"We were told our refurbishment could be done in the one week we were overseas. The day before we flew out we were informed that there had been a delay with ordering cabinets. Kurt took over at this point to try and push the time frame, however it took 7 weeks to have our kitchen completed. 3 attempts to get one set of doors correct. Poor communication, with staff turning up to our house without phoning. An unexpected visit scared the living daylights out of me when a man knocked once and then entered the house. We were asked to leave work by the tiller, as he did not know what the job entailed and had not been given the key to our house. Dishwasher not delivered as promised because the staff member did not have our key because another staff member has taken our key home with him.

Our kitchen looks great, but what a stressful process!

"I was very impressed by the professionalism and quality of work by this company. They set high standards for themselves and work hard to meet them. I ordered some custom cabinetry which was by any standards very tricky to produce. Their patience through all of this was appreciated. From the initial meeting to the final install the team accommodated all of my requests. Everyone whom I had dealings with were friendly and knowledgeable. The precision of the work was outstanding. Accurate down to the last millimeter. I would not hesitate to recommend this company for all your cabinetry needs and I intend to be a repeat customer."

"From the first meeting with Jordan we were impressed by the efficiency and attention to customer needs. Once the install began we were amazed at the smooth co-ordination between installer and other tradesmen required to complete the work. Amanda was the ultimate in organisation of tradespeople and supplies and just keeping on top of everything. Any issue was dealt with immediately and resolved. The installers were so considerate and co-operative it made living without a kitchen for a couple of weeks bearable. Thanks to her and her team our kitchen was fully functional just in time for Christmas. Huge thank you to all of you."

"Suzi Boyle is a STAR!! ... and not just in kitchen design! She is a very caring individual whose compassion for people goes way beyond pure business. I've known Suzi for a very long time. After a wee hiccup .. I commissioned Suzi, Kurt, Amanda and all their crew to re-design and build me a new kitchen. Totally impressed and am very, very happy. They replaced a vastly out-dated and deteriorating 80's kitchen. What I have now is modern, up-to-date chic, simple, effective and sleek that more than meets my needs and my eye for design. Nothing was an issue or a problem. All their crew were simply on to it and amazing. If an issue arose, and there weren't many, it was attended to with speed and efficiency. The design was right. Suzi has no hesitation in telling you if she does not think something is correct. I really appreciated that and learned fast to go with her expert sense for detail. I have no complaints at all. Similarly, Kurt, Amanda, Josh and everyone who works for them have the same values, particularly the regular check-ins to see how things were going, taking care of customer satisfaction. However, their personal touch was really important and they made sure this was not just about kitchen design, but that the process also focussed on developing genuine, interpersonal relationships with meaning. Clearly, this is important for their own experience, and the value of the work that they do and believe in.

I have no hesitation in recommending Suzi, Kurt, Amanda and all their crew from the Kitchen Studio now based in Newmarket.

    Cheers, Paul

"Unfortunately I cannot recommend this company. Basically it is the McDonalds of the kitchen installation business; plain, rushed, and the finished product looks nothing like the advertising. On top of that they are hugely overpriced for their skill level. These people are not joiners or cabinet makers. The staff I dealt with (and there was quite a few) struggled to put together a basic kit set kitchen. They lacked knowledge, skill and pride in their work.
I used Kitchen Studio Greenlane/Newmarket. But Manukau and East Tamaki are parts of the same business owned by Kurt and Amanda. The quote from this company was significantly more than some other quotes. I was naively hopeful that the extra money would ensure skilled workmanship and a straightforward project. The first sign of the problems to come were that Kurt’s plans we never correct each time we visited them and were still not correct upon signing up. I understand that the cabinet manufacturer corrected the mistakes.

The price was just under $30,000. (we already had all appliances etc)

A point here - be very careful - this company expects half payment on signing and then the full balance on delivery of the kitchen. This is the day they drop the packages off - not the completion date. This is a trap. Do not sign any such contract! I held back $5,000. If you go with this company make sure you hold back more than this amount this insurance.

I’ll be blunt with what occurred over the next 6 months.

The early tradesmen recommended by Kurt were rough or ill prepared and lacked communication about arrival times. These people remarked that it was always chaos for them dealing with Kitchen Studios. The painters were okay.

