    "When I went to Jim Wright Nissan to have my car done, they told me that my entire Steering colomn needs replacing, which will cost a wooping $1500!!!! I told them to hold off and went to Van Der Drift Motors and they got all the necessary work done for $300 to get my WOF.

    They have been my mechanic for 5 years now. Recently they have sold the business off.......Sad to see them go.......Been part of the family."

    "Had booked car in for new Cambelt. Was also told that both fan belts needed replacing and also breake disk rotors needed grinding. I do a lot of mileage so thought that all "required extra work" might be correct. However now 10,000kms and nine months down the track the timing is out in my car, so I dropped it into my new garage to be avised that the Cambelt was never correctly fitted as is one tooth out of sync and that I will need it fixed, which will result in a new Cambelt once again!! More $$$. At least I can rest assured the job will be done correctly this time as the new garage is MTA ASSURED and will guarantee their work!!!"

    "Myself, my wife and 3 month old daughter were in Hamilton when our radiator blew. We couldn't drive the 45km home so we pulled into the nearest Garage- Van Der Drift Motors!! We explained our predicament to a chap called Paul; needing to get the baby home, radiator burst, stuck in Hamilton etc. and asked if he could fix it and how much it would cost. He looked at us, glanced at the car, looked at the baby and told us it'd cost $800. We thought it was WAAAAY too steep, so parked round the corner at a friends house and caught the bus home. Next day, I phoned around, took the car to another garage and got the radiator fixed for $300. We felt they saw an opportunity to make some money from a young family that were stuck. Not recommended."

    "There seem to be diff spellings of the same business name - see laos feedback on Vanderdrift ...

    Own experience was good ... the work they did certainly wasn't cheap, but when a wheelbearing fitted by them failed they honoured the warranty and put it right same day."

    "Took ages, lied about scale of the job ('dropping the whole thing out' equated to unplugging 3 rubber hinges, total time, around 15s)

    Verbally quoted me one figure on a couple of jobs of around $200 - repaired one myself (for $0.00 & about 1.5 hours of my own time), and upon return, the cost of the other job suddenly quadrupled, being 'much worse than originally thought'...?
    Maybe a genuine cause & problem, with a genuine price-tag, or possibly a result of getting sucked into the Buddy Card scam. Either way, wont be back."

    "my radiator went in my car so took it to the nearest place to my house vander drift motors. first i was told it would be $125 for a second hand radiator so i was like sweet. got a mate to take my car in with $150 as i was working. called back and got told that it was cracked in three places and he was going to ring around. this is on Friday so i rang back and got told that there was no second hand ones in Hamilton that are for a Subaru legacy auto and he can get a new one for me. i was like ho much is that going to cost me he said $571 i did not have that sort of money right now i was like are you sure and he said it was the best option to do it that way. so i had to leave my car there as i was like i can not drive it. Monday came around and i got a call from the receptionist telling me that the bolts where seized and they had to replace them and now its going to cost you $605. by this time i had not given any money to them. and no permission to do any work on my car. i got a hold of another mechanic and asked him what he could do i needed my car as it was hard to get around. he said he could do it for a lot cheaper and have it done quicker.so i rang vander drift motors to say i was going to get my car as i can get some one else to do it. as i was talking to paul i asked if he had taken the old radiator out he said yes. i did not give him any permission to to this as i had not given them any money and they made it clear to me that he was not going to do any work to my car till he got the full amount.i said why did you do that he then started to yell at me down the phone saying that i said he could i had to hold the phone away from my ear! saying i will be paying for the freight for the new radiator and labor before i got my car. i said i never asked you to do any thing to my car he then kept yelling saying YES YOU DID!. i was not happy at this point. I\'m sure he did take the old radiator out as he new i would have to get it done there. i never got a courtesy car as they where all out. are you serious i work on the other side of town and was relying on people to get me places. at this point i had enough. a $125 job turned into a $571 job then $605 job. and then i get yelled at for doing something to my car without my permission. in the end by the time i payed for the freight and labor at vander drift then get a towing company to get my car to the other place to get my car done with the other mechanic it was going to cost around the same getting it done at vander drift. in the end i went in on Wednesday payed the full amount and got my car finally. i asked for my old radiator back and paul gave it to me without saying a word. i took the old radiator to the other place to see if the damage was that bad. turns out that it was just the top tank that had cracked and that is less then 200 to fix! there was no need for a new radiator. i will never be back to that place ever. and if you want to get ripped off and yelled at go there. but 6 days with out my car because he had taken the old radiator out so i could not take it is not right. i could have had it done on Monday with no hassles. so again do not go to this place if all you want is hassle over priced work that might not even need to be done to your car. he will rip you off if he can."

    "My car needed servicing and I went there for service. The receptionist, who was not well-behaved told me it cost 80 dollars. I told the guy called Paul that my car does pick speed when i drive uphill and asked him to fix him. He told me he changed things and gave me fat bill to pay. Later I checked my car, there was no improvement. I went again, and told him about the problem. He told me it could be the cause of Fuel Filter and told me it would cost $111 but when i went to pick up car, the receptionist asked 140 dollars. I reacted on it and she was justifying herself saying, \"Chandra I am not Phychic. It made me so sad and crazy, I talked to Paul but he started to tell me that it got expensive. Anyway I paid it and drove off. I found that the problem was still there and nothing was fixed. It was a big cheat. I am already cheated I hope you would be facing that!"

    "Charged 300% on parts, overcharged on lobour (charged double) had to take them to court to get my money back.
    I and my family and extended family and friends will never go back there what a pack of rip off arse holes.
    If you want to get ripped off then go to Vanderdrift thieves"
