    "I would NOT recommend this outfit. They are way more expensive than anyone else, are unable to itemise or rationalise their prices and Doug can't ever be reached as his messaging service is hopeless. Doug can be very moody if things don't go well. I terminated their contract before any work had begun because the experience was so unpleasant and I didn't believe the could competently complete the job."

    "I wouldn't recommend these guys. They were responding to an insurance claim issue and made several inaccurate comments on the invoice. When I tried to explain that I felt they were inaccurate comments and that the inaccuracies would impact my ability to claim via my insurance company I was yelled and screamed at by a manager and accused of fraud. They were also late and despite guaranteeing the work as on time or free this did not occur. Thankfully my insurance company is great - I've told them what's going on and they are sorting. I feel sorry for the people that work for this guy - he's a bully."

    "Called Southern out for a burst pipe in the middle of the night. During the Christmas period I wasn't expecting to get anyone but Doug was great. Fixed it then and there. Price was a bit steep but I expected it as I suspect I pulled him out of bed. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. "

    "Replaced a kitchen sink and mixer and on a separate job replaced a bathroom mixer. Call centre booked jobs and communicated efficiently when an emergency necessitated a reschedule. Greg the plumber was prompt and friendly. Not the cheapest price but they guarantee to do the job. After having numerous plumbers booked in and then not showing up it was refreshing to finally find someone to turn up!"

    "We booked this company to fix a loose kitchen tap. It was hard to reach and we only booked a plumber as we figured they would have the correct tool and would be able to do it easily.
    Issues were that the:
    *Tradesman turned up half an hour before the agreed time. I had left early to meet the tradesman but he rang as I was on my way home.
    *He was there for 30 minutes and yet we were charged $190 for a kitchen tap to be tightened.

    When I approached the company about the invoice I was advised that I was told the $190 price at the time of booking. This was not true at all. It was never mentioned. I was told the tradesman is booked for a 45 minute job. He spent 25 minutes in my house (I had arrived before he left). He never mentioned to me that he could spare another 15-20 minutes and hence was there anything else he could look at? We had a second (slightly) loose tap and I would have readily asked him to look at that if so. As a result given the receptionist never mentioned the $190 fee (I later was advised "This cost is quoted at the time of booking a job, and confirmed that it is OK to continue") nor the 45 minute time frame and the tradesman never mentioned anything either I would not recommend this plumbing company at all. In my opinion $190 to tighten a loose kitchen tap is extreme."

    "Initally we call as had used them a long time ago and they seemed fine, however what a mistake this time around. Had them look at the bosch hot water system and it wasn\'t working with hot water so Doug the plumber said the filter gets stuck and give a good old tap...it worked. Then preceeded to give me a quote to replace one for $3500 - overpriced given we had already installed a larger one on another property about a year ago for about $2500. I did get him to come and look at a leak which we had in our roof for a while and he came back to do some tests and got some bits to fix it. A few other plumbing jobs were done as well which was completed. However we continue getting leaks and I call to get him to re look at the work and also the hot water had failed again. Doug turned up when we didn\'t book him so rearranged for another time. I took time off from work and then when he didn\'t turn up I call the office and they said he wasn\'t available and that we didn\'t book him, even when Barbara the office witch told me he was confirmed at 1.00 pm . When I reminded her I spoke to her a few days before to confirm she said she hadn\'t talked to Doug so didn\'t book or call me back to cancel the appointment. Meanwhile billed for $980.00 for about 5 hours work, not sure how they got that number given that even if labour was $80 phi and they charged $90, what was the rest for I didn\'t pay given we need the leak fixed but also I was querying the bill and asked for it to be itemized. Next thing you know they turned up threatening for the bill to be paid one evening, and became abusive to my partner who didn\'t know what the hell was going on. The emails from barbara were rude and did not not offer a solution. i\'m reporting them to the commerce commission for false advertising (turn up or the job is free) and also to fair go for their appalling behavior and I should\'ve looked up this website to check before I used them again."

    "I called this company regarding a burst pipe beneath the floor.
    Will came out quite promptly and quickly found the problem. He advised me I should replace a 3m section of pipe behind the wall as it looked rusty and could go at any time. He also cleaned my spouting quickly.

    Very impressed by Wills work and would happily call again."

