We've worked with Mark on several occasions - house buying, and all the things in between and he (and Stevie) are truly incredible. Always providing really helpful advice for short and long term considerations, visibly working so hard to get us the best deal and thinking about the easiest way to approach the house-buying process.     "We just had the best experience with Sloan, he was always so helpful and knowledgeable. We must have tried him over the 3 months we were looking for a house! Lots of 'just' missing out on tenders and even being the positive person on the end of the phone when we told him we missed out AGAIN. Then once we did find our new home he was there again going into bat for us with the bank and negotiating with them so we (loan plebs) could get great rates. Sloan walked us through a couple of options, and was there for us each step of the way. Things got hairy towards the end with final approvals but Sloan kept at it, fighting our cause right through. Straight off the bat, we found Bernie really easy to talk to, he kept things simple and straight forward.     "This serves to record my recent privilege to have engaged the professional services of Martin Duncan of the Home Loan Shop, Wellington as my Mortgage Broker and general adviser in the pursuit of acquiring my first home. I hardly know where to begin, or indeed how to end, my sincere praise and gratitude to this remarkable man and the Home Loan Shop as a brilliantly run business as a whole. Wandering into the potentially daunting and discouraging minefield of buying my first home, it seemed… an impossible pipe dream, but driven by circumstance and motivated by the worrisome consequences if I did not take the first step, I visited the Home Loan Shop. The name grabbed me, where better to shop for a home loan? After a warm welcome, I found myself almost instantly encouraged by the uplifting professional and friendly attitude of Martin. I had made poor choices over the last several years, choices that if made with better care and wisdom, would have put me in a much healthier fiscal situation. As it stood, my options looked rather gloomy indeed. Martin made no judgements about me when I explained my situation to him, instead he offered solutions, encouragement and inspired me to explore options I had not dared to consider. His naturally sincere and cheerful nature put me at ease whilst discussing my situation and within 5 minutes of talking together, I knew I was in the care of a genuinely interested, helpful, knowledgeable, wise and hugely experienced guide. By the time I left his office after that initial meeting, the minefield had been totally replaced by ladders of hope and possibility – I followed his excellent advice to the letter and great things began to happen. Throughout my consequent journey from that day forth, Martin helped encourage, advise and guide me through a myriad of mazes and I felt incredibly safe traversing the entire process with this positive and optimistic guide working diligently on my behalf, every step of the way. All the scary legal aspects were lifted from my shoulders and burdened by Martin and his team of similarly engaged contacts in the financial and solicitor fields. This included the insurance aspects, the access to my retirement funds, advising of grants available to me and offering suggestions I had not even thought of to help make my dream happen. And happen it did! I am extremely happy to say the entire process was executed in seamless fashion, I am a new homeowner and my sense of security is safely sealed under the roof of my house. MY house!!! I get excited every time I say it!! I thank Martin sincerely with the fullness of my happy heart for all the work he has done and the people he has engaged on my behalf for changing my life. Quite simply he is my hero, as he has enabled me to take a second shot at a life that was essentially bogged down in a stagnant mire. I recommend his services - and that of The Home Loan Shop in general - to anyone hoping for a brilliant professional service in securing property of their own. What would you expect to pay for a service such as this? The incredible fact is that personally, it cost me nothing!! The fees were all absorbed in the service…. And that was just part of the icing on what has evolved into a very sweet and moist cake indeed, made moist through my tears of joy and exhilaration!! Martin’s qualities of sincerity, honesty and amazing skills to achieve a great deal of excellent value filled me with confidence. In a world that all too often seems over represented by sharks and hungry wolves, it was very refreshing and an enormous relief to engage with a financial professional who was so personable and genuinely motivated to personally assist me in realising the impossible dream. When rough seas seemed to be brewing, Martin was a trusted and true sailor and somehow always steered the boat into calm waters… all the way to the sunny beach where I now find myself… gloriously bathing in the warmth and security of home ownership! I am obviously not the first client who has experienced such excellence here, nor I expect, will I be the last. I see The Home Loan Shop has won NZ Financial Services Business of The Year the past two years running… I would not be the least surprised should they win it a third successive year… in my opinion they thoroughly deserve it.     "My partner and I engaged with Mark Cook before we were in a position to buy a house. He talked through our options and was available for any questions we had. We then made contact when we were ready to start making offers and he made the entire process a lot less stressful for us. It was a long road to finally getting one with alot of bumps along the way, from deals gone bad to LVR lending changes and Earthquakes! Suffice to say Sloan and the team were amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I offered on several properties and Sloan was timely and efficient with arranging pre approved finance options. He would have me pre approved with two lenders within 24 to 48… hours. Once I finally closed a deal Sloan negotiated great rates and incentives. ALOT better then anything I had seen advertised.     "With changes to loan to value ratio guidelines imminent, and deadline for withdrawing my retirement savings for a deposit, I had only a few weeks left to buy something, anything, or risk never owning my own home. I'd just missed out on yet another house, and was quite despondent about my ability to buy in the Wellington market. As I was walking home that evening, the lights were on at the Home Loan Shop, so I went in to see if there was any hope that I might secure lending on an… apartment with very low equity. Sloan advised that it wasn't likely, but we'd give it a shot. Within hours I had pre-approval and knew that lending on an apartment would be on a case-by-case basis - they could still say no. Sloan pleaded my case - and when just a few days later I found an apartment that I loved, he worked hard to negotiate my lending with only 5% deposit, advised on lending structure, secured good interest rates, and helped ensure I was able to meet the banks due diligence conditions. Then came settlement day - the day after the first big quake in Welly. Settlement was delayed as all the lawyers were closed, my new apartment has sustained cosmetic damage, the movers were 3 hours late, the lifts in the building I was moving out of weren't working (83 steps up & down, one box at a time, not fun), and it was an all-around disaster. If moving is generally stressful - it's particularly stressful when you add a major earthquake to the mix. However, Sloan checked on me through the day to see how things were going (from home, as his office was closed too!). He genuinely cared and offered whatever assistance he could. Sloan kept me well informed, provided me with reality checks, and was genuinely interested in getting an outcome that was right for me. He provide great follow-up (such as checking the bank had paid the $$ he'd negotiated towards legal fees and checking in a few weeks after settlement to see how it was all going). It felt like the whole process was all about me. Highly recommended."

