and they said SIRVA was not on their database, It took AFCA 3 months to decide that I was covered by Australian law to SIRVA's dismay. Their ies continued through mediation. I can't imagibe how many other people went though this not knowing their rights especially as I am the first person(in 2022) AFCA had to represent with this. SIRVA knows this and continue to to take people's money. BEWARE. Warn your friends. Many people are leaving New Zealand and will be fooled by Allied Pickford and SIRVA as many others have."

"Appalling. Lost items, forgot a piano because, get this, everythg double handled to be kept in storage for a month between pickup and delivery. Not stored in the container used for collection. Ladder stolen, Edwardian furnitire had piece of wood broken, broke balustrade on our staircase. Threatening when suggested putting in insurance claim. As you point out not registered! Vile company, only in NZ surely cld they still be operating? When did naivety become stupidity here I wonder?!"

"Utterly dreadful experience. The move was from Christchurch to Lower Hutt. They were not the cheapest quote as I felt a larger company would have more resources. Two packers turned up on Monday and Tuesday but did not finish. The house was sold and the move had to happen on the Wednesday as the property changed hands on the Thursday. Friday was Easter. The truck came on Wednesday but only half, or less, was loaded with the men saying they would finish on Thursday. I argued that this had all been arranged months prior, they had been paid in full and the move had to be completed on that very last day. Regardless they left. By about 5 pm I had managed to get another truck with some young guys from Allied Pickford after insistent discussions. It was now raining. They threw things into the lorry... really mean threw. I was just awful to watch. I finished cleaning the entire property about 9pm and was exhausted. Next morning I drove to Picton to get the ferry.

The Christchurch agent phoned me to say he had under quoted and now I needed to pay another $1500 before they would deliver. He had said everything would reach Lower Hutt within a week. I argued that I had accepted their quote over cheaper ones. Three weeks later nothing had been delivered and I had heard nothing. When I phoned, the (Chch) agent said it was still all in Christchurch. He said he was holding it there in their yard until they had been paid the extra money they had subsequently demanded. In Lower Hutt we were sleeping on the floor waiting for the bed. We had no kitchen table, etc. we were just camping. Finally I paid half just to get the things. They came about four days later but it was a chaotic situation with stuff just jammed in the truck. Some breakages but less than I expected. One thing stood out. I am an antique restorer. The extremely heavy combination saw bench was delivered upside down, with the blade dragging on the ground. I have no idea why or even how they managed to do that as it took three men to upright it. The Wellington AP woman was very good but the stress of having your goods held hostage and the chaotic departure from Christchurch gives me zero confidence in the culture of that company.

"Items stolen by Allied Pickford UK and Allied and Insurance dont want to help. Insurance is good for nothing, they are avoiding paying out despite us paying $3000 for the policy. Do not use Allied Pickford UK or NZ. We carefully packaged our goods and kept in a storage unit for Allied to collect. We we were told our boxes would not be opened only shipped to NZ (for the large sum of $10,000) only to be told they had been taken to a Warehouse in the UK first where Allied Pickford employees were going to open everything and re pack it all meaning our bubble wrap and itinery meant nothing. We were horrified but helpless on the other side of the world. We waited months and finally the devastating moment arrived - we opened boxes to find so much missing, their employees had rifled through everything and cherry picked the valuable items they wanted and damaged other items. Expensive boxed sound system, branded goods, designer sunglasses and luggage. We were beyond upset then to top it all off the expensive insurance that Allied advised we took have refused to pay out, claiming the small print that we only get a portion of the missing items and other items are mechanical damage which isnt covered even though their employees damaged it which is why its not mechanically damaged. It is absolutely disgusting that a huge company like this can go against their contract and open all your stuff, mis-sell you insurance, steal from you then refuse to reimburse you for the missing items and basically not offer any compensation. We are forced to look into legal options now as we are so out of pocket and they should not be allowed to get away with this. Please avoid like the plague!"

"Thank you to the Allied Pickfords team for the magnificent service; packing, moving, storing and unloading of my precious house contents.

The Nelson team arrived on schedule (early even!) last Friday. It was heartening to see that the contents in the container was pretty much as it left my place except for an additional box for another customer. This gave me the confidence to not fuss about checking things off as boxes were unloaded. The contents of the container was unloaded with care and efficiency and the putting up of the three beds and the dining table was appreciated. Your Nelson team even kindly swapped sofas around in the lounge after a change of thinking on my part,

The arrival of my things in Nelson ended a whirlwind change in my life and I will always be very grateful for everyone at Allied Pickfords working to make the move a great experience for me. The communication from the Nelson office was superb!

