"Mt Eden Tyre and Mechanical are an absolutely fantastic team to deal with. They service and maintain a fleet of 13 vehicles for my plumbing company.
They are always a pleasure to deal with and are very accommodating, especially when we have breakdowns. They will usually be able to provide us with a loan vehicle even at short notice.

The pricing is fair and the service is fantastic.
I would recommend Neville and his team to anyone who would like hassle free mechanical service and repairs."

"I went in to have a service and get some new tyres on my car. I priced around and found them to give the best price. They gave me a good deal on some new tyres and explained why the air filter needed to be changed when it did. They thoroughly checked my car and gave me advice on things to keep an eye on as they were likely to wear out in the future. I was very happy with how quickly they got on to my vehicle and the price I paid for the amount of things they did to my car. I really appreciate the extra effort they went to to explain things to me and future things that needed attention to on my car since I'm not much of a car expert. I would highly recommend them."

"A very friendly bunch of guys.Great service and felt welcome. I was really happy to not be ripped off being a female and not knowing much about cars. I did some research and they offer great value for money. I was really impressed that they kept me updated with the proceedings. Liked the fact that I was able to use a courtesy car when needed too. Highly recommend to all."

"Didn\'t know these guys at all, did quite a lot of research and price comparisons and it was close to where I am working. They dropped me back at work and the tyres are great - do a load of road trips. Well worth it, considering I am always looking for really competent, and good at getting the job done, type of guys. Excellent rating and going back for more tyres! They also did a service that was pretty good on my budget, well worth saving up, and giving the work to these guys! "

"These guys are AMAZING!!! I have been using them for about 6 years. I don\'t know a lot about cars but they are always happy to help and explain things in terms I can understand, The prices they charge are very fare and competitive and the work is always top notch. They have no issue going beyond the call of duty to make sure the customer is happy and the job is complete and on time. Ask for Neville on Mt Eden Road!"

"Hi All, the team here have looked after me on a few occasions. I had an old 1993 Ford Telstar that needed a bunch of work done to it for a warrant, wheel bearings etc. I didnt have a lot of $$ so I needed a price first. I dropped the car off at appox 10AM they even dropped me back home. I had the pricing by 12 and the car was ready by 3pm. That is pretty damn good considering that they had a bunch of cars lined up for work. They even gave it a full service, etc and the price was very reasonable."

"My car overheated and stopped by Eden Park shortly after christmas just down the road from these guys and my house. So i got my car towed there and they shortly after (the same afternoon) told me my headgasket had blown. *Good Start*

I said ok, roughtly how much was i looking at for it to be fixed and they said that it was dependent on the head and if it was damaged/warpped. They told me that if there was no damage to it i would be looking at ~$1200ish. They then said they needed to send the head away to get pressure tested etc. and that was going to cost me $80 bucks. I said fine and they were going to be in touch with the results and a costing. They mentioned that as part of changing a head gasket they replaced the water pumps etc and my cam belt was getting slightly old so they said it would be relatively cheap to replace that too.... (this was before i had anything done to my car or i got told about the bill) . Let me point out at this point that they had a sign above their reception desk which said that if the price was more than 10% they would be in touch before doing any more work. I waited a week, and then got a phone call from them, My car would be ready tomorrow... uhhh when did i say to go ahead and get my car fixed? all i wanted was a price to get it done... oh and the price..$2100 thats ahhh slighty more than 10% for work which i hadn't authorised you to do. What really annoyed me was that because they had already gone ahead and done this work to my car i had no option but to pay for it. so i told them to stop work on my 1/2 finished car until i had come down.... so I went down there, and talked to them a bit, and they were unable to justify the extra expense. There was no damage to the head, and it was a relatively simple job to test and plane it, the head gasket itself did not have a huge hole in it or anything. I ended up paying $1700 to get it fixed (which was still over their 10% range in price) as i had no other option, they did not change anything except put my car back together as it was (all the same parts except the gasket itself. Oh and to top it off, a week after that my car stopped working, turns out the battery terminal was not tightened when they put it back into my car.. as you can tell, im not impressed by these people... I now visit Kelvin Armstrong Automotive Repairs in Avondale and have been very happy with them so far."

"I would like to paint a rather different picture to the other obviously disgruntled head gasket case/customer.

I amd my family haved used St Lukes Tyre and Mechanical in excess of 10 years to service our 2 family vehicles. These have ranged from a 1989 Mazda 323 to currently a 1997 Toyota Trueno and A 1996 Subaru Forester.

We are low mileage drivers and reglarly book a service based on the mileage requirements with WoF inspection as it obviously saves time. I drop the vehicle in first thing in the morning, walk the 1.5km to work and reverse the process in the afternnon. During the day SLT&M have standing instructions to ring me if anything untoward arises, which they do. All the issues (there have not bee many) have been sorted out and we have been highly satisfied over the last decade and a half with the service we have received from them. The level of service rose to new heights last week. My wife and I had travelled to Australia for two weeks and returned on the weekend to notice the warrant had expired on the Trueno which my wife was going to drive on the Tuesday to Hamilton. So we rang SLT&M on the Saturday am and left a message saying I would like to bring the Trueno in on the Tuesday morning after Labour weekend for a service and WoF. However a further complication struck on the Sunday - I ruptured my right Archilles tendon and am now totally unable to walk let alone drive. Best laid plans and all that. So the Subaru went to Hamilton, but we were still left with an unwarranted Trueno. A phone call on the Tuesday am to SLT&M solved the problem - they came all the way to our 30th floor inner City apartment, collected the car keys from a one legged man at our apartment door, negotiated the three floors of carparking to find the car and go passed associated security systems to take the car out to Sandringham to service and Wof. On completion the car was delivered back to the exact same space in the carpark, the car and security card along with the clear & fully itemised account, which DIDN\'T include an expected surcharge for pick up and delivery, were left with our apartment reception. Quality? Can\'t be faulted. Communication? Pretty good, we didn\'t receive our last Wof reminder but we had been away when it arrived so might of been a hiccup there. Older cars become less reliable, the best way to predict what is going to happen to them is to use the same mechanic for continuity. Not the case obviously above. SLT&M do have a high standard, but we moved to them because that is what we wanted. Having got burnt on a major breakdown on an extended holiday, we changed from our previous regular mechanic who had some questionable tactics but cheap prices. You pay peauts you get monkeys. I am well aware of the cost versus quality versus delivery triangle in my business. You can have two but not all three. I take my pick on Quality and service delivery anyday. Even if does cost a little extra. Communication is two wa, if a custome doesn\'t understand what is going on, then he needs to ask to confirm. Simple really. Pity more people don\'t do it, specially blokes who have a reputation for always knowing whats best. I have been marooned once more on a winter evening in the middle of the Kaingaroa Forest with two children than I care for. A non repeat of that experience is all I am seeking in going for quality. If you want Quality and Serice with an extra touch - go to St Lukes Tyre & Mechanical - it may pay a bigger dividend inthe end!"
