100%"Angus and the team are exceptional builders. We had quite an invasive job requiring the floorboards be pulled up and new piles and framing put in for our new large, wooden slider. We felt comfortable with the team coming and going and they cleaned up as they went, or we arranged to do it ourselves at the end of the day. Angus is great with his communication and outlining what needs to be done and the associated costs. We also had a new front door and two corner windows prepped and put in. All… new internally exposed (double-glazed) rosewood joinery is not cheap and requires extreme care during installation. It turned out the front of our house needed a whole lot of remedial framing before placing the windows (due to wood rot and warping). Typical experience of renovating a 50-year-old home, once you start popping off cladding. The good thing was Emmanuel had predicted possible expenses and quoted high at the outset. I much prefer this than anyone underselling a job. We had actually also added a window to the corner job as it made more sense to do it in one go (this was also lucky as the whole corner needed reframing). In short, we came in on budget despite adding a whole second window and all the extra time it took to essentially rebuild the corner of the house. There were also moments when Angus showed his fine carpentry skills with the corner window sill and hand mortising and installing our door hardware. 100%"Emmanuel and his awesome team - Ryan, John and Ondrej - did a fabulous job of converting a mostly unused sunroom into a new bathroom & laundry. They also squared off and replaced the substrate of our kitchen floors.
We have a 1920's bungalow and so nothing is quite plumb or square and we encountered a few hiccups along the way, as well as some design and 'mind' changes by us, which caused overruns, Manny communicated each time there was a cost impact and did his upmost to find creative… and cost-effective solutions to ensure we didn't go too much over budget. The work was sometimes fiddly, and the boys showed a lot of patience with making things line up as much as possible.
Manny also managed most of the sub-trades - including painter, plumber and electrician and they were all extremely professional to work with, on time, tidy and on budget.
The real highlight of working with the Angus Builders team was the boys themselves. It was level 3 lockdown most of the time they were with us, so we were working from home. The boys worked hard, but had great banter along the way which made it a pleasure to have them arrive each day.
One thing that really stood out was that the team started the project in late July 2021 and a couple of weeks in, on the day the Government announced the level 4 lockdown, that had just ripped up all our kitchen flooring. The boys were so awesome - instead of rushing off to sort their own lives out, they used every spare bit of ply they could find to create enough of a floor for us to survive the long weeks of level 4! So appreciated at the time.
With lockdowns and delays in supplies, the project did take a lot longer than anyone thought, but we said farewell to the boys before Christmas 2021, We have received our Code of Compliance and are super happy with the results of Angus Builders work. 100%"We had a very positive experience with Emmanuel and Angus Builders. It was a fairly small job to adjusting a set of old warped French Doors to ensure a good windproof seal. There was good timely communication and discussion/suggestion of different ways of tackling the work - repair adjustment vs replacement, which allowed us to make the right choice. The execution was disrupted by a Level 4 lock down, but was done as soon as lock down was lifted. 100%"We engaged Emmanuel to do some major exterior renovations on our house as well as replacing a number of windows with double glazing and removing other ranch sliders and windows and reinstalling them up to current code. Having sought a number of quotes which were right out of the ballpark we had an instinctive trust in Emmanuel when we met him and felt confident enough in him to just do the job on a labour plus materials basis. It was an excellent decision.
Each week he would check in with… us to ensure we were happy with progress and outline the plan for the coming week. We didn't want to take any short cuts or ask him to do anything that wasn't up to code but Emmanuel is not a "slap it up and take the money" builder. He operates from a place of integrity and principle and we felt confident in him and Ondrej during the entire process.
His work was neat, precise and sometimes painstaking given the vagiaries of a 30+ year old house and we are pleased and relieved with the finished job.
