The tiler took a lot of care to make sure the finished job was up to standard, not easy on the slightly uneven walls of an old 1920's house. He also left the site clean and tidy after each… visit.

If only this level of service had continued once the job was started.

Firstly, John did not spend enough time checking the surfaces that were to be tiled, the result being that the job took a lot longer then anticipated and as such cost over twice as much as he had estimated.

This can be forgiven as it was a renovation and there are unknowns, however if he… spent longer onsite to begin with, he may have been more accurate in his pricing of the job, and the whole job would have been a lot smoother for both me and his tilers.

In addition once the main part of the job was mostly finished (the floor) we were then told by John we would need to wait 4 more weeks for the second part (the walls) to be started, as all his tilers were very busy. He then recommended another tiling company for the walls, due to his not being able to get to the job sooner.

I would not have given the job to BTS had i known that the total job would take over 2 months to finish. After all, John estimated for the entire job, and this is what i agreed to with him, but for one room to take 2 months to finish ? not acceptable.

Now with BTS unwilling to finish the job they estimated within a reasonable amount of time, i have to go through the whole process of finding a tiler to finish the job. Not very professional.

A note: BTS have a handful of tilers that work full time for them, and if they are all busy then they use contractors. We were given a contractor to begin with, while i had misgivings about the contractor from the beginning, I was told by John that he had 'complete confidence' in the contractor selected.

As the job progressed, the contractor turned up late every day he was scheduled to work, selectively answered questions about progress, was disrespectful and complained about most aspects of the job, and ultimately walked off halfway through, leaving myself to contact BTS to sort a replacement. This led to delays with completing the floor and effectively messed around myself, and also the other tradespeople we had booked to work on other aspects of the kitchen refit.

However, These replacement tilers were fantastic, and i believe they were actual employees of BTS. Its unfortunate John chose to ignore my misgivings regarding the contractor to begin with, as had he sent people that actually worked for him, the job would have been easier for everyone. Chris and Caleb, of BTS were both hard working and more importantly respectful of working in someones home.

It should be said that BTS did come to the party on the bill after i expressed our dismay at this contractors behaviour with a small discount on the work, but this was only through my suggestion and required negotiation, it certainly was not offered by BTS as a way of making things right.

I would not recommend using BTS Tiling, as they seem to not understand what it means to make something right when mistake after mistake occurs on a job. Sure, a small discount is a start, but really they should be doubling their efforts to finish the work, not doubling the costs and then palming off customers to other tiling companies to finish what they agreed to do because they are suddenly too busy, or a man down, or whatever.

Our tiler Dale did an incredible job of getting the floor and walls level for tiling, and was absolutely painstaking in his cutting and laying of the tile to ensure that it all came out immaculately. He also worked overtime and came in at the weekend to ensure the project came in on schedule (there… were delays with other areas of the project that had held up the timeline) because he knew how hard it was for us to be without a bathroom in the middle of winter.

As well as being a great tiler Dale was friendly, trustworthy and really good at communicating what was happening with the project and when he'd be coming. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend BTS and Dale to anybody looking for a good tiler."

I called BTS who arrived the same day to give me some honest feedback and direction and made it simple enough for me to understand with regards to where the problems lay and what could be done to resolve them.

BTS then had a tiler around the next morning. Pleasant, polite, conscientious… and did a great job of fixing problems, laying new tiles, sealing appropriately and cleaned up after themselves.

For the honesty, quality and professionalism, I would recommend BTS."
