"Since 2008 we have had, at least, 10 different people from Urban Joinery come out and fix doors and windows to no avail. We paid a lot of money for shoddy materials. I understand there are. have been a few people in the Hutt Valley that have had no joy form this company and that are left with products that do not do their jobs. Stephen Lee owner of Urban Joinery closed up shop owing people a lot of money and High Performance Windows took over. Being stupid I presumed that they would have also taken over the warranty and fix the on-going issues- how I was wrong. Be very careful about the people who you deal with and also double check any company before you use them because you have no come back whatsoever."

"Nothing really changed since the previous reference (11 Nov 2009) was published... Pleasant talks, smiles, great pictures when UJ wants your money, then installers begin their job and you realize Jo was right: you find holes, damages and minor scratches in your house where you would not like and did not expect to find them, they install side panel that does not match the door (replaced later), you find water on your windowsill after heavy rain, etc. etc...... An only thing UJ does accurately is reminding you that you have to pay."

"In 2007, we had UJ fit windows at our property. It's now 2011 and I am updating my review. Perhaps that tells you something...

Their service was, initially, reasonable, but the quality of their workmanship let them down.

After the install and our first complaint they knocked some money off for paint chips and scratches, but there was still a huge snagging list, so we withheld 10%. They sent us an invoice every month for two years, which we ignored, sick of chasing them.

Eventually they came round. We paid, but were a little bitter about some of the 'fixes' (like hand touching up bare metal that should have been powdercoated). We feel we compromised significantly; our expectations of a reasonable job are clearly a lot higher than theirs. We had been quite clear about our standards and they said theirs was a quality product.

With another client they might have got away with their lack of attention to detail; I got the impression that they'd normally pass off what we got as OK.

Later, we got leaks aound the downstairs window (through from above). We had a builder out(Stephen Lee denied responsibility; the installers put a new door over an old flashing that was worn out, so technically not their fault, but we'd have appreciated them mentioning it - we'd have paid for a new one). The builder was shocked by the standard of the install, which he thought was sub-building code. Once again we entered into dialogue with Stephen. He said they didn't need to do it to code because it was a replacement, but we recapitulated and in the end he got the (now retired) installers back.

We discussed how the window had originally been installed true to the house rather than actually level (so it looked right) and agreed that they would put in the missing sill trays and then reinstall IN THE SAME PLACE. They didn't. The window now looks really crooked - unprompted, people have commented on it. Their excuse: there wasn't enough room to put it back properly because of the PEF rod (there is, and anyway, they could easily have cut it to size). Now Stephen Lee says it was because "on the side jambs, you have limited room". Despite the fact it was ok before?

This was before Xmas. We are STILL inlimbo-land with windows unfinished, a hole in the gib and with trim needing a repaint.

To be fair, We had excellent service from Tim who installed our front door, and recently from Rob and Caleb who came to install PEF rod which had been left out in 2007. But, I'm still shocked that we can be here in

2011 without being fully sorted. Yes, it's a pain for UJ as they aren't getting any more cash from us, but it doesn't do much for their reputation.
