"Cambridge Homes was hands down the best building company we have dealt with.
The fact that they have been around for 20 years speaks volumes!
Their communication was amazing and they genuinely cared about how we felt during the build.
If you were to ask me if I’d build with them again my answer is YES, and that should say it all.

"Unfortunately I would have to say my experience with Cambridge Homes has not been a positive one. I signed with Cambridge Homes with the understanding they are a professional company and as they state “we are with you all the way”, no surprises and all that.

Of course being that they were $30,000 more than the quotes from three other building companies I expected a quality job.

I would like to point out that I have spent over 26 years in the construction industry working on commercial buildings in the wellington area, I have an idea of what quality workmanship means. I would expect a qualified builder to do a quality job and at least as good as the work I have completed.

The build started with a shock of the excavation being four times the P C sum, let me state that a P C sum is basically an estimate and should be within 15% of the estimated price according the consumers guaranties act. Ours came out at approximately 400% over the initial estimate.

First they worked out the foot print of the house on a different house size, second they neglected to notice that every other house in the street has a retaining wall.

They worked out the amount of fill to be 300mm it took 600mm, they say they did core samples before excavation and then blamed the council for the extra fill.

Not sure why they didn’t use a inclinometer to at least get an idea of the slope. There was 2m of fall on the section, there’s no way 300mm of dig out would work on a section for the building platform of the house we built.

When the framing was put up. They then proceeded to re frame for a larger window which was the incorrect size. They then rectified this after the outside of the house was bricked and the inside bathroom was completed Also they refused to admit they had made a mistake until I pointed out they had reframed for the incorrect window size.

This was Carters fault the window makers fault, every ones fault but theirs.

Then we spent many visits to the site trying to get the doors installed level, the slider installed correctly, the architraves installed correctly, and the ceiling levelled in the lounge. The house is still not acceptable but we need to move in, we have lost three tenants because of the three months extra build time so far, unfortunately the people looking for accommodation could not wait.

When we wanted to look through the house prior to painting to see if the shoddy workmanship had been fixed, we were refused entry; we were treated unacceptably, and condescendingly.

We have a hole in the path that they had to fill, nothing major but just another mistake.

When ever there was a mistake and it was pointed out it was always the other persons fault, or we never said that, always someone else’s fault.

Now the house finally got its CCC but they have to change the bathroom vanity because they installed the wrong colour vanity. More waiting because of their mistakes.

Cambridge Homes have spent the last three months rectifying there mistakes and dragging out the build, it’s still not completed.

"Poor Communication after signing. Dispute over electrical. PC sums all inaccurate. On-going issues mainly due to lack of supervision on site. Overall a nightmare - company has name change - same people. Look forward to remedial work being finished and getting on with life but this build just drags on. If I had known others were having issues, as I discovered during the build would never have gone with this company"

"We have previously built a new home with Cambridge Homes and returned to them without any hesitation to build for us again, after having had such a positive experience. We were extremely pleased with the quality and workmanship and found their service to be fantastic. Friendly, helpful and very professional. Our present building project with Cambridge Homes is well underway and we are having just as positive an experience this time around. We Highly Recommend this company to anyone. "
