    "My last experience with Midas Albany was very unpleasant. I took my Jeep in to have one of the rear brakes checked as I had suspected it had worn through the pads. They said they would look at it and call me back, which they did and said I needed new pads and rotors all round and gave me the price. I was half expecting that so gave them the go-ahead. In quick order they had the car ready to be picked up. I took it home, which I might add is over 50km's, and halfway home I noticed a bit of a smell from the brakes but being new I ignored it. By the time I got home the back brake that initially showed the problem was smoking significantly. I took it back to them and they checked it out. they said everything was fine but they suggested the car had been driven with the handbrake on, even implying it was my wife. I know this wasn't the case and argued with them about the implication but went on my way. A couple of day's later the back brake had another smoking incident and I noticed that both the rear brake discs had turn blue fromt he extreme heat, which I later confirmed with an IR thermometer that while the front brakes were about 80 degrees, the rear brakes on both sides were over 150 degrees - the max the thermometer could read. So back I went again, this time more arguing, even some swearing, but they didn't even want to have a look. At this point the car was due for an oil change so I took it to another mechanic and had them check the brakes too. Another $750 later, 2 new rotors, new pads, new cylinders, and a fluid flush, everything has been great. I do not recommend these guy's at all, I went there because of the reputation of the brand, but these guy's are far from capable to live up to this."

    "So midas really stuffed up. my girl friend took her car in to get a service first they tried to say she needed to replace her air filter that is was all clogged she passes the phone to me to talk to the guy i asked if he was sure it needed doing i let him continue talking he would show me when we pick the car up that it all blocked thats when i told him that i had replaced it 3 weeks before would have been very odd to block up in that time i left it there now when we picked the car up my girl friend said the car was not right was making a horrible noise when she accelerated so i have a look and find that they have left the air filter off completley i've called them up and they totally denied not putting it back on very poor service from them had to call the head office before we got any kind of apology we were lucky i picked up the filter not being on before any serious damage was done to the engine. needless to say watch out for them trying to charge you for work you dont need and that they dont try wreck your car needless to say i would avoid using them at all costs"

    "I took my 2006 Suzuki Swift in for a Midas 'Smart service' which is stated to cost $169.99. An additional $40.00 was charged for the use of synthetic oil which was mentioned at the counter after I had signed the contract form they use. This is poor service and rather sneaky.

    In addition to this the 'Smart Service' includes a vehicle inspection. The tail brake light on the right side is out and this was not picked up or mentioned by the Midas team. Also the car is having issues when idling and this also was not mentioned or picked up. For over $200 dollars I expect a better level of service and also a better invoice outlining exactly what was completed. Will not be returning or recommending Midas Albany."

    "Got recommended Robin from Midas from a friend of mind who had a great experience there.I took my car in for a premium service after robin explained all the different ones they have .Myself not being a mechanical person he made it really simple and easy for me to understand.It went in there about 10 in the morning and since they were not busy at this stage he said it may take a couple of hours unless they find something else which needs to get fixed.
    So i went down the road to have some late breakfast after about an hour Robin rang me to say the car was nearly done but needed 2 new tyres which i said ok but robin informed me it may take another hour cause they had to get another tyre for my car.Robin offered me a his own car to use for this time if i wanted to go somewhere. In the end the car was done in a good amount of time.I was well informed of progress and the use of his own car was a nice touch. Overall a good experience and one i will tell my friends about.Many thanks Robin and your Team.