Your Nelson guys arrived Tuesday afternoon to pick up the empty boxes and now I am fully settled in. Can't believe it!

"We were quoted a fixed price for a complete pack-up, move and placement (not unpack) at our new house which was only two blocks away. We also paid for a subcontractor (taken on by Allied Pickfords) to move our spa pool to the new address.
They came the day before and started packing up our belongings but left with the job probably only 30% complete. The next day they came back with more people and continued packing but did not start loading the truck until mid-afternoon as they had totally underestimated the manpower required to do the job.

There was a very heavy freestanding wardrobe that needed to be moved and they had been warned that it was a tricky job, but they didn't have the correct equipment (flat trolley) and instead used a hand trolley, causing significant damage to the walls and door of the house we were leaving (which needed to be repaired).

The spa pool movers came in the afternoon to do the job but the AP truck was blocking our driveway and they didn't move it, so the spa movers left again without doing the job.

This meant that the AP guys ended up moving the spa at about 8pm when it was far too dark to put it where we wanted around the back of the house, so it remains in the wrong place and needing to be moved still.

They damaged some of our paintings by not packing them properly, and when I asked Mr. Powell about compensation he dismissively told me that because I hadn't taken out their (extremely expensive) moving insurance they weren't interested in paying for the repairs, despite this being due to negligent packing on their part. The reality is that the repairs should cost less than the insurance excess of $150 so the situation would have been the same anyway. My insurance had covered us for the move but as above the excess is more than this claim is likely to be.

Additionally, I went back to our old house later that night to check out whether everything had been taken, and found they had left the house unlocked with the rear doors wide open and all the lights on. Luckily there was nothing much left inside but anyone could have come along and damaged the house or taken something that had been left.

I probably would not have bothered publishing a review about this if they had been more interested in dealing with me over my damaged items but the fact that the message I got was that they really didn't care at all makes me want to warn people that they are a lot less careful than they say they are and are not interested if you don't use their insurance. Also seem very disorganized with their communications and logistics.

"The saying, you get what you pay for is true for Allied Pickfords. Their communication has been terrible we have had to contact them both to confirm when they were picking up our belongings and also had to contact them to find out when they would be dropped off. We were given the estimated delivery date of the 19th of Jan, however, after there being no communication several days after this date. We spent two days getting an updated time of delivery, we discovered that they would not arrive until the 31st of Jan. Unbelievable. For a couple who are relocating this has caused a significant inconvenience, not only in terms of time but money. I would not recommend Allied Pickfords' service to anyone."

"I got four quotes with allied Pickfords being the second cheapest, about $250 more than the lowest. I had to pay at least seven days before the removal day, which I did do. On the day only packers and wrappers came. The next day the truck was late to actually do the removal. Because the property was sold and needed an exit inspection the next morning this meant that the property had to be cleared that very day. By 3pm the two men decided they would come back in the morning but I said that was not the agreement nor was it possible as the next day I had to drive from Christchurch to catch the Picton ferry. It was raining. I rang Allied Pickford Christchurch office and complained . After about an hour another truck arrived with about 6 young men... they just threw things into the back of the truck, dropped things and everything got very wet. It was extremely distressing. By 8pm everything was gone and I had cleaned everything and locked up. The next day I got an email from Allied Pickford saying I had to pay another $1500 to have my goods delivered to Wellington. Since there were two containers I assumed at least one would be delivered while I debated their inflated quote but after two weeks in Wellington nothing had arrived. Meanwhile we were camping in our new house awaiting our furniture, bedding, kitchen utensils etc. I phoned Allied Pickfords and was told nothing would be delivered until I paid the 'extra' bill and that everything was still in Christchurch. I argued that they could not hold my stuff hostage. Eventually they delivered one container and I eventually paid $750 to get the second one delivered. Antique furniture was damaged and all my woodworking equipment was severely rusty after being stored wet in a container for several weeks. It was so stressful and I felt powerless as they had my belongings. I simply would never, ever recommend Allied Pickfords to anyone."

"Appalling administratively. We had 50 cu.m to store and move. If I had known my goods wouldn't remain in the same container they were loaded into on removal until redelivery I would never have engaged this company. As apparently they do not operate enough containers our things were loaded and unloaded 4 times before we received them at our new place! And guess what, we are now without an expensive 3-seater lounge sofa, a round outdoor table (for which we received the chairs!), a rattan 3-seater outdoor sofa, a shelving unit for CDs and we have only just started checking. No inventory was available or used on delivery of our goods so it will depend on what I can work out from our copy supplied on collection. caveat emptor!! I am appalled!!"

