We understand they are capable of wonderful results – they’ve done right by other customers according to their reviews — but that was not our experience in our home.
Mr. Hardgrave showed a great lack of attention to detail in planning and subfloor preparation inevitably leading to a visible flooring failure followed… by mold problems within 4 months of installation. We patiently communicated with them for nearly a year, troubleshooting and giving them many opportunities to make things right with us. We eventually learned our flooring problems were preventable had Flooring Design Kapiti followed the relevant NZ Standards and flooring manufacturer guidance, both of which they ignored in this installation. They stalled, denied responsibility and left us no other option than to make our case at Tribunal.
"The Disputes Tribunal ruled in our favor in late November 2019. In legal terms, under the Consumer Guarantees Act, the floor has been deemed “not fit for purpose”, a consequence of Flooring Design Kapiti lacking diligence during the pre-installation inspection. The legal proceedings took careful planning, outside expertise, lengthy deliberation and a lot of our personal and family time and money. Plus, while troubleshooting and then waiting for the legal proceedings to conclude, we’ve been unable to use our whole home since June 2018 (18 months to date!) and must still bring our flooring up to livable standards.
We sincerely hope Mr. Hardgrave chooses to meet standards and expectations in his future business dealings and that any future Kapiti Flooring Design customers don’t experience the stress and loss of family home time as we have.
Making mistakes is understandable. Shirking responsibility is not.
Buyer beware.
