    "I have a reseller account with OpenHost. Years ago the management of my clients was simple using the Plesk UI. Then, a couple of years ago, at the same time OpenHost went o WebCom (big US company) my hosting was integrated with other servers and the UI was completely changed. The OpenHost Control Panel and Plesk were substantially changed making the UI very difficult to navigate and many functions no longer available. I couldn't manage my accounts any more.
    So now after a couple of very frustrating years I'm leaving for a different hosting company. They use cPanel which contains all the functions I need to maintain multiple domains.

    "Probably impossible for Openhost to be any worse. The company has changed hands and changed all their platforms. Formally part of Webdrive, they were a respectable outfit, now nothing works. Nothing. You cannot reliably renew domains, update details etc. Support is next to useless."

    "Avoid. And be advised that Webdrive have merged Open Host. Same office address. Same operation.

    It all went well for so long. But I found more attractive technical stacks, so I decided to cancel my service after 12 years.

    They charge a month in advance, paid by DD without missing a single payment. When I emailed to cancel at the start of Feb, they said I had an invoice to pay and that I need to contact them when those are paid, only then could they cancel my account. First, effectively what they are saying here is "pay this invoice or we're going to create more". Which is absurd and I'm quite sure, illegal. You cannot refuse to cancel a service. Second (and most of my issue): It's just a terrible and lazy attitude to make customers jump through hoops (like watching their account for an outgoing Direct Debit for an outstanding bill) just to cancel a service. Third, the invoices were generated the day I cancelled. So I asked how that works in terms of whether they are actually still valid since they are a month in advance. Not a big deal if they don't refund partial months.

    Their notification that I need to get back in touch after paying the invoice was sent a few hours after my notice to cancel. I got no reply to three requests over four days asking how to proceed in light of the above. Which I believe is intentionally stalling given past response times. In the end, I never got a reply, I had to call and ask them to respond. I was told over the phone that they require 30 days notice of cancellation and that there would be one pro-rata invoice left to pay next month. Fine and not unusual. I paid the final full invoice manually and awaited the final pro-rata invoice.

    Fast forward a month and they send me a full invoice again. I email them to remind them that I am expecting a pro-rata invoice for only one-two days service. Seven days later, I get a one line response saying that the full month invoice is due with no other information. When I replied stating that their own staff member told me a pro-rata invoice would be issued and I wasn't prepared to pay a full month's cost for 2 days service on that basis, I got a rather curt reply telling me to read their terms and conditions and failure to pay would result in debt collection. A threat to someone who has paid on time, without fail, for 12 years. I replied asking for clarification on why a staff member would tell me a pro-rata invoice would apply and I'm being told something different via email, I have had no response after 12 days.

    The most ridiculous part: this invoice is a grand total of twenty dollars. That's how desperate their business is. Milking a full month's billing for technically 2 days of service while ignoring customers for a measly $20. Trivial enough for me to pay, but for most companies, none of the pain above would be worth the time. And certainly not worth the poor reputation costing them multiple times that. Nor is it worth my time writing this. But I decided that their general attitude, abysmal communication and simply ignoring a long-term customer merits costing them far more via warning others.

    Stay away from Web Drive/Open Host. Life is too short to deal with such frustratingly conflicting, disorganised and lazy people on the operations end. There's too much competition in the hosting market for such a poorly-managed company to survive longer than it has to.

    "Received an email saying they were migrating my website to another platform and would advise when complete. Over 2 days later and unable to login to site. Phoned support and eventually got through to be advised they had no idea how long I would be unable to access my website. Their response - "how long is a piece of string" - NOT HELPFUL. Poor communication. Poor support. Poor service!"

    "Openhost are the absolute worst, their servers are not setup correctly giving permission errors when in the plesk interface - and when calling their support they are condescending and unhelpful .. stay away for the sake of your sanity..
    I've worked with many hosting companies internationally and I have never encountered such rude support staff.

    "This company used to be ok. I don't know what's changed but avoid hosting with them. I have moved all my sites to another provider as the support is next to non existent. It can take days to get an answer and there is no support at all on weekends despite it saying there is on their website. Problems are recurring rather than being addressed and fixed. In my opinion they don't meet even the minimum requirements for what a hosting company should be."

