"This is the second time I have written a negative review regarding Terry Sharpin of NZ Roof Coatings. The first review he bullied me into removing it from this site as he wouldn't come to remedy the shoddy work he had done on our roof until I removed the review. Well I did remove it and he did send someone around who puts blobs of silicone all over the decramastic tile roof that he had supposedly repaired 2 years ago for $5380. He kept lying to us saying he would come around and fix the job,… then the tales of woe about his marriage breaking down, ending up in hospital etc. When the insurance company removed the ceilings in the two flood affected rooms we could see what the actual damage/issue was, the gable was rotten, ( Terry had just tacked some board over the top of it and painted it so we were none the wiser) and the flashing was disintegrated into rust particles. The original job stated that the flashing was replaced, well it clearly wasn't. We got some one else to repair the flashing and gable ( we were not trusting Terry to do the work )at our cost and Terry was going to return to paint the section of repaired roof. Well you can guess he has done a runner, phone is canceled and emails bounce back. He is a worthless piece of humanity who can't stand behind his workmanship, he charges a lot and doesn't perform. His warranty was laughable, actually unenforceable, how he was in business for so long beggars belief. So if anyone checks out this rating, please avoid him at all costs, get a professional to do the job."

"I paid a high deposit of 50% in Mid ApriI, to get my roof fixed for winter after it was damaged in a storm. I was told that work would commence immediately, once the money was deposited into his a/c.
After nearly 3 months of waiting I had to ditch him, all he had done was some waterblasting, that caused severe damage to my car, because he did not repair the damaged tiles and holes in my roof beforehand. That caused a significant amount of debris to come through the hole in my garage onto my… car bonnet that had to be completely replaced by a panel beater at a cost of a $400 insurance excess to me. If you don't plug the hole water comes through, I thought he would have learnt that at kindergarten.The only other work he did was to erect some scaffolding at my property which sat unused for over 3 weeks like an ugly ornament. He has lied that he has sealed my roof for the purpose of keeping my deposit, a roof cannot be "sealed" when it still has damage to it that has not been repaired. He had virtually made the roof worse than it was before I hired him, and he has cost me a further $400.00. I do not owe him for scaffolding that was never used, or for lies about sealing my roof, he owes me for the cost of the damage to my car he caused. Conveniently, he has kept the entire deposit of $3100.00 claiming that is what I owed him for the above carnage he caused to my roof and car.

He will not refund me my deposit or even a portion of it, He reeled me in with a bucket load of what turned out to be false promises and false starts. As a single female I believe that he saw me as an easy target for easy money. And for good measure just in case I came looking for him to repay what is rightfully mine, he has made threats and intimidated me, hoping to scare me off, and never hear from me again.

He threatened me that he had quote "rights to my money", and he was going to talk to his company's "QC", and get back to me which he never did. That's because a "QC" does not work for roofing companies, they work for convicted murderers such as Scott Watson, Mark Lundy, and David Tamihere.When I wanted him to use the scaffolding for it's intended purpose, he absurdly threatened me again that he would remove the scaffolding, from my property accompanied by 2 policemen. There is something seriously amiss about both of those threats. Policemen do not accompany dodgy roofing scammers to pick up their scaffolding from their clients properties. They have far more important things to do with their time. I think Terry must be "blessed' with a very vivid and overactive imagination.

It was then very clear that I had no choice but to terminate my contract with him, and there was no purpose in trying to discuss it, or reason with him.The work was supposed to have started in April it was by then July. He had lied to me from day one right the way through,he pushed me to the very back of the queue, then stole my deposit. When I terminated the contract he turned nasty and vindictive, despite having my money in his bank a/c earning my interest. My roof was never completed, by him and I have had to engage another company. to fix his mistakes and make my house watertight.

That was done in 48 hours, something that Terry's company did not do in 3 months of waiting, because I was continually at the bottom of his priority list.

I was fully informed of the whole process including the extra maintenance work all the way through, with my new roofing company. They turned up when they said they would, the entire process took them only 3 weeks to complete it to a very high standard that I am exceptionally happy with after the fiasco with Terry's company.

Unfortunately however because Terry has scammed me out of my deposit, I had to take out a bank loan because I then did not have the means to pay them without the return of my deposit.

Terry is directly responsible for that, including interest repayments on the loan.

