"Geoffrey is a great bloke, he had a dealing with another person where his business was temporarily "leased out" as such, hence the brief period of bad reviews.

He is back under control of his business and is a great person to deal with. Simple to the point bloke, happy to show you what's wrong and gives you good value for money!

A great bloke and will be happy to continue to use him into the distant future."

"DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Worst mechanic I have ever used. Charged $597.00 for a part with a RRP of $201.00. Didn't consult me before carrying out the work.
Really dodgy, avoid at all costs.

"Used a GroupOn voucher, which included a full service and WOF. I also wanted to replace my front 2 CV boot covers, knowing that this will be an additional cost. On the phone when booking in my car, he confirmed that the CV boot covers would be an additional cost, being $240 in total (for 2 replaced, plus labour). I agreed to this amount. After I dropped off my car, he rang me saying that there would be an additional $27 in total, for shipping costs of parts and cleaning time of the oil underneath my car. He also said eftpos was not available and it had to be cash only on the day. I wasn't impressed because one - I had budgeted for the agreed $240 cost, two - I had no transport and going to get $270 cash out in pouring rain was a big hassle and three - they could have easily told me prior to the day that it was only cash! Let alone tell me about potential additional costs so I could budget for it. When I finally went to pick up my car, I asked if he had done a WOF on my car to double check and he said he forgot, so I had to wait an extra 15 minutes, otherwise I wouldn't have received the WOF. Not overly impressed with the communication from this company."

"A week to two weeks ago my father had work done on his Holden @ MCR 37 Wairau Rd
The car is in mint condition, current WOF, brand new set of top of the line Pierrelle's, full set which were balanced & the alignment done.

I borrowed the Holden an notice that once on the motorway at 85 -90 kms/phr the steering and handling of the Holden was unsafe and shaking so bad my arms were shaking, managing the steering wheel with both hands at ten and two o'clock on the steering wheel was a full strength grip with almost locked arms to drive enabling keeping the car in control.

What truly is frustrating with the work done is that the tyres from the front and rear of the Holden had been rotated an this was not needed at all. Nether was it the work quoted and even needed.

Knowing this from being a tyre fitter and wheel alignment tech for Frank Allen many years ago.

If it's taken upon the staff whom we naturally assume to be competent in their jobs and decision making , they would re- balance and align the tyres as the process is needed on larger cars. Platinum amended poor job and unknown service required and not told of once collected.

"Very happy with the service from MCR. Called in to make an appointment to replace my spark plugs. Geoff was kind enough to start work on the spot for me so that I didn't have to walk 30 minutes to work and back. I was even charged half the amount I was quoted on the phone whereas most mechanics stick to the original quote even if it takes less time than quoted. Happy to say MCR is a mechanic I can trust sending Mum or the misses to without any worries. Thanks again Geoff."

"Finally a mechanic that does not take shortcuts!

Geoffrey is a proper mechanic that takes the time to make things right the first time. Looking at other responses this is probably Geoffrey's weakness - He does things properly and this does cost a little more than going a 1/2 job sufficient to get a "WOF".

I have used Geoffrey for many years and cannot recommend him and MCR automotive highly enough."

"Useless cutsomer service!!! I gave them ample time to sort out an issue realting to thier marketing and they didn\'t have the hindsight to put the customer first so I am placing bad feedback! BE WARNED AND READ BELOW!!!

Firtly I took my vehicle in some time ago to get the power steering fixed as it was very tight. I had put in new fluid myself with a friend around 3 weeks prior to bringing in the vehicle into MCR. I also asked them to check our exelerator as it was making funny noises but they neglected to even attempt that side of the job which was probably just down to bad memory. Anyway, the outcome was that the mechanic told me that power steering was drained and new fluid was put in and I was informed that this should fix the issue and that the \"Old fluid\" was useless. Steering felt 10% better for the first 2 days but back to being bad after that.

