"We've been using Mayne for ~10 years to service both cars. They've now outsourced their WOF work to VTNZ, which I suspect is a (further) moneygrab via which they can quote their exorbitant wof remedy repairs with increased impunity.

I think this will lose them customers.

I've been in two minds about using them for a while now. For example a "service" that amounts to little more than an oil + filter change is $300 minimum.

Just because they're probably the biggest/most established local company in Onehunga, it shouldn't mean they can get away with this stuff."

"brought in my car for a wof safety recall on, it failed for several items and was told it cost any where from $1500 or more to get my car repaired so it will pass a wof. I took it to to VTNZ for a second opt and the onlyy failed me for 1 item . Just cause I am a female you trying to get more money off me and rip people off, I should of read the reviews before bring my car to your shop. I will not recommend your shop to any of my friends. I also got nzta to reinspected my car and they pick up that it should not of failed for 3 items.

"First time went to get a new tyre, quotes me $379 for tyre I could get for $137 elsewhere. No thanks. Then went in with a list of things I knew needed to be done because I will try everything twice just to be sure. Oil leak, new rotors, check CV joints, new shocks and warrant. Had my car for two bloody days. Forgot to change the rotors, couldn't find the oil leak, and charged me $1100 to put on new shocks and changed drive belt for warrant. Never again. Waste of my time and money. Back to my tried true Three Kings Automotive. Always honest and can fix anything. Won't be back... Ever."

"Wished I had read others feedbacks here before letting them worked on my car. Avoid this place if at all possible! Charged me $400 but the problem was not fixed, then said will cost a further $450 to replace another part when I took the car back and asked 'what's going on' . Also quoted $550 to replace one set of break pads(this is pure BS, previous replacement costed $150 for the same car). Very poor customer service too like others had experienced, I got shouted at twice by a guy called Jordan for no reason(and I was the customer), will not recommend!!"

i arrived there at 2pm To drop off my car for a warrent, they said it will only take 1 hr and will call me when its done, I was gone for 2 hours and then called to see what was going on, they told me they cant now do it till to tomorrow after further discusion they were able to do it. Ended up waiting till five and it failed, he showed me what it failed on some of the things i could agree on, but when i contested one problem which was play and in front left bearing and exsesive noise from the bearing, he lost it at me and started swearing a getting aggressive, I have worked on lots of cars myself and there was the smallest faint noise and no play in the bearing. It ended up him screaming and walking off. He would not serve and said "**** off and never come back" I did not steap down to his level and get angry, he was very rude, verbal bully. He gave me a look as if he wanted to hit me. I would never wanted anybody to ever expericence this and so i recomend no one should go there. I can agree that there were things wrong with the car and i will fix the ones that were wrong. Rude, crap service, scary and expensive place to go to which is why i gave it one star. STAY AWAY!!!!"

"Absolutely ****ing disgusted in the way we were treated and by the boss, the owner of your company. Our car was stolen recently and a lot of damage was done, we went to maynes to get a quote on what the costs of all the damage would be, maynes quoted $200 for a single tyre thinking we could save ourselves money we went else where to get the tyre but still keen on maynes to repair the rest of our damage. The boss told us that we should find somewhere else to go and get our car fixed because she was ****ty we wanted to save a little money. I have never been more disgusted and disappointed in my life! No one should deal with poor service"

"The most expensive service I've had, bill included $10 for "sundries ", $15 for freight though nothing on bill appears to have been needed to be brought in. Had passed my WOF the day before but was told I definitely needed one new tyre and would be advised to replace all- declined offer. Was looking for a new mechanic but will certainly not be returning here!"

"Be very very careful with this business run by two woman who give you Jaffas with an assassins smile. They lie and bull**** to get your business. In my case they tried to rip me off with a quote on tires. And snuck in GST on top of the quoted figure which should have been included. They lost a VW cap on my Touran and argued it wasn't them. In fact all exchanges with them have been negative... Go to PIT STOP across the road. They are honest reliable and well priced. DO NOT use Maine."

"I will not recommend this place to anyone.
My left passenger door handle had partly chipped off. I visited on a Sunday to confirm that I will be back the following Sunday (one week later) to have the part fixed. Quote $125.
Problem #1 - I called on Friday afternoon and was told that no part ordered. After I expressed disappointment, they picked up the part on Saturday and I was charged a courier fee for this. Courier fee was never mentioned in original quote, I can only assume I had to pick up their slack for this.

Problem #2 - On Sunday after fixing with no additional problems encountered, cost was $195! Luckily my boyfriend stood up for me and refused to pay so much extra compared to quote when there was no other problems. He ended up paying $144.

Problem #3! - The left car door handle now cannot lock and unlock after they fixed the door handle! Dealing with this team was a waste of time and money. My lock worked before visiting them. Now I have a door handle that cannot lock and unlock!.

Please advice if New Zealand has an agency that looks after victims of shoddy mechanics. I want my door handle fixed at no additional cost (we have already paid for this job!) but I do not trust Mayne automotive at all to fix this issue or anything else with my car.

The young staff members were condescending in their attitude. After all that my wof was still not completed. I'm not sure why they charge $45 for WoF. I'm very disappointed and will never use of r recommend their services."