The kitchen install date of 13 April 2015 passed. The installers failed totally to inform us about what time we should expect them on the later install date, or if that date was actually to be adhered to. This was an ongoing issue that wasted our time. Because of this practice, we started leaving a key out so that access could be gained when we were not home. This led to the bench top templater setting off our burglar alarm without anyone phoning to inform us of his arrival. This also happened on another occasion when an installer arrived unannounced on a Friday when we were not aware any work was being done that day.

Rubbish was left piled up on site and never collected as we were told it would be. This was their rubbish, not ours. The rubbish consisted of cardboard packing, plastic packing, MDF offcuts and other waste, sawdust, food scraps, screws and fixings all roughly dumped in boxes in a mixed pile on the balcony in view of neighbours and open to the weather. I eventually sorted it all for recycling and waste myself to my disgust and then disposed of it. (Kurt later told us that rubbish was not their problem). The kitchen install area was left unswept at the end of a couple of days. One day I swept up a mound the size of a large mixing bowl that was all sawdust, small offcuts and sharp screws. This in an area open to our 2 year old child to run through.

The original two installers were reduced to one because of a death in the family as I understand. The remaining installer appeared to be struggling with the project on his own and out of his depth. Several poor mistakes were made at this time because there was no supervision. James then finished the project over a couple of days. On his ‘completion’ and imminent departure I asked him if the kitchen was now finished. His reply was, “I hope so”. This sentence basically sums up the attitude of the installers that I dealt with in this business. I expected that this person would have checked his work. It was clear he had not. I then kind-of expected that someone else would be in touch to inspect the Kitchen. After a delay the PA called to book an appointment for Kurt to visit. I assumed that this was the inspection I had been waiting for.

Short isolated 1.2m bench top bends under a kettle of water. The substrate under this does not span the width and no other strengthening was provided to offset this problem.

There was a deep gauge in the bench top that occurred very soon after install of the top or at time of install of the top. Unknown cause. (Bench top person rude to my wife, Jo, on return to complete this.)

Extractor fan cutouts were abysmal. They were rough and too small. 3 metres of ducting was therefore just left shoved up in the ceiling instead of being pulled through and trimmed. The ducting was also not fastened onto the fan top. It was obvious to anyone that opened the cupboard door. I re-cut and fixed this issue myself immediately.

Toe kick under dish drawer was not trimmed to the floor and stopped the dish drawer from opening more than half way. I re-cut this myself.

Top cupboards had no limiters and so struck the ceiling.

Pantry door had no limiter and so struck the oven doors.

Sharp edge left on aluminium door slide where it was cut to length.

Upper cupboards both end panels had piece tacked on top to reach ceiling instead of being full height panels. This was perhaps the most obvious and worst piece of workmanship. It was ugly and cheap. One of these tacked on pieces just pushed in with a finger push.

Terrible 10mm gap at end of upper cupboards left un-scribed or otherwise filled in any way

Main verticle panel at fridge-end of kitchen poorly scribed to wall.

Exposed MDF edges not sealed in any way and will obviously swell when wet. Yet I had stipulated that I expected this to be done.

Scratched panels and panel edges from supplier - ongoing problem.

    Door panels not lining up.

    Several other issues.

24 May. Kurt visited but didn’t actually inspect anything. So we ran off the list of problems, gave him the list, and he did not take it very well. That was pretty much the last contact from him.

26 May. The accountant sends invoice for remaining $5,000 by email. Clearly kitchen is not complete. A very rude thing to do.

Several more problems were discovered over the weeks.

7 June. Work done to remedy problems - but the lack of knowledge, skill and will to do the job right was now becoming very obvious. The Kitchen looked cheap and was roughly installed. Gap filler was used to hide poor scribing and workmanship. Instead of fixing the end panels with ones that met the ceiling the extension piece was just secured back in place. The gaps to the ceiling were not filled as they should have been.

2 July. A more senior installer attended to fix these problems. He fixed the issues but left behind damage to the walls and new haphazard gap filler smudges. I fixed this up myself as I was sick of their rubbish work. During this visit my wife and I both mentioned that we were still waiting on the bendy bench top.