    "Never using SP again. They charged us $135 for a $25 dollar switch. Only found out how much the switch really cost 2 months later when it burned out and I had to replace it myself. When I went back to SP to see why I had been massively over charge, management I think Doug tried to justify the price by saying it included fitting and travel time to source the switch. Travel time to the supplier from my house round trip was 25min for us and fitting time only 5mins to open the cover and connect the terminals and switch it on. $110 for 30mins mostly driving, what a load of rubbish. The whole job cost us $315 because of the $180 call out standard charge which includes travel time and first 45mins to investigate the problem. It took 30min to find the problem and 2 days for SP to pick the switch up from supplier. Never going to use SP again."

    "These guys have done loads of job for us and they have been on time each time. They always gave a price before starting.

    We have always been charged the amount quoted. They gave us prices before starting in writing.

    They have a guarantee of "On time or its Free" which no other plumber provides.

    That takes some balls or very good systems.

    you can check out there web page. Cant remember what it is right now but I will leave it in another post later.

    They have been around for years. Probably do more jobs than the others combined so bound to get a few niggly customers. But over all would use them again. Problem is the other plumbers wont turn up when they say so what choice have you got. Wait round for ever or pay a few bucks more. Actually the last time we used them we got comparison prices and they were nearly the lowest. The highest price was probably a mistake though."

    "Got a HWC replaced. Plumber came fast and got the job done within the day they even had there own electrician. was very impressed allthrough they left a bit of mess on the carpet.

    Its funny reading a lot of comments where what they are complaining about has nothing to do with reliability or quality of work yet they put 0.

    I dont think this site does statistics very well.. "

    "Wow. Learn't our leason. Always plan ahead. We were in a bind and needed a gas fitter / plumber asap or we would not have a kitchen for 3 months. When we got the quote $2500 we were shocked. They came for about 8 to 10 hours in total. They cost more than the 3 jibbers that were there for a whole week and a half. They even sub-contracted it out. Work was good and proffesional, communicatipon a bit low but it was over christmas period. But for the money I would have expected solid gold fittings. Other quotes were in the $1500 but could not fit in with our time frame. Plan ahead so you don't get ripped of by people like this. (see review of southern plumming - thinks it the same people - same ph number)"

    "We had a gas hot water cylinder replaced. I was given a price of $3800. Not being DIY minded I agreed.
    The workmanship was ok, customer relations with the management very poor.
    They would not supply an itemised account but what I can say is that a gas cylinder retails for $1200. We live 30 ks away from Southern Plumbing and the serviceman was here for eight hours. I will let you do the maths. I will not be using them again.

    "Asked S.P to quote on installation of a Rinnai Hot Water system,not only was the quote $1000.oo more expensive than three other quotes recieved the person concerned also stated that some of the pipework under the house was dodgy and that the shower with the new system wouldnt work in both instances these assumptions turned out to be incorrect ! We would never use this company again and would advise others to be very carefull !"

    "I called Southern Plumbing to fix a blocked external kitchen drain and look at a second drain on the other side of my house. They arrived pretty much on time and called me to say they needed to dig up the path and replace a section of drain and the traps at both locations, and the cost would be approx.$2250. They did the work, did a very messy job of re-concreting and dumped the old concrete over my neighbour's fence.
    I called for an itemised breakdown of the job as the final bill was exactly $2250, to the cent. They simply made the labour rate change so that the bill matched the approx quote. I called them to remove the concrete they had dumped over the fence and they guy arrived the next day and was very sarcastic about having to do it at all. I received no apology. I called and left a message to say how disappointed I was and that we would never use them again, even for our entire kitched and bathroom refit (a job of several tens of thousands). I got a call back after eight weeks from the boss to apologise. Eight weeks!! I told him to forget it (after eight weeks I pretty much had) and I will not use them again. I'm not using them again right now as I search for a plumber to replace a water pipe.

    "I had a flued gas heater installed by Southern Plumbing in time for the arrival of a small baby into the household. The installation was expensive but done on time and relatively quickly. Then the pain began.

    We began to notice gas smells and contacted the company. They assured us that it had all been tested but they would test it when they came back to install the flue guard. Over time the smell got stronger and stronger such that we needed to keep windows open in the middle of winter to clear the smell. When they did eventually come and fix it they conceded they was a problem (a concession they later denied) and fixed it. It did improve although there were still problems. I tolerated it before finally stripping the heater down myself and performing a simple bubble test with water and detergent. There was still a leak. I called Southern and demanded they come and fix it. They said I would have to wait until Monday but I persisted and they eventually agreed to come. This time, the third go, they got it right. There was no apology for putting our health at risk or for the inconvenience caused. I would never consider using this company again."
