"For the record, and for the benefit of other customers reading this review, we would like to give some context. We cleaned his chimney on 11 November 2020. This client did not contact us until 14th May 2021 to complain about the job done. We responded to his email the next day (15th May 2021) and he never got back to us. He then posted this review 2 months later. Below is our email response to him on the 15th May 2021: "Hi Paul, Ciaran has been cleaning chimneys for over 20 years and is an expert in his field. Whilst he is happy to come back and take a look, between Nov and now (almost 7 months) your chimney may have become blocked with a bird nest, or your weather cone and cowl may have collapsed, blocking smoke from exiting your flue. If your weather cone and cowl has collapsed and needs to be replaced the cost will be $280 + GST to replace it. If you have a blockage, caused by a birds nest the cost will be $160 + GST to unblock it. These are both only options if there's safe access and scaffolding isn't needed to reach the top of your flue safely. Our website clearly states that we clean chimneys from the bottom up, to reduce the risk of personal injury and to minimise the costs to our clients (a top down clean (when there's a blockage, or if can't be cleaned from the bottom up, is $160 + GST). When you contacted us in November did you have a problem with your fire smoking? If so, your weather cone and cowl may have a build up of creosote or soot, which can't be cleared from the bottom. Our clients would normally advise us of this problem at the time of booking. If this is the case we can charge you the cost of a top down clean, minus the $86 + GST that you have already paid. If your cowl is caked with creosote, it may need to be replaced (refer to previous cost). Finally, can I ask whether you're burning dry seasoned wood, as this could cause your fire to smoke. If you're in doubt, perhaps buy a box of dry pine kindling and see if this burns without smoking. Re: a site visit, Ciaran is booked up for the next 4 weeks but we've just had a cancellation so could squeeze you in this Friday (around middle of day) if that works for you? All the best, Kim" "