3 July. Accountant sends invoice for outstanding $5,000 by email. At this point they were just making me angry. It is plainly obvious that no-one in this company has a check sheet of outstanding work to complete. This is simple stuff.

Josh rang. promised to sort the bendy bench top problem out. Nothing further heard.

31 July. Accountant phones to ask for $5,000. Again seems to be unaware that the kitchen is not finished. Tells me that the instruction has come from Kurt and Amanda. I exchange a few ‘****ed-off’ emails with the accountant. I got a lecture in how I don’t take lifes small problems very well! Silence from the business owners - as appears normal. I suggested a few times that decent business owner would have stepped in to sort this out by now.

10 August. Still no word on bench top. I cancelled the contract and payed the balance - minus a meagre $1,000 offered as compensation for me to complete the work myself. No contact from the owner. No acknowledgement or apology.

October. Corner rotating cupboard doors no-longer turn smoothly. I discover that the unit was never fixed up to the bench top as it should have been and it has now slipped. Complain. Brett attempts to fix. Acknowledges that screwing into honeycomb substrate won’t hold. I suggest that he needs to do the job properly. He puts two more screws into the same honeycomb! No attempt to use another fixing method. A continuation of poor knowledge, skills and pride. A phone compliant to the owner, Kurt finally dragged a mediocre apology out of him - the standard one, “I’m sorry we could not meet your expectations”.

My advice after this experience; Go elsewhere. For the same money you will get far better workmanship and a better experience from a smaller skilled kitchen installer. You can get this low level of workmanship elsewhere at half the price.
    Amanda & Kurt responded:
"For any business having a job turn sour is never the intention nor the desired outcome. I could take the time here to address each point that nick has made valid or otherwise, however, I do not see this adding any value for future customers as his is not the normal experience our clients have when dealing with us. This is confirmed by the other reviews posed on this site. In the above situation there were many moments that indicated the client and our business were not a good fit and we should have walked away before the job even began. So much time was already invested by both parties so we pushed on. The result being no one involved had a good experience. To anyone reading this I encourage you to look at our website or visit us in our showroom and form your own opinion of our services. Kurt "

"We had used Kitchen Studios before and were very pleased so did not hesitate to use them again. I can't praise them enough. They organised everything, installers, plumber, electrician, tiler and floor layers and everything flowed very smoothly. They started exactly on time and finished in seven working days. Nothing was too much trouble for them and Susie was again a great person to deal with. Her experience in kitchen design was invaluable. We love our new kitchen ."

"Kurt and Amanda provided a highly professional and personable service when I was looking for a kitchen for my renovations. They were initially recommended by a friend (although I did go see other kitchen places to do my research) but I soon found them to be the best in terms of customer service, idea generation and working to your budget and requirements. They were also very personable, professional and engaged throughout the consultation process which was very different to the other kitchen places I went to. They were always willing to go out of their way to provide a very quick and polished service (working to my time and busy schedule). The designs they came up for me was excellent, coming up with options I had not thought of and using space and designs that were practical and innovative (although I did have my doubts when looking at the plans, the end result was stunning and I was very impressed- Trust Kurt). The implementation of the kitchen was also highly professional and Josh, Lee, and his team was efficient and went the extra mile (even during the Christmas rush - not a good time for renovations- kitchen studio was the only service that you knew did their best to accomodate your needs). I recommend the Kitchen Studio team highly and cannot say enough good things about the team that installed the kitchen. The follow up was also very professional and the personal service meant that any questions I had about every step or every technical detail was answered. I did not feel like I was left on my own to deal with contractors or with my product after paying. They checked in every step of the renovations. Having experienced this business service, I don't think I would go anywhere else to get my kitchens done."

They visited our apartment twice during preparation of their recommended design.
We agreed the project in November and the project started on time on 10 December.
On-site meeting of Kitchen Studio project manager with the builder, plumber and electrician to agree what needed to be done by who, and in what sequence.
Job 95% complete before Xmas - just the LED lights outstanding (installed early January).

I would not hesitate to use Kitchen Studio again.