    "I subscribed to OpenHost's 12 month Linux shared hosting plan earlier this year, to host my startup business's Drupal-based website.

    On 2 occasions I required OpenHost's support following the layout of my website becoming corrupted, as below:

    1. Website's layout was corrupted/non-readable/usable as of a Monday morning, despite my making no changes to this. However OpenHost's Drupal automatic update tool had run at the same time. OpenHost however denied responsibility and suggested that I look in Drupal support forums. I was perplexed as my site was vanilla/basic, I had encountered no issues over previous 2 years with hosting elsewhere (when I was living overseas), and the tool was provided by OpenHost, available as a main menu item. I asked for my hosting to be refreshed, and I had to reinstall everything from scratch.

    2. Shortly before my startup's launch I chose to implement Drupal's security update via manual invocation (I had disabled automatic updates) - AFTER making a backup first. The update script returned errors, which looked to also be outside the scope of my webhost container. Again the layout was corrupted. On restoring from backup it mostly looked ok, but key functions did not work (eg Drupal could not go into maintenance mode).

    This time support promised support; I asked if they did not have a resolution before Friday that my container could be again refreshed as needed urgently. I had no further reply and my site remained in an unusable state.

    I consequently submitted an early termination of my subscription to use a company with promised 4-hour service turnaround - Flexihost... (who don't reply at all! even to answer failure to register domain on subscription! or honour their 30 day money-back guarantee. Then I learnt they are now owned by OpenHost from nocowboys complaints:-( my review of them to follow....)

    On following recommendations from global review sites and Drupals for Dummies books I am now using US-based hosting - which have real-time webchat support and provided me with a 10-minute response time for 2nd level support, and reasonable pricing Their Softalicious Drupal updates also work. I would rather support a NZ-based company, but really would like to see good reviews of these!

    "I signed up for service from Flexihost years ago. I loved supporting a local business and Steve was brilliant and couldn't fault the service.

    Then came Openhost. Things started out acceptable and now have gotten to the point of being a bad joke.
    Email regularly stops working and frequently its impossible to login to email.

    Support when it comes is pretty good, but often it takes me following up support tickets via social media (its often quicker than the phone - longest I've had to wait on hold without talking to someone was just under 23 minutes which resulted in their system terminating the call and starting again) but even then I wouldn't consider support speedy.

    I run a lawns business, no databases, nothing tricky. Just a static website. Surely getting the basics of cpanel and email shouldn't be hard.

    Will be moving and won't look back.

    "Frequent outages. When things are working their support team is never available. DNS issues, uptime issues, billing issues. We will be moving our accounts after years of average service. They're having issues this weekend and the support team just hangs up on, or ignores inbound calls. Disgraceful."

    "Used to have awesome support but since they have grown their support standard has slipped/is slipping. Presumably they are being asked to do more with the same level of staff - its a common mistake.

    Hope they will avoid the next step of moving support offshore

    Still, their support rates up their with the best - its just much less than what it used to be.

    "I\'ve had to contact Openhost on several occasions lately with regards to several sites I\'d been setting up. It didn\'t seem to matter who I spoke to, I always received top customer service by staff who were very knowledgeable and helpful.

    Hopefully other companies will look at how Openhost do it and copy them!

Never had a problem or downtime other then the normal scheduled maintenance downtime for which I always get good warning and have never bothered me or my clients.     "I\'ve been using OpenHost for about 5 years now. I will still keep using them. I however have one gripe which they don\'t seem to want to address. When a hosting plan or domain is about to expire, they send out ONE email with a warning. They assume this email gets through. If the recipient has not seen the email because it maybe went to their SPAM folder, then it\'s just bad luck for them. OpenHost shut the website down. A followup phone call before shutting the site down would be nice (and professional). I have lost many clients due to this bad service of OpenHost. Other than that I would give then 10/10."

    "Having been a customer of Open Host for a number of years and having had to call customer support on various occasions I cannot stress highly enough just how good these guys are.

    As someone who lacks any basic website knowledge at all but who is full of \'good ideas\' I am always amazed at the patience, understanding and great help and advice I receive from the support team.

    I have had several opportunities to move my account to other \'Hosts\' but can honestly say that with the quality of service and support I receive.... this will never happen."