"I used this mechanic as I heard they advertise on Life FM and as I am new to Auckland I was wanting a reasonable and trustworthy mechanic (assumed they were Christian) who wouldn't rip me off . DON'T use Mayne automotive. They give the impression that they are legit but my experience made a simple job of fixing a coil in my distributor into a huge drama and caused me a lot oh headaches and stress. I was quoted around $500.00 when another mechanic would do the job for $140.00 I told them I didn't want them to do the job and they proceeded to tell me it would be $100.00 for the assessment! I knew this was a simple 5 to 10 minute assessment so as you can imagine I saw red at the prospect of being charged this for a simple quote. I was told by other mechanics that most mechanics do free quotes and that you have every right to choose the mechanic you want. The whole experience has been a wake up call for me and I will be checking this website to check out all workshops in future. MAYNE AUTOMOTIVE ARE A RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!"

"My wife purchased a "Complete Auto Maintenance Certificate" voucher from a door to door sales person and when she mentioned it to me I was a little bit skeptical about it all. I dropped our car off for a service today and when we went to pick it up we were told we had to pay an extra $149.50 for oil and other parts. On the voucher it says we would save $255.00 on a gold service. So all up our gold service has cost over $400.00, and you'd think for a "GOLD" service you'd get the car vacuumed and air freshner sprayed, but no it didn't! It seems pretty overpriced to us!! On questioning Doreen about the extra cost she basically said I should have known better when buying these cards and said that I should be checking it after my wife has read it. Doreen came across very rude and then went on to say that in all her years working there she has never had a complaint and after looking on this website she has clearly lied to us! She also mentioned that other places in the area that do services may be cheaper but not as good a quality. Doreen also said the job would be done around 1-2pm and said she'd call me! However after not hearing from Doreen we went there at 2.40pm and the car was sitting there waiting for us. She didn't even bother ringing. After reading reviews for Midas Onehunga (where we usually go for a service and Mayne automotvies 'neighbour') they don't have any bad feedback, so as mentioned in earlier feedback they seem to bad mouth others. We do not recommend using Mayne Automotive to anyone."

"Very disappointing, fairly new to the area and I purchased a voucher from a very pushy sales man for Mayne automotive. I had purchased a similar type of card a couple of years back whilst living on the shore and found it fantastic. Unfortunately this gentleman led me to believe they were the same company which was false along with many other inaccurate details and blatant lies. I also found out after that he had spoken to my neighbours about me, the vehicle I had etc which was a complete breach of my privacy and rather concerning. He told me all the other workshops in the area were a rip of and no good, and I really felt bullied into buying this card. As a result I cancelled my card, still awaiting my refund but have no intention of going to Mayne as I feel that their tactics are pushy and misleading and I would warn people against buying from their marketing company Hannah. Bunch of scammers!"

At the last minute my friend couldnt pick me up after dropping my car off so someone from the garage drove me home so I didnt have to sit at the garage waiting - even arranged for some one to pick me up at the end of the day so I could collect my car.
Very good and clear communication at all times - explained everything that needed to be done. Have used in the past, am very happy I went back to thema nd will continue to use them in the future.

"Did work they didn\'t need to do and which they didn\'t even check with me first (cost over $150). Failed to do work they were supposed to do (tune up) and failed to communicate. They charged 50% more on the total bill than their quote ($500 versus over $700). They would tell me they would ring me with progress or cost updates but the calls never happened. I would have to constantly chase them once the time they said would call came and went several hours before. Complaints were met with disinterest and flippant responses"
    Doreen responded:
"what a scammer this bankrupt lawyer is. She bought her car in for a WOF we quoted her the work needed. She wanted to supply her own part which she never did. This is why the bill was more and we explained this nicely to her. We even had to put $10.00 petrol in her car to move it into the workshop. She paid with a cheque with the name \"deleted\" and a Remuera P.O.Box so we accepted it.She took the car and the next morning she cancelled the cheque and emailed through a nasty complaint and then posted the above feedback. We have since found on the finda web site under bobtoe user name many complaints this lady makes against all types of tradepeople and the one common thing she does is get the goods or services and then doesnt pay for them.If anyone needs any further information to stop this scammer please dont hesitate to get in touch. By getting together and sharing information about bad debtors we can STOP THEM. We were happy to take out the seatbelt part that we supplied if she still wanted to supply her own part and hence we would have reduced the bill accordingly. We told her we were okay to do this. Most people dont supply their own parts as there can be hold ups when they dont supply exactly the right part. This client paid with a cheque giving the appearance that all was well and it was not until the next day we found she had cancelled the cheque and emailed through a nasty complaint and then posted the above feedback. We are using a local debt collection agency as our own lawyer informed her that unless the debt was paid in full by the 10th Dec 2010 it would be placed in the hands of debt collection."

"I've used Mayne Automotive for 3 years for 2 different vehicles and have always received excellent service. The team are friendly and helpful, provide a courtesy car or a pick-up/drop-off service, and are honest and realistic about what needs to be done and when it is time to sell the car instead of fixing it. Work is done to a high standard and any problems are resolved rapidly. Communication is of a high standard. I recently had an urgent problem with a seatbelt fixture and it was done on the same day despite a busy workshop. Prices are reasonable and quality is high."