"Our items were in storage for over 5 years and we knew after visiting the storage facility that some items had been broken and damaged. After delivery, some were repaired, but many all. The worst thing is that we had items missing including a console table which is hard to misplace. After months of trying to get answers as to how this could happen, they agreed to pay a one off payment which is only a quarter of what it would cost to replace the lost (stolen?) item. We were very unhappy with the lack of communication and would not recommend them."

"Used Allied Pickfords because they had such a good reputation, but were quite disappointed. They insisted on repacking our items for insurance purposes, but our original packing was actually better and many items arrived damaged or completely broken. 'Their' insurance company is actually separate from Allied, and when we tried to make a claim they just masterfully bounced us back and forth between each other. Every claim seemed to be related to moisture damage somehow, which was a convenient exclusion from the policy. Wouldn't use again in a hurry!"

"We have used Allied Pickfords many times (overseas and in NZ) however we will NEVER use them again after our most recent experience. We moved from Auckland to Christchurch. We were very careful when getting the quote and pointed out items that were fragile and/or needed special packaging. This was reflected in the quote (not cheap but we assumed from prior experience that Allied would give us the best service). We were told there would be two days pre-pack and a third day to complete the pack and uplift. As it turned out the packing was badly planned and under resourced and by the third day half the house had not been packed. Further, our specially identified items had not been export packed and had to be re packed taking more time. The packing was so slow and disorganised that the crew were still packing the container at 7pm - in the dark. They were by this stage very tired and of course mistakes happened - a piece of wooden furniture (which had no wrapping at all) was dropped and damaged. At this stage we sent the crew home as they were clearly too tired to work safely. The next day (when we were supposed to have left Auckland ) they came back to complete the uplift, however we had to leave as we were already way behind schedule. We left them to lock the door on the house and crossed our fingers that everything was going to get safely to Chch. The Chch crew were great, punctual and very helpful with the unpack however on unpacking our boxes it became clear what a woeful job had been done. Special items had not been export wrapped as agreed, obviously fragile items (ceramic, paintings etc) had not been bubble wrapped or treated as fragile, items had been badly stacked in the container and shifted and broke. We were hugely disappointed. We raised our concerns with the CEO who showed absolutely no interest in the issues we raised. His response was simply that the items had been shifted as required by the contract. He had no interest in the stress his company caused due to their delays, poor planning and lack of training, nor was he interested in the damage caused to our goods or the failure to meet the contract arrangements as to export wrapping. In short his attitude showed a complete lack of interest in customer service. Allied have a well-deserved reputation for excellence internationally. Allied in New Zealand are clearly not living up to this reputation."

"Please be warned that this branch of a Global Company, using the Pickford name is very incompetent.
My goods were packed on 21 May 2014 in Wellington an I was told that it would take up to 12 weeks from door to door.
My goods did not arrive in the UK until 16 September 2014 nearly 4 months and I am finally getting my shipment delivered tomorrow 14 September. All in all it has taken nearly 5 months. I have constantly been in touch with this company and I can say that the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. My advice to all is to look around. Allied Pickfords are the most expensive in quotes but the service is shocking.

"Great hard workers - job well done and all goods in one piece after travelling Auckland to Cambridge.

Only comment is that their insurance is very expensive - shop elsewhere but packing and removal service fantastic."

"We were recommended Allied Pickfords for our move, and thought we\'d splurge on getting the packing and moving option. We were looking forward to a stress free move but it turned out to be anything but.

Basically the moving guys had not gotten the information that they were to pack. We frantically packed for a while until they went back to the office and realized that they had been given the wrong information. Then they helped to pack but half was done, in boxes all chucked in and with nothing written on them etc.

Everyone can make a mistake though. We felt that we didn\'t get what we paid for (since we did half of the packing!) so I wrote a complaint email to the lady we had been in touch with. No reply. At all.

I contacted the manager and after a couple of days I got a reply where he says already had replied to this complaint and that basically it was a mistake on the day and so on. No mention at all about compensation or even a proper apology. It made me so furious - anyone can be excused for making a mistake but then to ignore it and half heartedly reply is so bad.

I hope this review will prevent at least one person from hiring Allied Pickfords - they will gladly take your money but are awful to deal with. We move regularly and are both expats so we know heaps of people moving across town and across the world - I will always tell people that are moving to avoid using Allied Pickfords!

"They came they trashed they went. After the move we were left with expensive items taken apart and peices missing, rubbish strewn all over the house, boxes not properly labelled, items damaged, items left at the house. They even got us to sign for insurance on the day and then denied we\'d ever signed anything. The south island manager and his boss in the north island were not very helpful. We\'ve moved house a number of times and never come across such an un professional and rude outfit."
