    "I didn't give permission to Nick, the roofing manager to carry-on work on my site for plumbing issue but he did. He made false statement saying I've giving him the permission, and charging me $300ish for it.

    I also asked him a favor to dig a 0.2m thin layer of soil and then send me the foundation photo which he didn't put the soil back. He now charge me for site visitation and a hour of work.

    "After using this company for many years, previously without fault, we were very disappointed with their service for the last job which was far more substantial in both size and cost. We requested a quote to replace all our cold water piping (after a leak caused by notoriously faulty Dux pipe from the 80s). The job was quoted as a 2 plumber 3 day job. We paid the 50% deposit requested and the job began the next week. The job took 16 days over the next 3 weeks , usually with one plumber on site - frequently he was called away to other jobs or did not arrive and I was often informed of his absence only after phoning the office to enquire. When the final invoice arrived it was >20% above the original quote. Understandably the initial quote stated that it was an approximation but there was no itemisation of time and materials on which the extra costs were based, only a billed amount. Communication by email and letter on numerous occasions requesting an itemised invoice, even those addressed to Mr McDermond himself, has yielded no communication in response. The only response has been overdue payment invoices. The workmanship and advice performed by Charles seems sound, but we will no longer be recommending or using this company."

    "I spoke to some one in the office who turns out not to be a plumber A sales guy Told him what I wanted a insinkerator removed and piping put in and the washing machine was leaking he quoted me $180 .00 for one hours work and the parts but wasn't sure on washing machine part might be $50 or so depending what was wrong He would have all the parts with him Plumber turned up 1/2 hour late and no parts wasn't sure what the job was so had to get the parts and said he wouldn't charge me for that time My toilet system also needed something replaced so I knew that would be extra only had a problem a couple of days before Took him 2 hours was continuously answering phone calls thru out The bill arrives a week later and one week to pay Alot more than expected Labour 1.50 what ever that means a callout fee of $75 and consumables of $20.00 So what I thought would be around the $300 mark became $502.30 He did a good job and said the office guy always does this they turn up for jobs and they don't have the right equipment and the guy has no idea of time it takes to fix things So communication problems there I had already got the washing machine guy in as I was told that wasn't a plumbers job so wasted $92.00 on him 2pipes needed to be clamped back together they go inside each other and the seal had come of hence the leak Liam was friendly Didn't introduce himself Did have ID and van had ID Happy with out come just not with the communication of having no parts didn't know why he was here and that bill is so high"

    "Terrible experience. DO NOT Recommend. UNRELIABLE . Very poor communication. Very slow to return phone calls and needed chasing on several occasions to get a tradesman to attend.. Eventually sent round a 'leak detection' person who did not find my leak and did not solve my problem but they still expect THEIR INVOICE TO BE PAID. They did not followup after their 'expert' attended and I was left wondering what was to happen next. More phone calls etc etc. . A very frustrating experience."

    "This has been the worse experience ever. I called these guys at 11pm on Friday night - a guy called Gareth came & immediately sighed when he came in, clearly did not want to be there. He stayed for one hour to try to find the fault & he advised that it was a water care problem - water meter was leaking. Was not followed up at all by anyone & in the end I had to get another plumber in to do the job & repair it - it was water leaking from galvanised pipe in front of house! Gareth was hopeless. These guys at McDermond's have not phoned me back - I have phoned 3 times but they were quick to take the money off my credit card & send copy of the invoice in the mail - $552! They charged more to do nothing than the actual plumber has charged to fix the problem & stop the leak! This is the worse ever experience & beware of these guys - not only did the do a poor job (& they were recommended which I have passed word about my experience) - but NO ONE has bothered to follow this up."

    "I was very let down by McDermond. A plumber was sent to my place early one morning, he was 15 mins late and the company called to say he would be at my place shortly. 45 mins later I was still waiting with no phone call from the company, and I had no time left and had to leave for work, very late! Another day I left work early to meet a plumber who came to fix my tap, but he had the wrong tap, he blamed the office person and she blamed him. One of the plumbers charged me for the time he was sitting in his van outside my place after he'd finished my job. I argued black and blue with Sarah the office person. She would not give me details of someone to make a complaint to. I told her I would not pay for the overcharge and wanted the owner's email and she then came back and said I did not have to pay for the over charging after all. The quality of work was very good, but I do not accept being over charged. In my experience, the billing system is not honest or transparent. I had repeatedly asked the office from the beginning for a run down on costs incurred but this was not a transparent process. I would definitely not recommend this company."

    "Had a leaking hot water cylinder that had created quite a mess one afternoon. Shut off the water and got McDermond Plumbing in the following day, plumber was prompt and replaced the cylinder in good time. Also fixed a small water leak with our toilet while he was here. No complaints about the job. Been several months since the replacement and all is working as it should, very happy."

    "I have repeatedly used this business over the last 10 years to the tune of probably around 20k worth of work. The work itself is fine and I have no complaints. The billing / efficiency is woeful. I live offshore and have repeatedly asked for invoicing via email. I have asked for this numerous times (in relation to every job attended, in advance, so they cannot claim to be unaware of this requirement before undertaking the work). This has been communicated both in writing and via telephone. Despite it being 2015, McDermond have been consistently been unable to this. When invoices are recieved, they are always paid promptly. My most recent experience has resulted in a 20 day legalesque payment demand despite the invoice being paid they day it was recieved. (electronically via bank account). Along with this I have now recieved a further invoice with no explanation as to what it was for, nor any attempt to contact me. This is a very typical experience with Mc Dermond. Plumbing fine, but major problems with their business systems. Cannot recommend them on this basis."

