"In April 2025, I contacted Solomon from West City Heating to instal rather uncommon in New Zealand a bionic fireplace.
He promptly responded by site visit to assess the job.
The job was scheduled and 2 weeks later the team arrived for the install. During preparation, the installers discovered the flue kit, we were provided by someone else, as part of the fireplace gear , was incorrect for our roof. With no fuss, they went to the shop, got another kit and install on the same day.
They left taking all the rubbish, leaving our leaving room tidy.
I can only say positive things about this business. They are responsive, realisable with customer satisfaction at heart. A true GEM among business we have been dealing with while building our house."

"Needed a replacement fireplace so headed to Dr Flue / West City Heating because that is what they do – fireplaces! "A fantastic and reasonably-priced job, rerouting our chimney flue, to make it go outside the house, instead of inside through the second floor. "We are so pleased with our new wood burner, supplied and installed by the amazing team at West City Heating. Solomon and his team dealt with revival of our old burner, dealing with council permits (never easy) and the installation of our new Masport wood burner. Installation day weather was not great but the guys hung in there and job done, all credit to them.

"We used this company when we took out our old woodburner and replaced it.
I cannot speak highly enough of the customer service from first enquiry to job completion.
Communication was excellent.
Solomon even came out and did a site visit to ensure we were getting the right woodburner, check the position etc, he was very knowledgeable about what was on offer.
The guys that turned up to take out the old one were slick, the guy who put the new one in likewise.
Would absolutely recommend this company"

"These guys were really easy to deal with. They kept working with us over a few months as we changed our mind and tried to figure out what fireplace would fit and that we liked. Solomon was really helpful the whole way through. Installation was done really efficiently and we have an awkward space with the double height room so it was not straightforward but it seemed to be for them. "Booked for chimney to be swept. Turned up on time and did the job, but took away the door on the fireplace for repairs. Week and a half ago - havent heard anything back and have contacted twice to find out what the situation is, with no response. Definitely won't be using again - and I guess I'm in the market for a replacement Kent wood burner fireplace door! (Also, minor points as the decor is far from luxurious, but the hearth now has a small chip in one of the bricks, and there is soot embedded in the carpet.)"

"Highly recommend West City Heating. We had a new fireplace installed and the experience with West City Heating was positive. I received friendly and knowledgeable service at the showroom, further communication was clear and prompt. Solomon came to see the site and the original amount quoted was reduced because the job was more straightforward than expected. The day of the install we couldn’t be home so the team let themselves in & locked up when they were done. "We had a wonderful experience with this company West City heating who installed our beautiful Woodsman fireplace. The whole process was so easy Solomon was so helpful and accommodating during the whole process from start to finish. Daz & Uele who came to install are most friendly and smiley guys so efficient nothing was too hard for them. We asked them to come back to install a bird mesh on top of our chimney as we have so many birds around at our property and they happily came two days later and installed it...then we came back from work that day and mesh was on the top of our chimney. So efficient and quick. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a good nice fireplace with a wonderful customer service.
We have tried our fireplace the first night after the installation and had windows a little bit open as paint smelt a little because fire was lit for the first time and house was so quickly warm & beautifully comfortable."

"The whole process from start to finish was amazingly easy! Mainly because the organising was done by Solomon - Phil the mason arrived and did a great job removing the existing fireplace; the Council consent was completed for me; the installation team arrived when they said they would. "Wow terrific business! These guys installed an ETHOS inset log burner into an existing brick chimney. This log burner draws combustion air down the inside of the chimney and then goes back up and out. It is about the same price as other models! There is no draft in the house, the flame burns so bright as if it was a propane flame and is ambient to view. The burner also uses much less wood than a log burner and there is no visible smoke in the combustion chamber nor out the stack to go into the neighbours. I swear this fireplace also puts out 5 times more heating. The team also referred me to a great fireplace masonry worker Phil who crafted the mantle into a master piece.
Get a quote of one of these fireplaces from the crew at doctor flue and ask for a copy of the finished photo from Ryan's fireplace conversion, it is the master piece of the entire $2M restoration at 47 Ngake st. 5 stars"

"I cannot recommend this business for the following reasons: we had to pay $140 in advance of the work being done. I queried the cost, as it was higher than average, as we have a single storey house. Solomon told me that they charge the higher amount and when the chimney sweep was completed, if it was straightforward, they would credit some of the charge back to us. The chimney sweeper was done in 10 minutes, and when I rang Solomon and asked him about the charge, he denied this. We will not use this business again."

"After paying my 80% deposit for a new fireplace installation it then took close to eight weeks before anyone came to instal it. I was however left with the fireplace sitting wrapped up in my lounge for this time. The people were delightful to talk to but did not have a grasp of work ethic, follow through or time management. It was only after I complained that they sent a sub contractor who finished the work."
