Our project - 1910 Mt Eden Bungalow.

As is the case for many renovation projects, our scope initially started as kitchen and bathroom refresh to allow for our property as a first time rental. This changed to a more significant build once we started pulling things apart and explored the potential with the team at Madison Building.

Our property a 1910 bungalow, had all the challenges a home of this age has (it was… cold, draught, had rotten timbers, doors and windows requiring replacement, a leaky roof, and nothing plumb), in short in need of a lot of TLC.

Following initial discussions with Nick we quickly managed to pull together a project document, detailing each part of the renovation, dependencies and rough timings/costings. From the get go we were clear on what we wanted as an outcome of the renovation (initially a rental, that in future we could move into if desired) so that helped keep the focus on what was most important for us and the level of work we required. We knew we needed a builder that shared a passion for homes of this era and that they wouldn't be deterred with the work involved once they got underway.

We worked closely with Nick and drew heavily on his expertise to stage the project and identify all the other trades that would be required. Nick made it super easy lending his expertise allowing myself to seamlessly manage and bring in other trades into our project as needed. Nick and his team were flexible enough to work on other areas while trades did their part but were always available for advise or support when these additional trades required it.

Through any building project the prerequisite is the builders expertise in the nature of the job at hand but just as importantly (and often overlooked by many who go for the cheapest option) the team you partner with must be clear in their communication. In this area I feel Nick and his team excel and this easily sets Madison Building apart from other building companies. Right from the onset and through each stage of the project Nick's communication has been clear and concise. My expectations were clearly managed (like everyone I wanted this renovation done and done yesterday) but Nick through open and honest communication shared findings quickly and ensured surprises were kept to a minimum. We remained one step ahead allowing for a better planned project and an end result we are definitely proud of.
