    "Thanks so very much Ray, Dave, Alex and Adam. You provided such exceptional service - fully explaining what needed to be done, keeping us up to date via the phone and finishing at the time and price you'd expected.
    We are telling everyone who has a Subaru to come and see you. Thanks for fixing the catalytic converter - no problems now at all. Also the sway bar noise that has been driving us nuts and hadn't been noticed by any of the other mechanics we'd taken it to HAS GONE !!! Whoo hoo !!!

    We Rolf other professionals about it and asked them to look for the cause - At least 5 of them couldn't find it. Cheers Alex...,,

    Our experience with other issues has also been exceptional - fixing the air con and servicing. Very reasonable prices and great friendly professional service. Even recommendations to put my husband onto "Vikings" on Netflix ????????????.

    "A very late post, but I was travelling the south island with my classic car and got one bozo after another making things worse. Limped into Hartley ready to tear the face off any patronising grease monkey telling me they knew how to tune a MGB then leaving it like an asthmatic granny. But lo! She came out sweet as. I don't mind paying $ for quality jobs, It's cheaper in the long run and it was a nice change to have things outlined without the usual patronising women drivers seem to come across. Only regret I live miles away from these wizards. A real Wellington attraction if I do another road trip. Note: MGBs might be old cars but only let a MG specialist tinker with them. It requires British voodoo sometimes."

    "Had an issue with aftermarket brake pads on my subaru. My subaru didn\'t like the pads installed at a service Brought my wagon back in and Ray agreed to sort it after minimal discussion Just like that, Not a bother.     "I have been using Ray for a few years now, he was the only person that could manage to fix the problems with my classic vehicle. When i took in my newer vehicle he found problems that wern\'t picked up in a previous warrant check that were missed by VTNZ. As these were safety hazards they were fixed with no problems and without being charged the world. Give theses guys a budget and they will do their best and ring you with updates if the work costs more."

    "Ray has saved me thousands over the years, and he stopped me from being ripped off by a warranty company and a dealership which were hell bent on screwing me beacuse the vehical was a Range Rover (not current Rover dealership). I find Ray to be thorough, concentious, fair & realist in dealing with my toys and work hourses alike... I hate spending too much and I know there are coboys out there but Ray Hartley Motors is NOT one of them... go Ray & keep up the good work... Ian"

    "I have been taking my car to Ray Hartley Motors for the last 11 years and I have never had a problem. Their quotes are accurate (I did checked arround in the early years), they communicated with me as an intelligent woman and did not talk down to me as many garages had done, and also gave me warning of any issues that were coming due so I had a chance to budget for them. I highly recommend Ray and his team."

    "Got off to a good start with Ray. Ray had just purchased McLennans Motors where I used to take my car. He said he would honour a quote from McLennans for a cam belt replacement. He also recommended I get the radiator flushed at same time as would not take much longer considering they were tinkering with cam belt. So felt good that my car was in trustworthy hands.

    However, from that point on, I was disappointed.
    1. I was told my car would be fixed and ready by the end of the day, however they didn\'t finish work till the day after.

    2. On both days, I had to ring up to find out whether my car was ready for pick up - a real lack of communication on their part.

    3. They found an issue with the radiator top tank while flushing the radiator and proceeded to replace the top tank. However, they did this without contacting me so I was surprised to hear of extra work and cost at end.

    4. I asked them to check the transmission fluid to see if it needed replacing. (I had my car comprehensively serviced at McLennans a few months back, however was not certain if the transmission had been serviced at that time.) I then find out when going to pick up car up, that while they were doing work on the car, half the transmission fluid was spilt and therefore they had to change fluid (at my cost).

    End result of all of this:

    Extra $700 bill on top of original quote. Totally unexpected.

    Seems like a couple others have had issues with this company.

    I definitely will not go back to these guys or recommend them.

    "These guys ARE Cowboys ! I am amazed to find them on this website. I booked mycar in for a service and WOF. When I booked in I advised that the power steering and auto trans levels were low.They told me \"don\'t worry this was part of the service.\"
    This morning i have checked them and found them still to be below the required level.
    God only know what else has or hasn\'t been done

    "I\'d highly recommend these guys - they seem passionate about what they do and perform a superb job at a reasonable price. My car always runs well after a service and when I\'ve had mechanical problems they\'ve been fantastic at sorting them in a timely fashion - even on short notice.

    "Firstly, I know nothing about cars. I used this business for the first time and just wanted a WOF and service done. I was told the main belt was splitting and had to be replaced due to WOF rules. I authorised replacement, paid the $400 bill and picked up the car.

    The very next day I heard a distinctive noise coming from the new belt so took the car back. They worked on the car all day, rung to say they had to replace the \"tensioner\", and while doing that they noticed the \"water pump\" was weeping so that had to be replaced also and while they were doing that they noticed some \"bearing\" that was probably causing the noisy main belt, so that also had to be replaced.

    When I went to pick up the car at the end of the day, Ray himself couldn\'t understand why the noise was still there, so said it must be coming from the \"alternator\" and he would fix that (which I said no thanks). Obviously I went berserk at him so Ray gave me the new parts at \"cost\" and their labour for 50%. So the second bill was only another $680, I was clearly taken advantage of and probably my fault for not having the knowledge!!

    Anyway, Ray said he would also do the alternator at 50% as well if I got them to do the alternator in future. I got another professional opinion and the noise is clearly being caused by the belt makers name as it passes over the \"idle pulley\".

    This business did not know what they were doing, I feel about as ripped off as one can get and most certainly will not be using them again.

    By the way, my professional\'s opinion was that the parts that Ray replaced are not faulty. As far as the original belt goes - one will never know if this was split!!!!!

    "Excellent service - drop car in for warrent, service and for a couple of minor things to be fixed. Ray (I think) talked through what might need to be done and why. Very friendly and a clear communicator. At pick up there were no surprises on the work or the bill. Maybe not the cheapest, but still good value and an excellent service and convienent location as well. Will take our car back there for next service. "

    "These people are the best mechanics that i have ever used, they always get the car done when they say, the car always runs better when i get it back and has had all the work done properly. I have and old v8 and have told them that i dont want the car fixed, i want it made better and every time something breakes, i get a phone call with a price to make the problem go away and make the part better. When i was buying my last car Ray even organised someone in hamilton to do a pre inspection report on it for me, i live in wellington so this was much appreciated.

    Their prices are exactly the same as everyone else around the place.

    I recommend that you use Ray Hartley, but dont be silly if you are unsure ask, if you don't know what a distributor is ask, they will be only 2 happy to explain to you what is happening even show you on your car.

    The key to getting a job done right and how you want it is communication, so you as the customer need to play an active roll in this as well, ask questions, talk with the team there and then you will get a good job with no nasty supprises.