"I was not surprised to see this post, Kitchen Studio never actually installed a kitchen for Mr Nobel. The initial measure was done and a second appointment to review the design concept was booked in. Unfortunately a mistake was made in Google calendar and the appointment was accidently placed on the wrong night resulting in the appointment being overlooked. Both our Store manager, and the person responsible for the mistake Spoke to Mrs Nobel and apologised for the misunderstanding. this was not accepted without a string of heated words. I also spoke to Mrs Nobel and Stated that we were sorry for the misunderstanding and asked could we reappoint to see them They declined and took to writing on this forum I wish then well with there renovation project. "The Kitchen Studio team were great from my first contact through to the completed project. I had waited a long time to organise a new kitchen as I was overwhelmed with the process I talked to a few different kitchen companies and felt no better about starting the project. I popped into the Kitchen Studio showroom in Manukau and from that point forward the whole process was explained clearly, and managed on my behalf. I have no design abilities so I leaned heavily on Kurt & Amanda to put forward plans for me to consider. The installer, plumber & electrtician involved in the project were all very professional and worked quickly together. The finished job is excellent and I am absolutely delighted with the result. I couldn't recoemmend this company highly enough."

"Absolutely amazing service, advice, work, and finished project - we are thrilled with our new kitchen! Kurt and Amanda are lovely smart people who advised us well and were friendly and professional throughout. When something went wrong (which delayed our project), they fixed it quickly and without question. We made contact with them to get estimate to compare to DIY flatpack and their quote was only 10% higher, for a better product in any colour *fully installed*. No brainer. They came to our house and offered suggestions for our renovations which have hugely improved our final look and made best use of our money. They really know their products and were able to quickly price appliances and upgrades. Everything happened when they said it would. I highly recommend these two."

"Amanda and Kurt did everything right:
    1. Their design was excellent, and resulted in us going with them simply because it was so good and their price was also competitive. They thought of lots of little things, like where to hide the microwave, how to maximise the space without spending a fortune and asked us about our cooking so they could work out the best "flow" for us.
    2. They turned up when they said they would. They provided design info to our architect. They followed us up by phone when WE were slack.

    3. They helped us with the overall look by taking into account the style of our house, and recommending a cheaper cupboard product because it would be hardier with our small children - they could have sold us the more expensive one that we were looking at but choose service over fast cash.

    4. After sales service has been second to none. Want to change your sink a week before the kitchen goes in? No problem. Forgot to talk to the builder about ducting for the rangehood? No problem, they adjusted the cabinetry height so we could hide it in there.

Client forgot to mention needing a panel for their semi-hidden dishwasher, no problem, one sourced and installed after the kitchen had already been supplied and paid for. Many would say "not my problem" by that point!

They even came over with a lovely bottle of wine to check it all over themselves, to make sure all was as it should be.

There is more I could say - but I will leave it with - COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! Thanks

"After significant research I called for quotations from several companies, including Kitchen Studio Greenlane, to provide me a kitchen refurbishment solution. Kitchen Studio's pre-sale presentation and consequent project deliverables guarantee enabled me to make an easy decision to award them the project.
They delivered on all they said they would, managed their suppliers/contractors professionally who met all deadlines both in time and quality.
All team members were committed to delivering a high quality product and that is what I've got - a great new kitchen!

Kurt and Amanda assumed the responsibility to project manage the install and they certainly got it right! I would recommend their involvement to anyone considering a similar project to mine.

"We called Kitchen Studio Greenlane for our kitchen upgrade (ie. rebuild) having previously used them for another successful project around 15 yrs ago. Kurt & Amanda were brilliant to deal with from start to finish. Their depth of experience in kitchen design shines through and they bounce off each other, giving us a range of new ideas and options to consider along with clear guidance where needed. After several fun meetings finalising the design, the build/ installation went ahead as scheduled and without a hitch. Their installation team are first class along with their recommended trades (plumber, sparky, builder) who collectively did a great job creating our dream kitchen.

So in summary thanks to Kurt & Amanda we had a great all round experience - they're an awesome team!

"Amanda and Kurt have been an absolute pleasure to deal with. From the very start with the on-site consultation they provided valuable advice that initially took us outside our comfort zone but we're glad to have been guided by their expertise and the fact that they were able to think beyond the limits of the kitchen area really made a difference in the final result.