    "I dealt with Greg when I was having issues getting a loan on an investment property that myself and a business partner were looking at purchasing. I was pleasantly surprised that Greg was even willing to take us on given that we both have relatively complex affairs (together over 15 properties held in different structures), I was already talking to a couple of banks, and my biz partner was also newly self-employed further complicating things. Greg was prompt and gave us excellent advice… (which we took) and insight into some of the reasons we had struggled with one particular bank constantly. He was straight up when he couldn't get us a better deal in some areas than we could get ourselves, and, while eventually for the sake of expediency we sourced our own loan (no fault of Greg's), I would not hesitate to use Home Loan Shop again and refer my friends to them whenever possible."

I had less than 25% deposit and wanted a small apartment - the others didn\'t want to know me, but Martin said we could find a way from the outset. Martin provided us with all the alternatives and different loan institutions, helped us with our insurances and communicated with out lawyers till the deal went through.     "My partner and I struggled to get finance for our first home, despite both earning good incomes we didn\'t have much of a deposit or a \'savings history\'. We had found a house we liked but noone would lend us the full amount we needed. On a whim we walked into The Home Loan Shop and made an appointment to see Martin. He listened to our story and gave it to us straight. It wasn\'t going to be easy but if we really wanted the house he\'d make it happen. The next couple of weeks we were in daily… contact with Martin, finally we got there and managed to move in just before Christmas. After a fabulous year in our new house we heard from Martin again. He helped us refinance, now that we have some equity in the place and got us a great interest rate. He organised a valuer and a lawyer and kept us informed throughout the process. In an industry not known for its integrity and transparency Martin was a great find, we couldn\'t be happier with the service we recieved."

    "Laurie and Greg helped my fianc? and I get into our first house, and the service they have provided (and continue to provide) has been fantastic. We were very clueless about the purchasing process, and over several meetings and many phone calls Laurie has been able to help us make informed decisions the whole way through as well as getting us a brilliant mortgage package. Every time a new hurdle or question mark came up - whether or not it was related to the actual mortgage - we were on the… phone to Laurie. The final mortgage has saved us thousands, with not only a great rate but ALL low equity and other fees waived by the bank. I can't recommend these guys strongly enough, it's a free service so if you're even contemplating getting into the housing market give them a bell."