What REALLY gets me mad though is the Cowboy nature of the \"Vouchers\" that are sold by their marketing person Andrew. My wife bought some vouchers off him 2 years ago with things like a free WOF, cut price services and other deals. We used the vouchers as they were fine at the time BUT the next year roles around and my wife gets hit up while shopping in Birkenhead by Andrew, this time offering 3 vouchers for $20 BUT the vouchers have much higher prices and he does the hard sell to get some quick cash and tells my wife that if she doesn\'t want the vouchers then she can take to the mechanic and get her money back. This turns out to be total and utter LIES as when we apporach the mechanic multiple times to get the money back he says that it is not his issue and that he has nothing to do with marketing!!!! This guy is lying and promoting your business and you have nothing to do with it!!!

To cut a LONG LONG LONG story short I have been told on three occasions by Andrew that I will get refund either by either face to face meetings that never happen or by him putting money in our account but I am still out of pocket and with vouchers I wouldn\'t give to my worst enemy. I would love to see some other feedback from other people who have had issues with Andrew or MCR as people are being duped!

"Took car in for simple WOF and service (advertised special).
Failed WOF and service was more expensive as had done optional things like replace air filter without asking. Quoted $340 to fix for WOF.
Took to another garage who quoted $210 for same job.
They found it wasn\'t even broken, but had ordered the part and spent time on it so I had to pay them (fair enough).
Took back to MCR - who still insist there\'s a problem.
Went to another place for third opinion - no problem.
Went back to MCR - who basically said \"too bad no refund no WOF\".

Went to vehicle testing station, WOF passed.

Went back to MCR who wouldn\'t refund my extra expenditure for this non-existent problem, but bizarrely offered to replace the part for free saying the car was in highly dangerous condition (note, nobody else thought it needed that, so I said no and am continuing to pursue my costs).

As I was leaving Geoffrey was visibly upset, he then got in a clients car, accelerated up the driveway towards me, and \"tested the brakes\" for a wof, coming to an emergency stop short of hitting me by a couple of metres. Thank goodness that vehicle passed on the brake test. I think Geoffrey is a little unbalanced in his judgement on quite a few levels.

Here\'s my update 6 months after incident:

I just got a new WOF 6 months later, and there is still no problem with my ball joint. Whatever reason Geoffrey had for claiming it needed repair last time clearly was not related to any actual issue with my car. He still hasnt refunded me either so Im out of pocket for his WOF exam, plus part of the repair process at another garage until they realised there was nothing wrong there. My advice, stay away from MCR!!

Update after reading Geoff\'s dishonest reply:

Thanks for the reply Geoffrey, it really just confirms again how much of a Liar you are surrounding this issue. My car passed it\'s WOF 6 months later with no problem on any of the ball joints, I have the paper work to prove it. It needed some rust removed and a brake hose replaced, that was it. It didn\'t need the ball joint fixed then and it still doesn\'t, which was why I refused your free offer - which was probably just a ruse on your part to find \"other\" work that needed doing and do it on your on back and charge me like you did with the \"free\" wof and not so cheap service. Don\'t trust MCR! I\'ve had so many other mechanics look at the ball joint and say it\'s fine it\'s simply not funny.
    Geoffrey responded:
"(Service special of free W.O.F. with service) Service does include checking of the Air filter, we replace the Air filter if require, but can remove new Air filter and refund amount if customer does not want the filter (this customer wanted the filter) $35 cost of Air Filter. I Estimated $340 as my parts supplier quoted me on the complete lower arm not just the ball joint, re-quoted at $120, after this customer went for a second opinion, he came back upset and abusive, eventually he let me put his car over the hoist to be rechecked and showed the play in the lower outer ball joint L/H, as he explained he could not feel the play after trying to educate a non mechanically minded person too pickup the movement, he failed to see or feel the movement.(I was unable to refund a FREE W.O.F.) I was very concerned about the play in his suspension and as his partner was due to give birth and will have a very young baby in the car, I offered to replace this ball joint for FREE, I could not understand why he would not think of the safety of his Family when it was not going to cost him anything. This happened over six months ago, I checked his lasted W.O.F. inspection on line (W.O.F. inspector authorized only website) and he failed on the L/H lower outer ball joint I try to help were I can and our team do there job to a high standard There are always two sides to every story, people seam to vent anger easily but praise is often overlooked "
