When they started the job, they started it on the weekend on when I'm available that it didn't clash with my work schedule. The job was done at fast speed with high standard - like removing the old… tiles, waterproofing, tiling/grouting. If they have some mistakes, they correct it with high standard. In addition to that, he was always on the site to double check the job that needs to be done.

I had a bad experience with another tiling contractor and as a result I was extremely pedantic, and I would put myself into the extremely demanding category. I required Mark to use specific and often expensive products, and follow detailed tile layout plans that I had drawn up. My exact instructions were followed. The tilling products used were exactly what I asked for him to use,… and at the rates I had specified. Where design changes were suggested, the changes were discussed before work started, and in every situation improved the quality and aesthetics of the finished result.

Due to a misaligned temporary toilet fixture a concreted area to be waterproofed was damp. Rather than simply drying the area off with a towel, and short term fan drier as you may experience with a less scrupulous tradesperson, Mark made the pragmatic call to delay the start of work a number of days until water stopped seeping out of the gibboard and the area was in a suitably dry condition. Being the homeowner, I was at fault, and while this was obviously inconvenient, disruptive to his resourcing, and with an associated cost element, Mark chose to wait until the moisture conditions were within specifications to ensure the integrity of the waterproofing layer. Many tradesmen would legitimately demand compensation for the delay, but it didn’t affect the final invoice or cause overly negative feedback from him at all despite being an obviously huge impediment to the resourcing of his business.This is just one example of Mark's commitment to producing a quality job despite me being at fault.

We had a couple of heated discussions about the scope of work; however in each case the issues were resolved quickly and amicably. In-addition, it did not affect the outstanding quality of the workmanship exhibited throughout the bathroom at all. Despite my extremely demanding nature on this job Mark continued to look for ways to improve the appearance of his work. An example of this was changing the colour of silicon to match the adjoining surface colour, which is an item that I had failed to even consider.

Mark worked on the site for a number of days with his team of tilers. When his colleagues with limit English skills took over the responsibility for aspects of the tiling, he visited the jobsite every day to check in and make sure that everything was runnings smoothly, to ensure his very high quality standards were being maintained, offer suggestions to the tiling layout that improved the appearance of the tiling, and to ensure that I was happy with the work that had been completed. I found that I was still able to communicate with his colleagues with phone based translation apps, and I always had the option of ringing Mark in anycase. Their English skills were far better than my Vietnamese language skills anyway, and I found this approach to be a good compromise overall that didn’t cause any issues.

Mark's quote wasn’t the lowest, but it was in a similar ballpark as most of the other tilers that tendered for the work. While his price wasn’t the absolute lowest, it was by far the best value for money based on his performance, and the quality of the finished job. I consider the finished look to be absolutely top class and easily worth the quoted cost.

Mark is a high quality tradesperson that takes pride in the quality of his workmanship. Despite being a demanding and sometimes aggravating client, it did not affect his commitment to producing a quality product that he personally takes pride in.
