"Wish I’d read NoCowboys before engaging Bathroom direct. It took over 6 months to complete our bathroom. Mainly due to the walls not being square (60’s house) and the bath box being built square to the wall. Which caused issues when the tiles went on, resulting in a very sharp edge on the corner of our bath. It took three attempts to fix it. We weren’t happy with the painting job either. They came to touch up and used a different colour! Communication was great initially until we started having problems. At which point we escalated our concerns."

"Be very careful if you decided to use Bathroom Direct – personally I would not use them. I now understand we were not the only ones with constant issues. Check that the tradesman are qualified (licensed) as they are known to use ‘handymen’ for their building and painting work. The project manager (Joe) is extremely difficult to work with, makes very crass and sexiest comments at times, makes important decisions without asking the client, does not communicate and forgets decisions made. Have to constantly chase up for updates as no-one turns up unless you ring. The experience from our point of view is memorable for all the wrong reasons and certainly not one we’d recommend to anybody. We have worked with many builders and subcontractor in the past and understand there will always be issues, however never to the extent that we’ve experienced with this project. Made several complaints to the owner in Auckland he just isn’t interested. There are plenty other bathroom renovations companies that offer a better service, quality products with better pricing."

"Very good experience with these guys getting our two bathrooms done. It's an oldish house so presumably a bit more tricky, but we were very pleased. In particular the tradies were great - their work was of high quality with good attention to finish. And I'd have hated to have to project manage everything which would have meant handling long lead times for the trades and the impossibility of getting them to come to fit in with each other quickly
Only thing was that the communication wasn't always the best when there were any holdups, but i'd know what to be aware of another time.

"I tried to employ bathroom direct for a shower installation. On giving dimensions of the shower a few months back they said it couldn't be done. Then after finally coming to inspect said it could be done. Confirming a quote was very difficult let alone trying to organise an installation date, as they never returned my calls and it took quite a few emails to hear anything back. Date for installation was finally agreed then postponed. Asked them to send through an invoice for a deposit that was required before work commenced - Never got one. All very disorganized so ended up going with someone else unfortunately."

"We had a full bathroom renovation done. The result looks great and the work was completed on time. I was impressed with the level of care taken to tidy up each night. The plumber made a minor mistake, but this was fixed as soon as I noticed it."

"I employed Bathroom Direct Porirua to reline my shower, and plumb the shower cold water from the mains (instead of the tank in the roof) to give it a bit more pressure.
The sub-contractors who refitted the shower box did a professional, tidy job which I am very pleased with.
However, the plumber took it upon himself to feed ALL the cold water taps in the house from the mains instead of just the shower as was agreed to and quoted for. Being that the various fittings around the house were never designed to cope with the increased water pressure this resulted in the laundry being flooded when too much water was forced through the washing machine, and when turning on various taps in the house the pipes would rattle and shake and make a terrible noise.

When I contacted Bathroom Direct about this, the Sales Manager Jeff informed me that the plumber "...thought he was doing you a favor by putting it all onto mains, but as often happens it back fired",

and when we discussed remedying the problem by either putting flow restrictors in place or putting things back to the way they were before, Jeff asked me "Do you want our plumber to do this for you and charge you direct or do you have your own plumber."

I politely informed Jeff that I would not be paying anything more to remedy the problem that the plumber had caused by acting outside the scope of the agreed work order, and that Bathroom Direct and it's sub-contractor should be liable for the repairs. To be fair, this was fixed the next day.

I've got to say that I was absolutely stunned by this experience. I'm not a plumber, but even I can understand that low pressure fittings aren't built to cope with high pressure water. I was amazed when Jeff commented that it "often backfires", but yet Bathroom Direct continue to use this plumber who clearly doesn't understand his craft. And then to make matters worse, Jeff suggesting that I was liable for the extra cost for repair resulting from unsanctioned work by the sub-contractor is quite simply the worst customer service that I've ever experienced.

In the end, the job was done to my specifications, but the attitude of Bathroom Direct and the sub-contractor astounded me.

Message to Bathroom Direct: You are accountable for the actions of your sub-contractors. Their mistakes are your responsibility. You have to wear the cost of fixing their mistakes, not try to pass it on to the customer.

"Bathroom Direct did a full and professional job on our new bathroom. When through a manufactoring fault a shower rose broke flooding our house, they were promptly on the scene. The rose was repaired by our insurers plumber, but Bathroom Direct were unhappy with this and removed the unit to replace it with a new unit to ensure it didnt happen again. They also after a quick phone call decided to pay my insurance excess as they felt I should not be out of pocket. Their service was both professional and ethical. I was impressed that when I asked for opur excess to be paid that the owner himself spoke to me and readily agreed to my request"

"We had the mis-fortune of selecting Bathroom Direct Porirua for our Bathroom renovation. We were quoted 2 to 3 weeks, with shower being available for use after 3 days. It was over two weeks before shower facilities were available. The job took well over 4 weeks to complete with damage to our existing walls. No communication from the project manager, poor plastering and paint job and contractors leaving the property with the house left wide open for intruders. Small things like taps that weren\'t level, using white sealer instead of clear. The biggest botch was the paint job which we\'re still not happy with (a home DIYer could have done a better job). Worst of all they don\'t follow their own terms and conditions about payment and threaten debt collection if you don\'t pay BEFORE the written due date. Any written complaints are mostly ignored and getting to speak to someone whom is actually in charge is near impossible. I would not recommend this outfit to anyone who is considering a new bathroom due to poor project management and poor workmanship by the subcontractors they hire. The only good job was done by the Tiler.

Just to add to my above comments. We\'ve been informed the painter/plasterer used by Bathroom Direct is NOT a master painter. The project manager and indeed Bathroom Direct assured us they used registered master painters/builders etc. For all we know the Builder, Plumber and Electrician may not be registered either. Poor Effort!