    "Fantastic service from Tony from the roofing dept. Set up an appointment to get a quote to check and fix my roof leak, and as it turned out, he was able to diagnose and fix the problem right on the spot. Very knowledgeable, explained what was very highly likely causing the leak after taking some roof tiles off. Rectified very promptly, friendly fellow, all done within an hour. And that was when I thought I needed to get the job booked in for another day. Oh - and unlike many trades people, he was actually EARLY for the appointment. I wish more trades people were as punctual, knowledgeable, friendly, and easy to deal with."

    "We are very disappointed at the plumbing service. We had problem with the hot water in the shower, the plumber came and identified the problem that our regulator is broken and quoted us $280 plus labour for replacing a new regulator. We only replaced the regulator a few months ago, therefore, it is still under warranty. We contacted the manufacturer, they brought their own plumber, it turned out that the regulator is perfectly fine. We called the office and asked to speak to the plumber as the manufacturer wants to establish why the plumber thinks the regulator is broken which seems very unusual, the office lady told us that the plumber will call us back at the end of the day, two days passed, no response. This is absolutely appalling! The problem is that we had two gas bottle, one is not turned on and the other bottle is running low. It looks to me that the plumber just try to make a profit by replacing our regulator which works perfectly fine. We also had a number of phone calls regarding the bill , my husband was quoted the price without mentioning about the GST, we are charged for GST on top of the bill. The office lady insists that my husband is lying and GST is definitely quoted. Since they took our credit card and we can not dispute this. Will definitely not recommend this business!"

    "Big job required - new storm water needed to be run to road approx. 44m. Ian came on site to get details to quote. Had to chase up quote about 3-4 times. Finally got quote, verbally accepted and had on site meeting within days with McDermond and other contractors. Agreed start date came and went and we could not make contact with anyone relating to the job. Approx 2-3 weeks after work should have commenced, sub-contractor came to site to look at job and starting saying the job would need to be re-quoted as job bigger than thought but Ian would call us to discuss. Ian never called us. Finally another week after that we cancelled job. Very poor service, communication is nil."

    "The reason for the delay is 1 We had to check that the owner was complying with his building and resource consent. 2 We found that when making enquiries with the council that he had not complied to his rescource consent and this was explained to him. 3 To comply with resource consent and before anyone could start work he had to have the road and foot path crossing approved by the council and a traffic management system was to be in place. 4 Also required to have the engineers connnection to the main sewer line approved and the exisiting sewer line cameraed. 5 A report given to the council on the existing condition of the sewer line. 6 For work to commence the resource consent must be complied with first before you can work on the building consent, otherwise the drain could not be certified by the council as stage 1 had not been completed. 7 The plans we had received to price this job were incomplete as there was an extra cesspit required that were not on the plans we had for pricing. 8 Until these matters were cleared away by the owner, we could not start the job as it would be illegal for us to do so. 9 This was the owner/head contractors problem to resolve prior to work starting. 10 We wish him all the best with his project as we like to have all our information correct and the job done to the specifications required. "

    Lorraine answered the call - and as promised rang me back within a few minutes for a time for Hugh to attend my job. They could be on the job within half an hour.

    Hugh turned up 5 minutes early and was personable, knowledgable, very experienced and with a sense of humour. Job was completed promptly and everything explained well.

    "Daniel turned up on time and did comprehensive diagnostics on the problem with my on demand water system. When he couldnt fix the unit (due to its age) he quoted for a new unit. Quote was a reasonably priced and work was done that day. While he waited for a new unit to be delivered he fixed the gas pressure on my hob (awesome!) and checked my central heating unit to make sure it was functioning properly. While I doubt anyone really wants to pay for a new gas unit I can once again fulfill the basic human needs of eating and being clean, a good outcome! My father was at my house while the work was done and couldnt speak highly enough about Daniel and his work. Im pleased to have a reliable plumber gasfitter to call on. Cheers"

    "I found McDermonds extremely professional. It was established that we had a gas leak. Everything possible was done to locate the leak, even had the gas detectors in but it couldn't be found. As we have a concrete floor the gas pipes were re-route up through the roof. They even vacuumed. Thank you for a job well done. Highly recommenced"

    "I have been impressed with the service,esp.with Donna,who was very helpful and considerate.I had sold my house and settleemnt was on 3rd and after explaining to her that the job needed to be looked at ASAP,she arranged for all in a very short time and at the end of the day the new owners and I both were very happy.

    Therefore we did noy have any hot water until the next day.

    "McDermond Plumbing & Gasfitting has exceptional service. The time between turning up on job from my initial phone call was very fast. When I did encounter a problem once the job was complete - I rang after hours and they had someone back to the house within half an hour. That was undeniably brilliant !
    Thanks for the great work, good people and for being so easy to deal with.

    "Job quoted with ease. Job booked. The first contractor used very expensive copper piping. He did not follow the brief of the job, leaving the pipes below the studs, so the ceiling could not be installed. The second fellow used the plastic (much cheaper) piping - worked very efficiently. They had to return to correct a misplaced byonette and the ceiling pipes. The compliance certificate was not received by owner or the Gas company. I have found a couple of the company staff very tricky to deal with."