As I see happened to other clients on this website, once I paid the deposit it was impossible to get hold of Terry. He would not answer my ph calls, text messages or emails, and he would come up with far fetched excuses such as my "my phone is not receiving incoming calls" or my phone/ texts weren't being received", as well as he can't do my roof because he "was in Aussie", or "can't work "severe storm coming" When there was 5 days in a row of sunny dry weather, that he promised me someone would start work on my roof, no one fronted, that was the last straw, and I cancelled the contract. I think at that stage, he had hardly any of his "crew" members left, and he left me hanging for 5 days without contact thereafter. It was simply not tolerable to persue any work with Terry after that.

I later found out that the scaffolding which he never used, and never removed, does not even belong to him, but he is still charging me for it anyway. It belongs to a very nice guy named Henri who came and picked it up as Terry would not dismantle it and return it to him. Whilst at my place Henri took me aside and told me that Terry was bad news, and he had a lot of "problems" and he did not want me to think he was a part of Terrys business failures, his business was completely his own, and after the episode at my place he would never work with, or be associated with Terry again. Furthermore he told me that if Terry owed me any money the only way to get it back was to go to court.

Clearly he had knowledge of Terry unlawfully taking other clients money in the past as well.

Another of Terry's crew named Vinnie surprisingly turned up at my house of his own free will to also tell me he would not be working for Terry again. He knew that Terry had messed me around and wanted to tell me in person, because he knew Terry was just going to leave me hanging around as usual, and he didn't like the way Terry had treated me.Things must have been pretty bad to induce him to do that for me. 'Terry had told me Vinnie was one of his "best workers". If that's the testimony of his "best worker", working for Terry must have been pretty grim. Terry told me that a worker named Willie, was going to update me.That never happened because he also parted company with Terry.

Terry has a lot of problems in his personal life that he is unable to separate from his business and he used that as a means to garner some form of sympathy for him as a means of distracting me away from doing what I had employed him to do. He told me his wife was divorcing him, his house had apparently burn't down, and his insurance co was refusing to pay him out.

I was his client, not a counsellor or a shoulder to cry on.

That takes the cake when he has previously not long ago,threatened me and had tried to intimidate me also.It is my view that he is a highly dysfunctional man running a highly dysfunctional business, and clearly from other recent testimony on this website he has a history of preying on, lone females, then stealing their money, and intimidating them into not challenging what he has done.

This is the sort of stuff that Fair Go loves...

When I terminated our contract with him, he suddenly turned on me and got nasty and vengeful. Not only did he have no intention of refunding my deposit, he then deliberately interfered with my insurance co, and fed them retaliatory and vindictive information that I had made false statements about my insurance claims for my car and roof. He has never met me, he has never been on my roof, he has never seen my car, and he had not known what I had written on my claim applications. He was slandering me and casting aspersions on my character and reputation, which can potentially harm any future claims I may make from my insurance co. Mud sticks and everyone knows how insurance companies try to wrestle their way out of insurance claims, without being fed defamatory information like that.

He had stolen my money, threatened me, and was now making defamatory statements about me to my insurance company.

I am nervous of what he will do next.

This man and his business needs to be avoided at all costs. He is a thief, vindictive and unpredictable if things don't go his way,as has been my unfortunate association with him that I now bitterly regret.

He also lied and said he was listed as a master painter, but when I checked they told me he wasn't.

Lastly another person involved with Terry, was a person named Luke who professed to be marketing / promoting Terry's company, and he did all of the initial negotiating with me.

This is to prevent you from being scammed.

He hounded me for a deposit sometimes calling me several times a day.

When I began to have problems from the outset with Terry, I rang and asked for his help, but was shocked when he told me he was another person who no longer worked for Terry.

That was a very short business connection, it appears that he was earning fast commission from Terry, by drumming up customers under false pretences, then doing a runner until the next unsuspecting client came along. I call that illegal "scamming", and he is accountable for those actions, and for being in collusion with Terry and his company for illicit monetary gain from me, by ripping off customers such as myself.I later found out that he works in the dental industry, and any association of dentists with roofing company's in my mind is highly suspicious of being for genuine reasons.

It would in my view be foolish for approaching this co for work, as I was, despite alarm bells ringing before I took them on, but if you did and you got Luke on the line, if I were you, I would hang up.Everything about this company is fake and in my experience there is nothing at all professional about how this business is run, and how you are treated as clients. In other words, don't go near them with a barge pole."

"Called Terry, prompt quote given. Request for 50% deposit asap so he could get on with job. Payment made. No action for several weeks, when I did call or email I was told "Our server down" "phone not working". Told work would be carried out following week, didn't happen. No updates given. I understand it is winter but there were many fine days. Not until I requested refund of my deposit did I hear from Terry, his phone must have been working ok as he responded within 30 sec.… Work was carried out to satisfactory level and discount offered for delay. Relieved until I asked for tax receipt to show purchaser of my house work completed with 10 year warrantee. Once again computer not working. Went to address listed in website and no office there. This lack of receipt held up settlement of my house and still not provided. Would not go near this company especially if you are a woman on her own. Disrespectful."

