The quality of work completed by contractor Matthew Grahame was of a good standard, but the process took way too long to complete and communication from his end regarding costs of work and materials could have been handled better given he was the… experienced professional in the relationship. To explain it properly, the job quotation was given to me on October 2016, I accepted the price and the conditions, we agreed in everything. I been told that in few weeks the job would start. The official start date was on the 6th February 2017; 4 months after the quotation was given. The initial quotation was given in a global price format on a task by task to be perform. It was clear, punctual and affordable. It was right for my budget. Then during the process I requested for more extra tasks to be perform. By the end, for those extra tasks I was given an invoice charging me those extras by an hourly rate and by hours. So, I was never been told of that hourly rate cost and neither of they would be perform by hours; otherwise I also want to control the amount of hours of each task. Regarding how he dare to costs us by hour when his absenteeism was very high. We have to ring him or texted him several times asking him how he was or when he comes to continue with his job. One of my texts was telling him that he was a real nightmare. A job that we think could be done in between 6 to 8 weeks; took more than 4 months. Some tasks were charged twice; in the first original quotation and again in the final invoice. Also, he dare to charge us $80.00 for half can of paint leftover, when I was charged initially $6,400.00 for the exterior painting of my residence included the paint. This final invoice was more expensive than the original quotation for less tasks to do. Some of the tasks were guttering, so now with this very rainy winter in some of those gutters the rain is going through worst than before. But, I would not ask to be them fix by this company, not at all. It's enough for me and my family. Why we do not ask for the cost or another quote for the tasks added during the process; because so far the communication with Matthew Grahame was fine and friendly and we were acting in a very good faith. We gave him a job, we trusted in him, we open our home doors to him and at the end it was a terrible shock for all of us the final cost of the job done in our family home. Our good faith was shattered by his actions. I and my husband have a quite limited command of English, but not my children. So, after we received the final invoice our middle child started to deal with him. Matthew Grahame accepted to reduce the final cost but among other comments, he said to my son that if we take him to the court he never lost a case and also he said that with the job done in our home the value of our property would increase. Those comments are horrible and irrelevant.Overall it was not a good experience for me personally. Thanks everyone. Take care."
