"Dreadful: damaged wall and refused to fix it; lost parts and denied losing them - and had the cheek to charge for them. Abusive and harrassing when calling for payment."
Peter Martin A1 Rangehood Installations responded:
" It\'s a bit of a surprise to get this sort of feedback Andrew. On Dec 11th -13 I received the following email from you regarding the installation of your in-wall Down Draft ( - installed Nov 20th - 13): We are happy with the rangehood. Hopefully my brother has been in touch about his install. Regarding the feedback you have posted in No More Cowboys: I am not sure what the damaged wall is about. When doing the installation you had a Chinese worker there doing building and jib installation. Unfortunately he couldn\'t speak English so couldn\'t communicate with him regarding the state of the (Down-Draft) wall which had two different surfaces. I had to remove a jack-stud to install the unit and wasn’t sure what was happening to the wall re replacing a bit of framing timber. I phoned you that evening and you said that they were going to jib over the existing jib to fix it. I said that that can\'t be done with regards to the fitting of the in-wall air-box. You said that you would have it done even thought I told you I was happy to return to do it if knew what the finish was going to be. Additionally, there was a power cable feeding a bathroom light on the other side of the wall that I had to move. As I am not an electrician I said you would need to get the electrician to re-fit it. You agreed to this. I returned when the kitchen was being installed, as requested by you and completed the installation of the Down Draft unit, ducting and external grill. As for \'losing parts\' this is not correct. You did supply the unit, ducting and grill plus the Parmco D640 (ref your email 1/11/13). You did not have the PR2 mounting plate which you asked me to supply. I mentioned the D560 vertical bend which you also did not have which you also asked me to supply. On invoicing you, the PR2 mounting plate cost was $73.75 +gst, the D560 cost was $32.00 +gst. (Total: $105.75 +gst). I might mention that I forgot to include the sundry material cost of $8.50 +gst in the Invoice. On Dec 30th I received the following Invoice adjustment from you: To: A1 Rangehoods Ltd. Invoice 379931 $568.39 Less D560 - which you lost $75.00 Damage .5 hr @ $100 $50.00_________________ Xmas adjustment $25.00 $125.00 $443.39 (Paid Dec 30th) Regarding the D560 I do not know why you decided to deduct $75.00 for it given that I only charged you $36.80 incl., and supplied it. I also do not know what the $50.00 deduction for damage is. Also not sure about the Xmas deduction you added in your Inv adjustment but did not include in your calculation. On Dec 12th I did email you a reminder re Invoice payment. On the 20th Dec you replied saying it had been paid the previous week. As it did not appear in my Bank Acc I replied for confirmation (for your benefit as well as mine in case you had mistakenly paid it to another Bank Acc number). There is no way that I was abusive and harassing when contacting you regarding the invoice. In fact the opposite occurred when you became abusive toward me in the one time that you responded to my phone msg. I may have missed one or two emails from you as I was having problems with my gmail address prior to Xmas and was unaware that you were out of the country at the time. Had you informed me of this I would have been happy to wait until the New Year re payment. I have been specialising in rangehood installations for the last twelve years and in that time this is the first instance in which I feel obliged to respond and say something about a client. I would suggest that if anybody is requiring a reference as to my work and integrity that they contact either: Kitchen Things, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, numerous kitchen makers, builders and electricians and/or refer to my web site: www.a1rangehoodinstallations.co.nz "