"We were impressed from the outset, when Henri was the first representative to arrive (of three companies we'd asked to provide a quote) and provide an on-site assessment. Price was of course important to us, but moreso was the timing and quality of the job to be done (repair, reseal and recolour our 10 year old concrete tile roof, following the house itself being painted). Henri explained that they had a gap in their schedule and they were able to get started on our roof promptly. So we gave… the go ahead, and are happy we did so. Colour choice was important to us, and Henri allowed us time to decide, giving us a sample spray of a colour we thought was right... turns out it was too dark for the rest of the house, so he then sprayed a second lighter sample, which was perfect. We gave the go ahead for the lighter colour (Grey Friars) and are very happy with our choice - it really finishes the house off. But the quality of workmanship is very good, and Henri kept us fully informed along the way. No looking back, and certainly no regrets. Our neighbours I think are lining up to be next!"

"NZ Roof Coatings recently restored our roof in less than ideal circumstances; the time frame was short and the access was difficult. Given the difficult conditions a few small mishaps occurred but they were always open to listening to our concerns and addressed all the issues to our satisfaction. Their communication, time keeping and dedication to getting the job right was excellent. Would use them again without hesitation. "

"Our roof was an old concrete tile roof, certainly needing a lift. Terry gave us a prompt quote. Communication regarding various aspects of job was excellent. Mike, the gentleman who did the job was friendly, helpful and hard working. Very pleased with finished work and workmanship, a credit to the company. "Had our roof recoated in March 2015. We have concrete tiles as the house is 40 years old. Contacted Terry for a quote & he arrived promptly, which I can't say for some other firms contacted. One firm phoned 2 months later to see if we still needed the work done. Terry's communication & knowledge of the work to be done was outstanding, & nothing was too much trouble. The work was completed promptly, & everything cleaned up at the end of the day. We gave them another job to be… done for an elderly neighbour & they also were very impressed by the workmanship. Thank you Terry & staff for the great job. We would not hesitate to recommend your firm to anyone else."

"We are in the process of selling our house soon and the roof being a Decramastic roof was in a very poor state and needing to be repaired. There was thick moss in places, dents in several tiles and it didn't look like much at all. Terry did by far the best appraisal of our roof, he was the only one of the three companies we looked at who actually got onto the roof and had a close look at it. We went with NZ Roofs coating as they were not only the best priced quote but the most… professional.

Willy was the service man who did the whole job from cleaning the roof, to the final coat of paint and it was our pleasure to have Willy work at our home. He explained in detail what he was doing and my wife and I were very impressed in his workmanship and especially the end result, the new roof has added so much value to the house and looks a million dollars.

I have no problem in rating NZ Roof Coatings 100%, they quite simply exceeded our expectations and I have no hesitation if you wish, to contact me by email and I can tell you in person. Highly recommend this company, they will look after you and do a fantastic job.

"We needed to get our roof repainted as the old coat was wearing down quite badly and although NZRC\'s quote wasn\'t the cheapest option for us, we still went with NZRC becuase of their reputation and quality of consultation from terry.The roof itself looks outstanding and work started the next morning of committing to the job and done within 4 days. We\'re absolutely stoked with the roof and would recommend NZRC to anyone in need of a roof restoration. "I got 3 quotes to refurbish my 1975 decramastic roof.
All were very close but NZ Roof Coating was chosen due to the how comfortable I felt with Terry on the phone following up after he had been around to inspect our roof. He picked up on a few things others had missed including some incorrectly nailed tiles that another company had recently installed.
The job was undertaken to a very high standard and Willie went the extra mile to ensure our roof was given a thorough once over leaving it… in a "like brand new" condition.

From phone calls to quote to completed work, my wife and I are very, very impressed!

"Our Decramastic roof was looking a little tired and had a couple of small leaks. Decided it was time to have it refurbished so went to market. Took 3 quotes and all were within 10% of each other. "house heading towards 30 years old. was starting to get pretty worried about the problems we were getting with the roof. called terry in for solution to the problem, i was stunned at how easy to deal with, what a trooper his tradesman mike is. he cleaned up all the damaged done by previous service people, laid down a good thick coating, looks like a brand new roof. best money i have spent in along time and i'm pretty hard to please. 100% thanks guys. would recommend your company… anytime."

