We accepted a quotation to remove existing paving (including steps) from Bedrock Pavers.
We had read the reviews online and only one came back as a warning, so we accepted the quotation.
We now realise that the poor review was after the business had been sold to the present operator.
Turns out that the negative review was to mirror our experience. Our two to three… week job took some nine months – granted the sealing could not be carried out due to the colder winter weather but they had not completed the job nor remedied the list of problems so that once better weather arrived they could quickly seal the concrete. The experience was dreadful.
For the first onsite meeting the Bedrock crew, the plumber and ourselves were present, Ned was late – reason, traffic.
We had been waiting 22 years to replace our paths and steps and I personally was very excited to finally have our watering system placed under the path, removing my jerry-rigged trip hazard. I returned home the day of the concrete pour to find out that they had forgotten to lay the tube before pouring the concrete. I had even provided the tubing for them to lay.
Water pools on the landing outside a door, and due to the incorrect fall water pools in the corner of the steps against the concrete wall. They widened a portion of the path (without any communication with us) and then charged for the extra 5m of concrete. The wider path then resulted in one of the two in-ground gutters being too short to cover the full width of the path, this means some of the surface water now misses the drain. There was excessive pebble loss when they waterblasted to expose the aggregate.
Communication was dreadful with a series of phone calls, texts and emails never returned. Arranged meetings and time taken of work to be on site but Ned failing to show. This went on for months.
Six months after the initial pour and still waiting for rectification of some work, email communication with the office recommenced however getting anyone to site was hopeless. Again the months ticked by. A couple of small jobs were completed to try to rectify the problems but then they would disappear again.
Eventually we went to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau to seek a way forward. We followed their advice and threatened arbitration. After a further two weeks we had action.
In the end we were so disheartened that we just wanted the concrete sealed and for them to be off site.
The concrete was poured on two separate days due to the size of the driveway. The work was done quickly and efficiently but the second day was the start of a southerly and was cold and drizzled all day.
In hindsight the second pour probably should have… been delayed for a day with better weather. For the first month the driveway was very blotchy and didn't look great which we were told would fade as it set (e,g. within the first month). We trusted Ned and paid the full amount.
6 months down the track and it was still blotchy everywhere and some areas of the driveway had dusting (areas you could rub the surface with your finger and the concrete would come away as dust).
From here the experience was very poor. I tried emailing Ned politely for 4 weeks to find out how much of a problem it was and just got ignored. I started ringing him and he didn't really want to know about it or to come out to visit it. After a number of phone calls and almost 2 months he said he had come out to see it (while I was in the house but couldn't talk to me because he was on the phone) and couldn't see the dusting and he could show me photos of other blotchy driveways if I wanted.
Eventually I got him to come out and look at it and talk to me about it. He was not very happy, didn't want to look at it and didn't provide any constructive feedback. I was told the concrete people may have put the wrong amount of additive into the mix for the weather. So it seems if we had delayed the pour for better weather we probably wouldn't have any of these issues.
In the end I gave up. Our driveway has faded after a year so that the blotchiness is still there but now less noticeable. I am still unsure if the dusting will have an effect on the lifespan of the concrete, we have noticed that moss/lichen grows around the blotchy areas probably because it is more porous.
Thank you Bedrock pavers I couldn't be happier with your work!!
"The job was done quickly and professionally with great attention to detail and we are extremely happy with the result.
The guys cleaned up afterwards wonderfully and were easy to deal with the whole job. I have no hesitation in recommending Nick and his team to anyone who needs a quality job done for a reasonable price.
I would use them again without reservation

"Result: great service, fair price for both parties, clear and timely communication, great engagement, site left tidy afterwards ... all of which all resulted in a great job.
Would definitely use again and recommend without reservation to others.