    "On Tuesday 17th September 2013 searched the internet and decided that the Diesel Premium Service advertised at $269.95 would be appropriate. I called Midas Albany located at Saturn Place Albany to enquiry as to when my vehicle could be serviced. I was informed by the Manager that the car could be serviced today if I bought it down now. I did.
    The vehicle a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder was booked in by the manager (A gentleman of Indian descent). I informed him that I would like the Diesel Premium Service. He recorded the details of the vehicle; the mechanic Tony graciously gave me a lift back to my office. Later that afternoon I received a call from Tony informing me that the vehicle was ready and that additional to the service 7 litres of synthetic oils had been used and a special oil filter had been installed and the additional cost was $300.00, the oil being $150 and the oil filter being $150. I informed Tony that I would not be paying for this as I should have been contacted to confirm the extras. This was not part of my contract with Midas. Tony arrived at my office and we went back to the Midas garage. On the way Tony informed me that they had attended a seminar training workshop last week where they had been informed that later model cars require synthetic oils. On arrival I was presented with an invoice for $ 580.75. I stated that I was not prepared to pay for this as it was not what I had contacted for and I should have been advised of the additional charges. The Manager was not there. I stated that I was prepared to pay the service fee as contacted $269.95. At this time a second mechanic (another gentleman of Indian descent) arrived to process the invoice and EFTPOS payment. He stated that this was not the first time that this had happened with customers. (I known this as exactly the same thing happened last time with a previous vehicle I had serviced at Midas Albany.) At this time the manager called on the phone and wished to speak with me. He said that the vehicle required synthetic oils. He again reiterated the story of having just attended a training workshop. I stated fine, you should have told me that when I you checked the vehicle in; after all you are the mechanics. He then informed me that the oil filter was a manufacturer specific filter; again I stated fine you’re the mechanics you should have informed me when I checked the vehicle in or called to confirm after all you have my number. I informed him that I was not prepared to pay for the oil as he should have known that the vehicle required synthetic oils when it was checked in; I informed him that I was quite prepared to go to Fair Go; he waived the oil price and shortly after the fuel filter on the same basis. We negotiated a settlement price of $ 300. The second mechanic could not generate an invoice nor could he get the EPTPOS machine to work. I left without making a payment informing them that I would return on Wednesday. On Wednesday when I returned to make the payment and invoice was already made up. I settled by EFTPOS. I was informed by the 2nd mechanic that unless the Air Filter was removed or I decided to pay for it; Tony was going to have it deducted from his pay. Both Tony and the 2nd Mechanic confirmed that this was what they had been told by the manager. The manager again was not on site. I stated that this was not my problem and that Tony should take a personal grievance against the manager as an employee. The funny thing is I never had an air filter installed. I am deeply disturbed by this experience and the Shonkey Operation that Midas Albany Manager is running. How many other people have been ripped off by this man? I was not offered any credit for oil included in service nor was I given Wiper refills or a choice of an Engine Flush or Oil Stabiliser or Fuel additive as advertised. If I had not refused payment and threatened taking the story to Fair Go the Manager would not have discounted so deeply. As previously stated this is the second time that I have had an experience like this at Midas Albany. He is damaging your brand and the good work done by your other operators. I will certainly not being returning.

    "Hi Andrew, Further to my previous correspondence. Thank you for the opportunity to service your 2008 Nissan Navara. Our Diesel Premium Service is advertised on our menu board at $269.95. In the service we • REPLACE your oil (up to 5 litres standard oil and oil filter to a retail value of $25) 1 x new fuel filter to a retail value of $25.) • ADD your choice of an engine flush, oil stabiliser, or fuel additive • Top up fluids (brake, power steering, transmission, and antifreeze coolant. • Adjust Bakes • Complete a Vehicle inspection Highlighted in this service menu is Semi and Synthetic Oils and other special vehicle requirements will incur additional charges. Your Nissan Narvara vehicle takes 7 litres oil and the manufacturers recommended oil is 5W30 fully synthetic diesel oil. There is an additional cost for both the additional 2 litres of oil and the fully synthetic diesel oil. Your vehicle also required an oil and fuel filters both with a retail value in access of $25 each which also incurs an additional charges. During the vehicle inspection, my technician found your air filter to be exceptionally dirty and required replacement, which he did. The total addition cost of these charges were $310.05. When you were present with your invoice for $580.00, you were very surprised and informed my staff that you were not going to pay this amount because you were not informed of the additional cost. As you were not informed of the addition cost incurred of the additional oil, the synthetic oil and filter surcharges, excluding the cost of the air filter. My staff were new and had not advised you of these extra charges, even though you knew about the extra surcharges, I made an informed decision to reduce the value of the invoice to $300.00 as a measure of goodwill. However this amended invoice did not include the cost of the replacement air filter of $65.00. Please can you make payment for the air filter for $65.00, invoice attached. As you can see, I have taken in to consideration of the error in communication and I have taken full responsibility as any good business owner would and adjusted your invoice accordingly.