The various workmen we had throughout the project were extremely professional. A good team and they choose good suppliers.

I personally recommend this particular Kitchen Studio franchise to anyone in the market for a kitchen makeover.

(As an aside, I never give out 100% as a matter of principal and have struggled to find an area to mark them down on)

"Kurt and Amanda provide a great double act for the design and detailing aspect of the initial stages of the project, each of them know their strengths and their combined skills make for a strong team. Throughout the installation phase they were on site every day to make sure everything was in order. They have also been equally attentive after the job has been completed.

When their crew arrived to actually remove the old kitchen and install the new one, they were again a great blend of complimentary skills. Each individual on the team took pride in their work. Notably was Chris the main fitter on our job who spent ages on one set of doors fitting and re-fitting the door to get it just right, he evidently takes great pride in his work and wants the final product to be perfect, so we as a client could not be happier.

Of the other trades, Leo the electrician was attentive, accurate and again wanted to produce perfect results. The 4.4m LED light strip he installed under the bench top is perfect, it needs to be as the bench top reflects it and any error would be immediately obvious.

Over all a thoroughly professional team who provide a thorough, attentive and perfectionist approach to their work individually.

"Choosing a kitchen designer can seem like a lottery. After weeks of research, I opted for Kurt and Amanda of Kitchen Studio Greenlane. It was an excellent decision!

Kurt and Amanda greatly impressed me with their energy, ideas, clear thinking, practical advice, and their ability to listen to my wishes and incorporate them into the final plans. They are both extremely personable and were easy to deal with. Throughout the project management and installation period they were always accessible and communication between them, their installers and me was excellent.

The new kitchen I now have is fabulous – and, amazingly, was kept within my budget.

For the risk-adverse, a big plus in using Kitchen Studio is that they also offer a Deposit Guarantee.

Kurt and Amanda took away much of my anticipated stress that comes with planning and installing a new kitchen. I highly recommend them to anyone embarking on a new or renovated kitchen.

"I have used Kurt Boyle and the team at Kitchen Studio three times over. I'm not an idiot - if I wasn't getting great quality and service I would have gone elsewhere. Kitchens are important to me because if they don't work they just irritate me immensely. One of the kitchens I had re-designed had a grill door arrangement that meant you couldn't open the fridge! That's why I was so delighted when Kurt came up with a vastly better design. Using Kitchen Studio has been wonderful. I have found them helpful and reliable. Kurt really listens to what I am trying to achieve in my kitchen and makes sure the kitchen fits my brief. The last kitchen I had done was a huge job for my own parents and there was no way I would have let tradesmen into my parents home if I didn't have 100% confidence that they could do the job efficiently and with minimum stress to my parent's routines. When Kitchen Studio finished the project they presented the kitchen to my Mum like a brand new show kitchen. She was so happy. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. And yes if for any reason I needed another kitchen in the future I would certainly use them again."

"We were so absolutely delighted with our kitchen and the professionalism of all those included in its production that we sent photos and a statement of appreciation to Kitchen Studio Head Office in Christchurch. We are reeling in disbelief at the statements made by Seriously ****ed Off and Sarah - are we talking about the same firm We have found Suzanne and Kurt and all other staff we dealt with at Kitchen Studio Greenlane to be unfailingly receptive and warm in their dealings with us and we would recommend this firm to anyone wanting top quality materials and workmanship. We see our kitchen as tailor-made for our needs and reflecting clever design and sound product knowledge. We thank you, Kitchen Studio Greenlane."

"I couldn't believe it when I saw someone else had already listed these guys here with a similarly bad opinion.

It took 12 weeks for this company to come and complete our project; during this time we had virtually no unprompted communication from the so called project manager, Gordon, and when the matter was raised with the franchise owner, Sue Boyle, i was subjected to serious bullying intimidation tactics.

The problem with this company is they believe they can do no wrong - they may be NZ's number one Kitchen Studio franchise, but just remember this relates to SALES NOT SERVICE or quality of delivery.

An absolute rip off. We could have got better from designing our own kitchen and asking Placemakers to build the cabinets.
