"I had an enormous water bill and after verifying the meter was ticking over rapidly at the main even tho no water being used in the house called Maber Plumbing. He replaced a valve in the basement and one in hot water cupboard. He also bought an elbow joint and fixed my spouting. He looked at all plumbing in the house and saw a small leakage in gutter pipe which he assumed was the problem even though I pointed out it appeared too small to create such a high bill. He did about two hours work and presented me with a bill for $ 689.50, not itemised, which I foolishly accepted and paid. I suddenly had a nagging suspicion and went to meter and check and once again it was racing away with no water being used. When I rang Maber and told him he did not even check he had fixed the problem - his answer was 'oh yeh'. I told my son who was incensed and he phoned Maber that he wanted an itemised bill emailed to me and provided him with the address - he has just ignored this. I have since called in another plumber who diagnosed the problem straight away by doing a check to see if it was inside or out (which Maber had not done). Gave me a quote, and advised what they would do - went off and brought in a digger and set in the new pipe and worked all afternoon till about 5pm and did an immaculate job and though they worked more than twice the hours of Maber, their complete bill was only $500.00 - Compared to Maber's for $689.50. Maber took advantage of an elderly person, was un -ethical and did an extremely unprofessional job. I would not like to think of some other vulnerable person being ripped off in such a fashion."

"Graham came out to fix a leak in our toilet, he replaced a "leaking pan coupling" (according to his invoice). A couple of weeks later we noticed our toilet wasn't flushing properly. Turned out the pipe outside our house had cracked and broken. We had raw sewerage being dumped into our garden.
We called him back to fix the problem and he said someone (not him) had probably stood on the pipe. That is an extremely unlikely scenario for a few reasons - 1. the pipe is underneath a window which can't be seen through and is never open 2. we live in the country and don't have issues with people wandering on our property 3. any tradesmen we have had on site haven't needed to work near the pipe and 4. we haven't been near the pipe for any reason. We put it to him that it's more likely he cracked the pipe when he did his prior work on the toilet, but he refused to see it that way. He believed it was more likely someone tried to 'shimmy up the pipe'. On a one storey home, that seems extremely far fetched. He had to come back to our house again today because the rubber sleeve was leaking water. He's used sealant on it to stop the leak but what concerns me the most is the weird angle that the pipe is on. We won't use this guy again as we don't believe we can trust him for any further work.

"Do not use this plumber or you will regret it like we have! He wore his workboots through our house and managed to get oil and dog doo all through our carpet. He then cracked our entire wall in our family room which now has massive holes & cracks in the wall. He then walked off the job as it got too hard after he managed to completely stuff it up. The builder said he'd never met a plumber like this before. The next plumber that came to repair all his mistakes could not beleive the state he left our house and bathroom in. Ths plumber cost us $2,000 in damages to our house and work needed to fix his mistakes. He doesn't even seem sorry or care about this. After walking off the job and not communicating this to us, he left a bill for $280 in our letterbox. We told he we wouldn't be paying this until he fixed the damage at our home. So he got a friend to pretend he was from Baycorp and call us to give us a scare. Very dodgey, definetely a cowboy!"