"Terry was the first to respond to my emails to various companies regarding restoration or replacement of the roof on my house built in 1967. He came promptly and his quote was reasonable. He quickly answered any questions I had. Other companies either did not respond at all (Kowhai) or did not answer questions or responded long after the roof had been restored. I was not at home when the work was done but my neighbours were very impressed with how hard Willie worked on the roof and how well… he cleaned up any mess. Terry came around a few days later to check that everything was OK. I'm very pleased with the work done."

Terry was first to reply and visit within two days.Informed me of work to be carried out.
I was going to attempt myself, however after enquiring more found out his quote was very good.

"Terry came over same day to quote. We waited days/weeks for other companies. Terry explained the job and services very clearly. Communication was excellent. Henri was amazing. Our tile roof was in bad shape and now looks brand new. Henri left our house neat and tidy at the end of every day. The icing on the cake was Henri returning to wash the exterior of our house down on completion of the painting. We couldn't be happier with the standard of workmanship and service NZ Roof Coatings provided… us. Would happily recommend to anybody."

"Terry and Joe provided us with an exceptional, professional job on our decramastic roof. The tiles were extremely worn and rusted through in places but they have restored the roof to look like new. They have done everything they said they were going to do and Joe worked tirelessly through weekends to complete the job. I would strongly recomend them to anyone needing roof work done."

"We have a property that is approx 40 years old with a concrete tile roof. We have solar pool heating and the tubes had leaked over several years so the tiles under this had vertically no paint left on them and looked like sand.I got quotes to refurbish and restore our roof from three companies.To my surprise all quotes were very similar in price but not in what you were going to get in the finished job.
I chose NZ ROOF COATING for several reasons after meeting with Terry on site and going over… all the aspects of the job I could see that he knew exactly what he was talking about was totally professional in everything he did and I knew I could trust him totally and I would get the best quality finish and workmanship on this roof, and I was right.Every aspect of the job was discussed by Henri who did it all from start to finish, from water blasting, sterilizing, replacing tiles, mortar repairs on all ridges and hips and several coats of the BEST QUALITY Hi Build Colour Coat. The property was left clean and tidy through out the whole job.What I was very surprised with in this day and age when I offered Terry a Deposit or progress payment I was told its okay, pay me when the job is finished, well thats the kind of Quality & workmanship this company does you cant fault it, so you should not have any problems but if there are they will fix them.

I am an x builder and I am very fussy, there is only one way to do a job and that is do it once and do it right from the start there are no short cuts, I can say now I have a few trades people that I could pay without looking at the finished job and this company would be one of them, there are not many around like this which is a shame so as long as Terry is still leading the team I dont see anything changing. Keep up the good work, and look after Henri.

"When I contacted NZ Roof Coating - Terry Sharpin was very quick to come and quote and then to email the quote through to me. Then I had several questions which he answered very quickly and thoroughly. I thought it may be to good to be true but no, the guys did an amazing job on my roof - they were tidy and cleaned up and very professional. I would recommend NZ Roof Coating to anyone and would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

My experience with NZ Roof Coating was absolutely outstanding. The service provided was fantastic from the quote through to completion.
The worker, known as Henry is a friendly, happy chap. He would explain what process he was undertaking on that day. Before he departed he would tell me what was done and we would make arrangements for his next visit. Great service.

"When this job was done I was living in London and was having the exterior of my house painted. I decided to use NZRC to paint my roof instead of my house painters to ensure I used specialist Master Painters on an important part of the house. When I returned to NZ and moved into the house a few issues with the roof were pointed out to me and when I sent Terry some pictures and asked about them being covered under the master painter guarantee he referred me back to an email where he\'d… basically added a clause that meant there was no way for me to get him to rectify the problem.

I have an old roof, so I don\'t blame him adding this caveat but what he should have done is told me about the full condition of my roof before working on it - I\'ve now spent $2,000 on a job which was supposed to give my roof a longer life, but in reality this work is going to be ripped apart in a years time when I get a whole new roof. What a waste of money and a waste of time."

"I live in London but have a rental property in Auckland. I contacted Terry via email initially and then followed up on the phone. Our property had some leaks in the roof and we needed a roofing specialist to patch it up and make it waterproof before winter set in.
Terry was a little hard to get hold of at times but once we agreed to go ahead with the job and the weather permitted the work, the job was done suprisingly quickly and very professionally.
Im told (by the tenants and… family) that the roof looks excellent and his team went the extra mile to ensure the roof was completed to a very high level of workmanship. I wouldnt hesitate in recommending NZRC and I would definately use them again.

NZRC informed me they are registered Master Painters and they guarantee their work for 10 years."
